"What games do you know?" Alexa asked as she looked up at him.
"What games do you know?" Alexa asked as she looked up at him.
"A few," Arsen smirked. "Poker, Canadian Salad, Ten Penny, Go Fish, Old Maid, the game for depressed people… I know lots of them."
"Okay, how about golf?" Alexa asked with a smirk in return.
"…What? You mean the game with the tiny balls that when they hit you it feels like you've been clubbed over the head?"
"No," Alexa laughed and she dealt out four cards to each of them, "I'll show you how to play okay? It's a card game and don't look at your cards until I say so."
"Okay…" Arsen looked down at the backs of the cards she had handed him. "At least there's no pain involved… right?"
"Right…" Alexa responded moving her cards into a square formation. She looked over at his cards, "Okay so place your cards like I did. You can look at the two cards closest to you and only those two. The goal is to make pairs since getting a pair cancel out the cards point worth, Queens are high, Aces are low, and Kings are worth zero."
“What do you mean, get a pair?” Arsen asked, doing as she had instructed. “Get two of the same kind?”
"Exactly like that," Alexa nodded watching him. She looked at her own bottom two cards and whil she was holding them told him, "You can also rearranging your bottom two cards if it'll help you remember what they are."
“Okay…” Arsen looked down at his cards. He only half understood what she was saying, but he’d probably understand after she gave an example.
Alexa rearragned her cards putting the lower card on her left side and the higher on her right. She then nodded and looked at his cards before grabbing the top card of the deck. "Okay so this is how a turn goes. You have three options, the first is to take the card that's currently face up next to the deck, the second is the top card on the deck, and the third is to turn over one of your cards. Got that?"
“Got it,” Arsen confirmed. “So do I just do whatever I want of those three options? For my turn?”
"Yep," Alexa nodded with a little smile. She decided to take the top card of the deck after placing the old top card face next to the deck, "Since I took the top card, I have to replace one of my cards with this card."
"You have to?" Arsen studied the card she pulled. "What if it doesn't work with any of the others that you already have?"
"Well, I could discard it, but then I still have to turn over one of my cards," Alexa replied looking at the card. It matched one of the cards on the bottom so of course she was keeping it, "So instead I'll replace one of my top cards with this one."
“Oh, okay.” Arsen watched her. The game mostly made sense… mostly. He was confident that he would understand it soon. “Is it my turn when you lay the card, then?”
“Nope, it’s your turn when I discard,” Alexa corrected as she swiftly exchanges one of her top cards for the jack she had drawn. She discarded the two on top of the old card that was face up next to the pile, “Now it’s your turn.”
Arsen picked up the top card in the pile. “So I just try to match it, right?” He said, already pretty sure he knew the answer. He looked down at the cards he had, and then laid it down and discarded a low card.
“Yep,” Alexa nodded as she went to take her own turn grabbing the top card, “And if you can’t match cards go for low points.”
“So you want fewer points, not more?” Arsen asked.
“Yep, just like in actual golf,” Alexa laughed slightly as she ended up discarding the card she drew to reveal her jack on the bottom.
"Well, I always get the highest amount of points in golf, so this will be a piece of cake to lose." Arsen grinned and laid his card down.
Alexa laughed as she watched him go before taking her turn, "I hope so. Maybe you'll get better."
“I probably will. You know, because I’m so awesome and perfect.” Arsen grinned at her.
"You wish," Alexa replied managing to draw a king and replacing her unknown top card. She had a big grin on knowing her other unturned card was an ace, "Your move."
