“Yeah but punch you have to spill in order to make a mess!” Alex leaned back, feeling impressed with himself.
“Yeah but punch you have to spill in order to make a mess!” Alex leaned back, feeling impressed with himself.
"You can eat a s'more carefully and stay clean!" Autumn argued.
“wHO EATS A S’MORE CAREFULLY?” Alex roared, which surprisingly didn’t startle the taxi driver.
Autumn raised her hand slightly. "I do…?"
Alex scoffed. “You do? You’re telling me you carefully make sure the melted choco-marsh goo doesn’t get on your fingers?”
"Uh, yeah. Do you have a problem with that?" Autumn asked, crossing her arms.
Alex shook his head, securing the box and bag between his legs. “So odd.”
"What's odd about being clean?" Autumn huffed.
Alex shook his head again. “Odd. So odd.”
Autumn swatted at his leg. "Rude…"
Alex shook his head. “It’s just… mm…”
"What?" Autumn asked, exasperated.
Alex puckered his lips and shook his head. “Mmmnothing.”
Autumn glared at him and sat back in the seat with a huff. If he didn't want to tell her, that was fine. She just wouldn't talk for a while.
The cab was filled with uncomfortable, prickly silence. It was so uncomfortable the driver didn’t even attempt to make conversation.
Autumn placed her hands in her lap and looked out the window. They'd gone from joking around and being playful to icy cold in a very short amount of time…
Alex glanced out the front window, watching traffic idle. They’d come out in the middle of traffic.
Great.
Autumn sighed through her nose as she watched cars slowly go by. What was the big hold up? People needed to drive faster…
The green light flicked on but they didn’t move. It was so packed at that intersection no one could move.
So stupid. This whole thing was just so stupid… The traffic, the silence, the argument. Stupid.
Yellow. Red. The driver gave a slight sigh and relaxed into his seat. “Sorry ‘bout the hold up, this intersection probably has another accident.”
Instead of making conversation as Alex would, he just mumbled, “It’s fine.”
"Nothing you could do about it," Autumn murmured without turning her gaze.
Awkward, stifled silence filled the car like an elephant in a locker. It was a lot.
Autumn refused to break the silence. He'd offended her by talking about her eating the way he had. If he wanted to talk, he'd have to start.
Alex, too, wasn’t about to break the silence. He kept his mouth shut, leaving the car in frostiness. Perhaps (he doubted this but) she’d realize that he was just joking around.
