In the country of Adlmyr, where humans coexist beside supernaturals, magic must be tamed. When an incident is caused from magic spiraling out of control, the powers are stripped from everyone involved. To teach people from a young age to harness their powers, specialist schools and universities were established in every major city, preparing them for the real world before they turned 20. But what would happen if some of the students, no matter how hard they tried, just couldn't seem to control their powers, and their deadline was quickly approaching?

(Interesting!! Except for the fact that Arthur does know how to control his abilities perfectly, although he hates their origins..)

@The-Magician group

(I think for him then it will be a case of things are happening around him that try to make him lose control even just once. Once is all it takes. Lets just see how it goes)

@The-Magician group

(Sure!)

Soren sat alone in his Umbrakinesis class, listening to the professor go over the same instructions on how to use his powers. The same words Soren had been told since fourth grade. For other students it was easy, they always knew how to make sure the shadows never hurt anyone. But none of them were half demon. No matter how many times he told the shadows to reside, they only seemed to grow and do damage.
"You have to be firm with your intent. Feel it in your body, don't just say it in your mind."
It didn't help that he had no control whatsoever over the shadows at night time, when they were everywhere. Daytime seemed to be the only time he could move them, even if it was in the wrong way. On the desk in front of Soren sat a glowing lamp that cast a small shadow onto the polished oak.
"Feel it, become one with the shadow."
Soren closed his eyes and focused on connecting with the dark patch. He felt nothing. For the next ten minutes he felt nothing, until a burst of frustration shot through him. He opened his eyes and in an instant the lamp was swallowed whole by the shadow. The professor sighed, dismissing him to lunch. As he left he could hear the professor mumbling under her breath.
"He has two years left, I don't think he can do this."
Soren shook his head, striding down the corridor to the food hall. He found a couple of his friend still waiting for him, knowing where he had been, and had already gotten some food for him. Glancing around the hall he saw that some of the other students were still hanging around. He reluctantly sat down with his friends but didn't touch the food, he didn't have the appetite.

(I know how Arthur can be made to panic and lose control!!)
Arthur sighed. He was stuck in a class about mystic magic, cause the government of the country had found him and put him here. They didn't have any other kids who had magic like his so he got stuck in all kinds of classes. I hate being in here he thought, trying to stay awake as the teacher droned on about runes and stuff. Soon he had asked the class to do something with their magic, when everyone else was finished, with varying degrees of success, the teacher decided to pick on him for sitting out. Arthur groaned and stood up, focusing his power to create a magic circle, and summon a bunch of flowers. Handing the flowers to the nearest girl he walked out of class as the bell rang. He really wanted to head to the forest, catch some fresh air. But instead he headed down to the food hall, heading for the main entrance without waiting to see if there was even anything appetizing on the menu.

Soren kept half of his attention on his friends, while the rest of his attention was discreetly tuning in to every other person in the room. He never really spoke to anyone who wasn't in his direct circle so it was interesting to observe others from the side, learning things about them that they wouldn't necessarily tell him - due to them not being friends. One person that caught his eye was a boy called Arthur. He looked like your typical teenager, but from the solemn glint in his eyes Soren knew the kid had been through some stuff.
It's none of my business, no one here is my business.
He drew his gaze from Arthur and began stabbing at his food with a fork, forcing it down his throat.

(You definitely know how to put it!)
Arthur sighed again, he didn't wanna be here, in fact he couldn't be happier to lose his powers, at least if that didn't mean losing his wolf side, and he knew that he couldn't risk that. Wandering around the cafeteria he couldn't help watching out the window, looking towards the forest. Suddenly he froze, old memories flooding over him, he carefully flushed them out, putting a blank in his mind so there was no room for memories. I need to figure out a way to control it before someone thinks it's my powers…
(also I just thought of a way for them to get together!!)

One of Soren's friends, Jessop, nudged him and looked over in Arthur's direction.
"How long has that weirdo been here, never seen him before."
"How would I know? I don't pay attention to people."
Jessop shrugged, rolling his eyes. Soren's fingertips brushed over Jessop's arm and suddenly the latter fell into a trance, staring at Soren.
"Don't roll your eyes at me, you know I don't like it."
Jessop slowly nodded and blinked. He was confused as to what was going on but everyone else kept mum about it. There were certain things like eye rolling that really annoyed Soren, so it shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone that he would retaliate. He just had to be careful as being caught using powers to assault someone was punishable. By what? No one ever said, and no one dared to find out. Soren was just lucky enough to never get caught using his powers for bad. He found himself looking at Arthur from the corner of his eye under his hair, suspicious of the way the boy froze when looking out of the window.
What an odd kid, just who is he?

