Alex took a deep breath, arms still tucked around himself in a tight almost hug.
Alex took a deep breath, arms still tucked around himself in a tight almost hug.
Gabe looked back when Alex breathed deeply. He wanted to ask if he was okay again, but he figured he'd get the same answer as usual.
"My place isn't the fanciest, but it serves it's function," he said.
Alex nodded a little. "So long as it's a-a roof and four walls." he replied softly, eyes flickering.
Gabe glanced over when Alex stuttered.
"How are you feeling right now? And don't just say 'I'm fine.' I want an actual answer."
Alex bit his lip. "I can't sleep alone." he replied quietly. "I-I just…I need someone else in…in the room…or I…" he rubbed one arm nervously, embarrassed.
Gabe nodded.
"Understandable. I only have one bed, but I can easily pull one of my chairs into the room for me."
Alex let out a breath. "No, you take your own bed. I can sleep on the…the floor or something. Just as long as I have a blanket and pillow."
Gabe shook his head.
"I'd prefer if you took the bed. Don't worry, I'm used to sleeping in a chair." Gabe gave Alex a small smile.
Alex studied him for a moment. "Are you sure?" He asked slowly. "I can sleep on the floor or something, it's…it's fine."
"I'm sure," Gabe said. "You are my guest, after all." He stopped in front of a building.
"We're here," he said casually.
Alex nodded a little. "Oh. Alright." He replied softly. He shifted a little, and looked at the building.
The building was a bit drab, but it was a bit nicer than the others. Bage obviously worked really hard to earn enough money to afford the rent. Gabe glanced at Alex.
"I have a room on the fifth floor, on the outer part. I hope you don't mind heights."
Alex blinked, then shook his head a little bit. "Heights are fine." he replied softly. He could already see the faint trails from ghosts moving through the building, and he hoped there weren't too many.
Gabe nodded, then made his way to the door, holding it open for Alex.
"Then there's no time to waste."
Alex took a deep breath, and went inside, clutching at his coat for a moment. "Thank you." he said softly.
"You're welcome!" Gabe smiled, heading in after Alex.
"The stairs are this way," he said.
Alex smiled a little bit in return. He headed towards the stairs. He tucked a hand in his coat, brushing a finger against his journal.
Gabe felt really happy when Alex smiled back at him. He led Alex up the stairs, occasionally greeting someone they would glimpse before continuing on.
Alex was quiet as they walked, his arms still tucked protectively around his body, and his shoulders curled inwards as if to make himself as small as possible.
Eventually, Gabe stepped out of the stairway, on the fifth floor.
"We're at the end of the hall, left side," he explained, making his way down.
"A really nice elderly lady lives next door- but she lost her husband a month ago." Gabe shook his head sadly.
Alex took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment, and continued walking. He nodded a little. "Alright." He said quietly. He could already see traces of a ghost, and hoped to God there was only one.
Gabe made his way to his apartment, opening the door.
"It isn't much, but you can stay as long as you need to." It was simple; a very sparse living room, a drab kitchen, a bedroom, a wash room.
Alex nodded a little bit, and stood awkwardly to the side. "Alright. Thank you." he said softly, looking up at Gabe a little anxiously.
Gabe nodded, heading to the kitchen to drop off the food from the bar. He came back, giving Alex another soft smile.
"Do you think you'll be able to find work? I don't care either way, but we should get you up on your feet."
Alex shrugged slightly. "M-maybe eventually? I just…not with Bedlam so recently, I…" He swallowed, raking a hand through his hair.
