Arthur shook his head, "You gotta maintain control!" he said, sending a couple of Aura orbs at Soren.
Arthur shook his head, "You gotta maintain control!" he said, sending a couple of Aura orbs at Soren.
Soren had no way of defending himself from the oncoming orbs. He physically couldn't control the shadows to make a barrier for him.
I'm not going to shadow travel, that's a coward's way out.
He sat there, preparing to be hit by the orbs.
Arthur let the orbs veer away at the last second, hitting the ground on either side of Soren.
"You have to get better at maintaining a link to your magic" said Arthur firmly as he held out a hand to help Soren to his feet.
"I can't. I physically can't." He took Arthur's hand, pulling himself up. "I have no control over the shadows at nighttime. I can't use them as a weapon, as defense, I can't call them to me. That's just how it is."
Everyone has limitation to their powers, mine just happen to be so inconvenient..
"Well that's ironic" said Arthur, "I mean, Nighttime is when the shadows are more abundant"
"I can only shadow travel at night, and even then the connection is strained because I don't make it a habit." He rubbed his arm nervously. Great, now he definitely thinks I'm weak.
"Well you need to get better at using your powers," said Arthur thoughtfully, "And I think the first step is to stop fearing what could happen if you lose control"
He chuckled grimly. "That's easier said than done, pal. Just because you don't seem to have any limitations doesn't mean that the rest of us don't. For as long as anyone can remember, fearing what could happen if we lose control is what motivates people to not lose control. We all know the consequences, and the majority of the population fear that. Myself included."
Why am I telling him this, he doesn't care about this crap.
"Buddy," Arthur put a hand on his shoulder, "I have no control over my power."
Soren glanced away from him in embarrassment. Didn't see that curve ball, I really should learn not to assume anything about this guy..
"I can channel Chaos aura, but in truth I have no control" he said "And like I said before, I have to take this power stripping thing way more seriously than you do."
"And yet you don't give any reasoning. You have to take it seriously because apparently your life depends on your power or some other crap, but I have to take it seriously because I do not want to dishonor my family. If you die, that's another life gone. If I dishonor my family I still have to live knowing that my own family turned me away to the streets, and who is going to take in a freak like me?"
What am I doing? Why am I getting so upset about this..
"remember how I can shift into the form of a wolf?" asked Arthur,
"What's that got to do with anything?" he snapped, not exactly aware of the fact that, in that moment, he was becoming more like his demon than his human.
"I'm not a full human, I'm only half human, and Half Wolf." he explained, "My wolf half gives me magical powers, Not chaos, but that power is a part of my life force. If they try to take my magic, they'll drain away my wolf half, and If they do that they'll drain away my life force while they're at it. Not only will it kill me, but it'll cause agony for my younger twin siblings back home, and it'll erase me from existence."
Any anger that Soren had been feeling dissipated instantly, and he stood there with wide eyes.
The kid has siblings..?
You know his weakness.
Soren shook his head, dispelling the voice of his shadow. "I'm sorry." he mumbled. "I didn't realise."
"No way you could've" said Arthur, "Around here I'm one of a kind"
"You can say that again, I've never met anyone as complicated as you." Soren suddenly remembered something. "They lock all the doors at sunset… We're stuck out here."
Arthur smirked, "Fine by me!"
"What's that smirk for?" his heart thumped loudly against his chest.
He's either going to murder me or shift into a wolf, neither of which I want to happen.. How I wish I could read minds..
"I've been waiting for a chance to spend a night outside!" Said Arthur happily, "To be honest I'd even suggest running away from this stupid school, but we'd never make it to the border with our lives…"
Soren didn't know how to respond. His perception of Arthur was ever changing, and little things like that only confused him more.
Just who is Arthur?
He simply stared up at the moon and sighed heavily.
Arthur started looking around, "Well I guess here is as good a spot as any to camp out for the night"
Oh great… I'm actually stuck with him. I thought he was going to run off through the trees or something..
"Are you sleeping as you are or as a wolf?" That was the most important question at that present moment.
"Why does it matter?" asked Arthur, "I was gonna go catch us some food first, after that it depends on how cold it gets"
