“Ah-“ Arsen was in a panic for a moment, having forgotten about his turn. “Okay.” He played a card, although it wasn’t a very good one, not did it help him much.
“Ah-“ Arsen was in a panic for a moment, having forgotten about his turn. “Okay.” He played a card, although it wasn’t a very good one, not did it help him much.
Alexa drew her next card and ended up discarding it to reveal her ace. She managed to get one point that round, "Panicked a little?"
“Psh, no. I’m as cool as a cucumber.” Arsen grinned at her. “Duh. Why would you think that I panicked?” He made his move, another stupid, unlucky one, and sighed.
"Cause you just made two dumb rooms in a row, idiota," Alexa replied with a little laugh. She had a slight smirk on, "It looks like I win this round."
“No!” Arsen wailed, although he was smiling. “I shall never admit defeat! No one can beat the great me!”
"Then maybe you should focus," Alexa replied with a laugh as she began to sweep the cards together, "That way you can win the next round with a bit luck."
“You’re on. But I warn you, this is your last chance.” Arsen grinned at her.
(Do we want them to play the next game, or do a time skip to when they meet the rebellion?)
(I think it might be best to time skip.)
“And I’ll win again, the cards like me,” Alexa replied confidently.
(Alright. Do you want me to, then?)
(If you wouldn't mind.)
(Alright! Give me a bit!)
(Okay!)
Arsen was starting to have doubts about going to find the resistance, but there was no backing down now. Besides, they had to find a way to get Alexa to see her family before anything bad happened to them. Just in case the System, you know… yeah.
The two of them walked down the sidewalk. New York was beautiful at night, with all the lights shining around, although the stars weren't that visible, which saddened him.
He glanced at Alexa. "Are you ready for this?" He asked.
Alexa had mentally been preparing for the worst. The resistance rejected them and her and Arsen were stuck on the street, her family had been deported or worse killed, there were so many other things that could go wrong. She was lost in her mind numbly walking when Arsen's voice broke through, "Eh? Si. I mean, yeah. Yeah, I'm ready."
"Well, that's more than I can say for myself," Arsen said in a slightly shaky voice. He shook himself. "I hope this goes well. If not, well… we can always try to start over in a new country, although I'm not sure how well that would work, given that the System is everywhere."
"If this doesn't go well… Let's not think about it," Alexa replied after having her voice trail off after the first thought. She had to keep up her confidence or else she would probably end up freezing when she shouldn't, "We should be close to the meet up place right?"
"Yeah." Arsen motioned to a fountain, just a block away. There was a figure waiting there, in shadow, so their features were unknown. "That may be the person we're supposed to talk to."
"Shadowy figure standing all by themselves?" Alexa commented seeing the figure there. She was a little bit worried that he may not be the guy, but she didn't voice her concerns aloud, "Yeah that sounds like our guy."
"I hope so." Arsen led the way as he and Alexa approached the figure.
The figure, who seemed to be a man, turned to them, although his face was in shadow. "Alexa Law and Arsen Silversen, am I right?" His voice was throaty and hoarse.
"That's correct."
"That would be us," Alexa added on. Her powers were at her welling up so that they could be used at a moments notice if anything went south. She would rather be cautious It was more of an instinct than get caught,
"Right on time. A little early, even." The man stepped out of the shadows. He appeared about 50, with a neatly cut beard and hair. "Come this way. We should talk somewhere that's not so out in the open."
Alexa nodded studying his appearance. He didn't look like someone from the System, so she assumed that for now she could trust him. Her gaurd remained up though before following him hesitantly into the shadows with Arsen.
Arsen hesitated. "Are you from the… not the System? I just want to be sure."
"That is correct. I am not part of the System. I'm here to bring you to talk with the people you asked to a few days ago. It's good to be careful, though." The man chuckled.
Alexa let out a mental sigh of relief. At least he wasn't with the system, but that didn't mean this was safe. Not like they had any other option.
How is this guy not mad at me? Arsen wondered, faintly surprised. Energy tingled in his fingertips, and he was loathe to dismiss it. "Is this place we'll be talking far from here?" He asked.