Arthur shook his head furiously, turning around and sliding to sit underneath the window. Memories bombarded him, a red haired girl screaming for him to stop attacking a golden haired boy. That same boy, now a man, was demanding he let go of a small gold haired boy, who was screaming for help.
I have to stop having these memories! he thought as the surge subsided, I'll never be able to move on until I can stop having these surges! he clenched his fists in frustration. I'm never even gonna be able to look at their faces if I can't move on

@The-Magician group

A sigh escaped Soren's lips and he pushed his half finished plate away.
"I'm going for a walk outside." he stated loudly. Whether or not he was hinting to anyone was up for interpretation, but thankfully none of his friends offered to join him. As he proceeded to leave the hall, his Umbrakinesis professor and another professor he didn't recognised pulled him to the side and called for Arthur to join them.

Arthur looked up when he heard the professors and reluctantly got up to join them. "What now?" he asked, "It had better not be another class change."

@The-Magician group

"I think we should discuss this somewhere a little less open." Soren's professor muttered, beckoning for the two boys to follow them to an empty classroom. Once inside, the two professors looked at each other and nodded, before the other one spoke up.
"We have been having a little chat and we've decided that in order to try and help Soren master his power of Umbrakinesis, you, Arthur, are going to be his tutor."
Soren's eyes turned round. "Excuse me?!"

Deleted user

Arthur was just as shocked as Soren. "Hang on a sec," he said "I'm not even an Umbrakinetic. So why would I be chosen to be that kid's teacher??" and they know about my history with shadow magic! Why would they do this??

@The-Magician group

They paused for a moment. "We are basing this decision around your history, and we understand that you might not be comfortable with this, but we think it is in Soren's best interest that you help him."
"What if I don't want help?" Soren hissed, balling his hands into fists. "And why the hell would you do this to him if you know for a fact that he won't be happy with it?"
The teachers didn't know what to say, they only looked at Arthur, awaiting his response.

Arthur glared at the teachers for a long time, "Fine" he said, face palming a little, "But only because I know what you'll do to him if he can't control it," He gave the professors another long look. "But I do have one condition"

Deleted user

"We do it my way" said Arthur, "and you won't stop me" he said flatly and firmly.
(Where my characters come from it's normal to duel with magic as a way to train.)

@The-Magician group

(I see, interesting)

"Fine, just make sure you get the job done."
Soren stood there with his mouth agape in shock, he couldn't understand why the professors had done this, nor did he know why Arthur agreed with it. Soren kept quiet, part of him was suspicious of this change but then another part of him was relieved to have his professor off his back.

"When do you want us to start?" asked Arthur his tone still filled with annoyance.

@The-Magician group

"Now. He struggles with connecting with the shadows when he's calm. That is a major aspect you will need to-"
Soren quickly reached out to touch the two professors. "Do not decide what I do and don't do with my powers, leave me alone."
The two professors nodded silently, turning to walk in the opposite direction. Soren sighed, tucking the hair in front of his black eye behind his ear. "This could be interesting." his voice was emotionless.

"Right" said Arthur turning to eye Soren, "Listen buddy, I'll see what I can do to help you, but I'm only doing it so I can catch a break from this stupid school" he turned to head for the door. "Coming?" he asked, waiting for Soren to follow.

@The-Magician group

Soren followed him, mumbling with narrow eyes. "Don't 'buddy' me, pal."
He kept his fair distance behind Arthur, not really sure what to make of the situation. If things went wrong he could just make Arthur forget everything, or, in the worst case scenario, will the shadows to consume Arthur. But Soren never was the type of person to do that, despite his blood telling him he needed to kill. He shoved his hands into his pockets and kept quiet the rest of the way.

Arthur led Soren through the halls and to the courtyard, heading back around the school he made a beeline for the woods. They should know by now that I hate shadow magic! he thought quietly, Oh hush, it might be a good way for you to move on came a voice in the back of his head, Have you been reading my thoughts again?? Maybe Well stop it he felt the presence shrug then fade. Soon they came to a small clearing a little way in, Arthur took a quick look around then nodded, "Alright, so your name was Soren right?" he asked, "Why don't you show me what you can do."
