"Drones, people, overgrown Barbie dolls, same thing," Arsen said, waving his hand dismissively. He pretended not to notice her disbelieving expression, and continued on, grabbing a box of cereal from the shelf.
"Drones, people, overgrown Barbie dolls, same thing," Arsen said, waving his hand dismissively. He pretended not to notice her disbelieving expression, and continued on, grabbing a box of cereal from the shelf.
"I would argue that they aren't," Alexa started watching him carefully. She honestly couldn't care less what they got, but at least he was picking decent food, "Drones are robots programmed by people and people are well, people."
"You say that like people are bad." Arsen sent her a smirk. "They're not. Earthlings are very innocent and pure and lovely. Obviously."
"Then we've met some very different 'Earthling'," Alexa retorted back. She crossed her arms as she looked at him, "And it shows based upon your naviety."
"Me? Naïve? How on earth did you guess?" Arsen glanced around for anyone suspiscious, and then sent her a grin. He grabbed a jug of milk from the giant fridges lining the walls and put it in the basket.
"Oh, I don't know, I think your class gave it away," Alexa jabbed back. It was a little harsher than she meant it to be, but she had caught him glancing around before smiling and it made her feel a little hurt. Though she knew it probably wasn't for bad reasons.
Arsen sniffed. "Wow. So rude. And I thought we were friends." He walked down the aisle to grab some eggs from a couple doors down. "or at least reluctant allies."
"Yes, and friends make fun of friends and their flaws. Or do you not do that?" Alexa teased a little catching up to him before grabbing something else next to the eggs.
"Not usually, no. If you must know, I have no real friends." Arsen snickered. It might sound like he wasn't happy about it, but really, he didn't mind. He had long ago grown accustomed to the fact that people only wanted to know him because of his wealth and power, not because they actually cared about him.
Alexa paused for a second after hearing that. She had kinda assumed that but had thought he had had at least one real friend at some point in his life. Her composure quickly reformed and she responded soon after, "Well I guess I'll just have to teach you won't I?"
"I guess you will, Ms. Law," Arsen responded, sending her a grin. It touched his heart that she would do this for him He was thankful that she said something like that, but she was most likely joking. Most of them did. But she's different, his brain told him. He ignored it.
"Yep! And rule one is that as long as you don't find it offending, all flaws are fair game to be to the butt of jokes," Alexa started figuring that if she was going to do this, she was going to start now and start well. She gave him a little bit of a shit-eating grin back, "So don't be afraid to bite back if I say something out of line, cause I certainly won't."
"This information surprises me so much," Arsen muttered, sending her a grin. "I never would have expected you to be that kind of person. You're too nice."
"It's just basic human decency," Alexa shrugged as her grin turned softer. She looked at their basket and then back at Arsen, "Think this is enough food for now?"
Glancing at the basket, Arsen shrugged. "Yeah, probably. I mean, we're only feeding two, so this is enough. We can always pick something else up later, if we need."
"I think we have everything, but you make a good point," Alexa nodded a little before making her way towards the check-out area, "You're paying right?"
"Of course I am. I wouldn't be a gentleman if I made you pay." Arsen followed her, basket on his arm. He paid with the card he had gotten that had made sure his account couldn't be traced, and then started out the door.
"I think there are a few more requirements to be a gentleman," Alexa snorted slightly at his comment, she couldn't exactly pay anyway as she didn't have a card that couldn't be traced like him. All she had was a bit of a cash. She stepped out the door slightly after him, "Anything else we need to do while we're out?"
Arsen glanced at her and grinned. "I know. I am, after all, the very picture of a gentleman." He shook his head and motioned to the car in the parking lot where they had parked. "Do you want coffee or something? Something fancy to drink before you're stuck with the homemade stuff?"
"Hey, that homemade stuff is just fine," Alexa was quick to retort a grin still on her face. She did end up shrugging though as she went to open up the backseat to put the groceries in, "I honestly don't care, if you want some of the fancy stuff, be my guest."
"No it's not. It's almost bad as the stuff at Starbucks," Arsen argued, sliding into the driver's side and pulling his keys from his pocket, starting the car. "Are you a monster?"
"No, I've just never had the money to splurge on something like fancy coffee," Alexa reminded him with a little tease in her voice. Though her words were entirely sincere as she entered the passenger side.
Arsen gasped, a hand to his chest. "Please," he said, in a mock-offended voice, "I don't splurge my money. I spend it wisely. And today's wise spending is groceries and some good coffee for my new politeness-teacher." He started the car and pulled out of the parking lot.
Alexa barked out a laugh at his last comment. She couldn't help herself okay? She glanced over at him a stupid grin on her face, "Politeness-teacher? Really? But fine, spend some of your money on educating me about the 'superior coffee."
"Yes, teacher. Is that my first homework assignment?" Arsen pitched his voice high up, making himself sound as much like a child as he could - although, with his fairly deep voice, it just sounded like a massive voice crack.
