"It was just a single leaf," Matthew assured. "And thankfully he didn't swallow much. We induced vomiting to get the rest out, he should be fine."
"It was just a single leaf," Matthew assured. "And thankfully he didn't swallow much. We induced vomiting to get the rest out, he should be fine."
She nodded a bit and gently ran her fingers through his hair. "Well, I'm glad he's alright… should we head out soon?"
"Yes, we should," Matthew said softly. "While he's still asleep. If we travel while he is, he might not feel so bad."
She nodded again. "Yeah, that makes sense. Did you find any plants that aren't poisonous that might work for drinks?"
"Yes, Rowan did actually. He was sampling them when he accidentally ate the leaf. I'd told him the flower was safe, so he must have assumed the whole plant was…" Matthew sighed softly, moving to stand up.
"Right… well, I suppose we should get rid of anything poisonous before we continue." She picked up the pile of plants.
"Mm. I'll cut the edible parts off, and put them in the bag, then." Matthew held Rowan in one arm, pulling over the bag to get to work.
"Alright. Anything you need me to do while you're doing that?" She asked. "Packing up the food or supplies, maybe?"
"Yes, that would help, thank you." Matthew sat down again with Rowan in his lap as he started to cut up the plants.
She nodded and started gathering their things as she had said, soon getting them neatly back into what they were being carried in.
Matthew hummed softly as he worked, finally setting the plant parts he had cut off into the bag and discarding the rest.
"Shall we leave, then?"
"Yep. I'm ready to go whenever you are." She picked up a couple of things to carry on the journey.
Matthew held Rowan and the nest in his arms, Fluff right behind. He nodded once, starting out.
"Did you sleep well, ma'am?" He asked as they walked.
She nodded a bit. "Yes, I slept fine. About as well as can be expected. What about you?" She asked.
"As well as I could. I'm still worried about Rowan, though, and was for most of the night." Matthew let out a breath, looking down at the man in his arm.
"Understandable. We'll have to make sure we keep him out of trouble. He's been through enough as it is."
"He really has… hopefully things will get better when we get back home, though." Matthew pulled Rowan a bit closer, hugging the sleeping man to his chest.
"Right. I'm sure your home is safer than it is out here in the wild." She laughed softly.
"Yes, much," Matthew said, chuckling. "Though, that's mostly because the nests are hung from the trees…"
"Mm. Considering Rowan's fear of heights, we'll have to find a good way for him to get up without it bothering him."
"Yeah… It'll be interesting, indeed, to try to work around that." Matthew shook his head some. "I get why he stayed in this world, but you both could have stayed in the city. It would have been easier…"
"True, but if it makes him happy, I'm glad to make the change. I was getting tired of the city anyway."
"That's it, I'm not sure just what is so worth it in my village that he's willing to live there…" Matthew was right back to oblivious, wasn't he?
She rolled her eyes a bit. "He likes it here, and he likes being around you, I'm sure."
"A-Ah, true…" Matthew blushed softly, holding Rowan a bit closer. He smiled, patting the man's sleeping back.
