“Well, that’s all it is, trivial,” Bryce assured her with a smile. “C’mon, love, let me help you with this small thing.”
“Well, that’s all it is, trivial,” Bryce assured her with a smile. “C’mon, love, let me help you with this small thing.”
Joy sighed, giving in. She didn’t want to admit that she felt tired, and didn’t want to wash the dishes or put them away. She was glad Bryce offered to help.
“All right,” she said softly. “Thank you, Bryce. You’re the best.”
Bryce walked over and cupped her cheeks, pulling her into a short, gentle kiss. “Any time, beautiful. I’ll wash and you dry?”
Joy smiled bashfully, her cheeks turning pink.
“That works with me,”
(Skip? NOT IT)
(sigh Okay. Lol. To when?)
(sigh Okay. Lol. To when?)
(Idk. Sorry, I just saw this and was literally wondering why you weren’t responding lol.)
(Lol. Is fine. XD I was kinda wondering the same for you.
We could do another month or two?)
(🤣 All right, that’s all right for me! So she’s… seven months?)
(If were skipping two months, yes.)
Bryce sighed and wrapped his arms around Joy when he got home. She'd met him at the door after work and his classes. Since it was February (seven months after they'd found out she was expecting), he had actually started classes during the second semester that year. He'd wanted to just work so that he could help get some more money for them when the baby came, knowing that they'd need it.
"It's been a long day, beautiful," he murmured into her hair as he reached around her steadily-growing belly.
Joy knew that she needed to focus on her growing fetus, and that college wouldn’t help her condition, so she chose to drop out of college. She felt like a failure, but she wanted to make
things easier for both herself and Bryce.
“I’m glad you’re home,” she murmured, sighing softly. “There’s really not a lot to do at home. It’s just so terribly… bland when you’re not here.”
"You didn't have to drop out, you know. You could have just taken a break for the second semester," Bryce reminded her gently before realizing that probably wouldn't help. He winced a little when he realized that and sighed. "Sorry… Maybe they have some classes you can take, though. Not, like, full courses, but maybe just a class or two?"
“I don’t think I can focus on classes,” Joy winced. “I don’t want to complain, but this is hard. My back aches all the time. I can barely move. Besides, I’m not even good academically. What’s the point in wasting all the money when there’s not even a good chance I’ll make it through? At the same time, I don’t want to leave Ambrose at the daycare after he’s born. I want to spend every second with him, showering him with motherly love. Maybe once he grows older and starts going to school, I can get back into culinary, but… I don’t know. I’m sorry. I’m complaining again…”
She sighed, resting her head on his chest. He was working so hard for the both of them and she felt like she wasn’t appreciating him enough. She really felt useless, stuck at home, unable to work, unable to earn. What if Bryce started to hate her for her unproductiveness?
Bryce pulled back a little and cupped her cheeks in his hands. He looked into her eyes, his own reflecting a softness that he often had toward her, before he gently pressed their lips together.
"That's okay, babe. If that's what you want to do, then that's what you should do. I will always support you in your decisions, okay?" he murmured after pulling away and kissing her forehead.
“Please just don’t think of me as a burden,” her voice cracked. “I’m trying my hardest. I don’t want to be a burden. I want to be of use, but I’m limited and I just don’t know what to do…”
“Joy, you are never a burden,” Bryce said, pulling away to look in her eyes, a deep intensity in his own. “Please never think of yourself as such. I have no problem with any of this, okay? You are pregnant, and that is more than I could ever ask for, okay?”
Joy nodded, sighing softly and resting her head on his chest, her small hands fisting his shirt.
"Okay…" she said quietly, warmth flooding through her. "I prepared food. It's not what I would usually prepare, but… sandwiches were all I could make today."
“That’s okay, beautiful. I never expect much, and each time you make so much more than I could ever hope for. I love you so much, Joy,” Bryce murmured softly.
Joy smiled. He always knew what to say to cheer her up.
"I love you, too, Bryce," she mumbled, wrapping her arms around him as best as her growing belly could allow it. "So, so much."
Bryce sighed and kissed her forehead before pulling away gently. “How about we go eat those sandwiches now, hm? I’m hungry, and they sound like they’re delicious.”
“Sounds like a plan,” Joy murmured. “I can’t wait until this pregnancy is over… my hormones are all over the place.”
“I’m sure it’ll get better soon. Just think, babe… Two more months, and you’ll have that baby in your arms instead of your stomach,” Bryce mused softly, reaching down to gently brush his hand across her belly.
“And three more months until we’re married,” Joy murmured with a soft smile on her face. “You make me so happy, Bryce. Every single day. At first I used to look forward to seeing you whenever I woke up, and now I have another thing I look forward to.”
Bryce grinned down at her and took her hands, pulling her gently toward the table. “I’m so glad that I make you happy. You have made me and continue to make me the happiest man alive…”
Joy took her seat, already having set the table. She waited for Bryce to sit down next to her before she set the plate full of sandwiches in front of him.
“I’m glad,” she responded in a whisper. “Where would you even be without all of this yummy food?”
Bryce sighed dramatically as he sat down. “Probably starving under some bridge somewhere… I would be so lost without you, beautiful.”
