Alexa glanced over at the man with a raised eyebrow interested in hearing his response. The man had a good humoured smile on, "It would be dangerous if it was too close, but no it isn't far."
Alexa glanced over at the man with a raised eyebrow interested in hearing his response. The man had a good humoured smile on, "It would be dangerous if it was too close, but no it isn't far."
Arsen eyed the man for a moment, then shrugged. He was the one who had alerted the Resistance anyway, and so he would have to be the one to make sure Alexa stayed safe.
He followed the man, who led them to a van with tinted windows, so it was hard to see inside. It was pretty tall, about the same size as an ambulance.
"Please, come in," he said.
Arsen shot Alexa a wary look, then entered.
Alexa matched Arsen's glance as she felt her ability hum once more. Her whole body was tesne, but she entered the van anyway since it promised some freedom to her.
It was dim inside the van, and there were several seats inside, along the walls.
The man closed the door. "There are wards here, so we can talk freely." He motioned for the two to sit, and sat himself. "Talk. Why did you call us?"
"Intially, or now?" Alexa asked back not letting her face show any trace of emotion. It was a genuine question since there reasoning for meeting up with the resistance had changed rapidly since they first made the request.
The man shrugged. "Either or. Preferably for right now, why you need us now." He hesitated for a moment. "If your reasoning isn't good enough, we may have to wipe your minds. For security reasons, of course."
"Right now, we're both wanted by the System for going against them," Alexa replied glancing over at Arsen. She wasn't sure how much she should share with the new guy, so she would keep it to a bare minimum unless Arsen wanted to give more.
The man chuckled. "You didn't go against them. No, what you did was much, much worse. You ran from them, as if you had something to hide, right before their very eyes. You also went to a bar that was known to be a hideout of the Resistance… although they don't have enough evidence to take it down." He snorted.
"It was more we stealthily retreated, but I suppose you have a point," Alexa replied feeling her adrenaline start to hum again. So the man knew exactly why they were here.
"So, tell me from your own lips… why did you run from the System?" He tilted his head curiously. "You had no reason to. After all, disobeying the System is dangerous."
Alexa glanced over at Arsen again. She knew they would be telling these guys eventually, but she didn't want to say it just yet. In case this was a trap you know?
Arsen wasn't sure if it was a good idea to respond, but he knew that if they didn't tell the Resistance, they would have nowhere else to go.
He started to speak… and then stopped. What if this was a trap? He glanced worriedly at Alexa, mirroring her expression.
Alexa saw Arsen's expression match her own. She looked back to the stranger and spoke slowly, for once in her life, treading her words carefully, "Reasons. How do we know we can trust you?"
The man smiled, although it wasn't a reassuring smile. "You don't really have a choice now, do you?"
"I suppose we don't," Alexa half quipped back. She was far too nervous and her adrenaline was now flooding her system once more.
The man smirked. "No. No you don't."
Arsen, his apprehension growing, pursed his lips. He should tell the guy. He glanced at Alexa and realized that, if he didn't want to be seen as a coward, he should talk instead leaving that all for her. "We… we saw lots of agents and thought they were at the bar to get us because we were at that bar." Which was mostly true.
Alexa nodded already hating the fact she was practically helpless in this new situation. But she knew it wouldn't last for long and instead nodded along just slightly, "Yep."
"And so you ran?" The man had been friendly before, but now he seemed mocking. "That was a dumb idea." He smirked. "Well, when you join us, I hope you don't make the same sorts of dumb mistakes."
"We won't," Alexa attempted to hold back the bite in her voice. She had always been bad at doing that, and this time was no different.
"I'll take you at that." He looked at them seriously. "Do you want to join us, or would you just like our help?"
Alexa already knew her answer, in fact she probably didn't have any other choice but to join them. If she went back to her familia, they would be in danger and probably get deported. She could probably visit or call to make sure they were okay and they knew she was okay, but other than that everything was to risky. She glanced over at Arsen knowing he could probably get out of this unscatched, lucky bastard, "I'll, I'll be joining you. Don't think I have any other choices."
Arsen shrugged. "I'll join too, I guess." He gave the tiniest of laughs. "Although I can't say that my sister will be too pleased about this." He sent a smirk at the man, trying to act like his usual confident self. "We're both in. Is there some sort of initiation, maybe?"
Alexa didn't know whether to b surprised or glad. At least one semi-familiar was coming with her, though who knew how long it would last.
The man smirked. "No, of course not. Those kinds of things easily attract the System's attention. No, all you need to do is submit to a Reader placing a seal in your mind, so that if you ever get caught and interrogated by the System, it will wipe your memories of us."
"That's… actually a really smart idea," Arsen said, impressed.
Alexa didn't like the idea of someone getting inside of their head, but she would do it, "Yeah… Real smart."
