Alex shrugged slightly. "I…sort of." he replied slowly. He ran a hand through his hair.
Alex shrugged slightly. "I…sort of." he replied slowly. He ran a hand through his hair.
"Okay then…" Gabe said to himself quietly.
"You okay with eating since of the leftovers from the bar?" He stuck his head out of the kitchen doorway.
Alex nodded. "Yeah. That's fine." he replied softly, getting up to help out.
"Great." Gabe ducks back into the kitchen, pulling the food out.
Alex watched him go, biting his lip a little and fidgeting with his jacket.
"Here," Gabe said, handing over Alex's leftover food.
Alex took it. "Thank you." he said softly. "For…everything." he bit his lip again, looking over at Gabe.
"You're welcome," Gabe said, turning around and giving Alex a kind, warm smile.
Alex let out a soft breath, and gave a tiny, hesitant smile in return.
Gabe's smile brightened even more when Alex returned it, and then he turned to get his own dinner of bread and a tiny piece of meat.
Alex took his plate carefully, taking a deep breath and eating a little.
Gabe jumped a little to sit on the counter, eating his tiny dinner with a smile.
"Sorry I couldn't offer more," he said apologetically.
Alex smiled a little. "It's alright. You…you already opened your home to me." he replied softly.
Gabe thought for a moment, then nodded.
"Still, I just wish I was better equipped to help you."
Alex shook his head quickly. "I-I don't think that…that anyone is." he replied softly, looking at his food.
"Oh? Why are you so sure about that?" Gabe asked, tilting his head a bit to catch Alex's eye.
Alex shrugged a little, looking at his food still. "Because." he replied softly.
Gabe sighed a little, leaning back.
"I think you'll be surprised by how much I can help."
Alex shrugged again. "Yes, but…not with everything." Not with the hole in my heart, not with the ghosts I see.
"Well, then, it's a good thing I'm not going to try to help with everything," Gabe said.
"You don't need help with everything," he quickly clarified. "Some things need to be addressed on your own, and some things will never go away. Still, it's my job now to help you get by in the society we live in."
Alex let out a breath. He nodded a little bit, then shrugged. "I…I guess so."
"Don't worry," Gabe said, finishing off his food. "You've got a friend in me." He jumped off of the counter, grinning his stupid silly grin again.
Alex gave a soft chuckle, and ate a bit more.
Gabe looked over in mock surprise.
"Did I hear you correctly- was that a chuckle?" His grin widened, and he looked extremely happy.
Alex blinked. "Oh. I…" he glanced up at Gabe through his lashes in a shy manner. "Maybe?"
