"Even though resting is the best thing he can do." Matthew shook his head some. "He's a bit stubborn…"
"He is, and I know it better than anybody." She laughed softly. "Once he's got his mind set on something, you can't convince him otherwise."
"We'll just have to make this trip quick then." Matthew chuckled weakly, hugging Rowan closer.
"Yep. We'll just have to carry him as far as we can while he's still sleeping."
"Right." Matthew let out a soft sigh. "Hopefully we can get pretty far."
"Mhmm. I think if we keep up the pace, we can. We'll have to stop for food at some point, though, and he might not want to go back to sleep after that."
"Okay, then, we'll just have to keep going. Maybe we'll even run into someone who can give us a lift, or the horses were came on." Wishful thinking, of course.
"Yeah, that would be good. Then we could go faster, at least." She sighed softly.
"Yeah, it would be. By the time we'll probably see the horses, though, it'll be just outside the village." Matthew sighed some, then chuckled softly.
"Yeah. I guess there aren't any more villages for a while?" She asked with a soft sigh.
"Not unless we made large detours," Matthew admitted. "And they might not be able to help much. Three longer we take to get back, the more worried people back home will be."
"Right. It's probably easier to just keep walking, even if it seems like it's taking a while."
"I must agree." Matthew hummed, shifting Rowan in his arms. He held the nest close as well, the children sleeping.
"We'll just have to try and keep a reasonable pace so that we go fast enough but also don't get too tired. Rowan needs his rest."
"Exactly. It'll be okay, though, at this rate it'll be less than a week until we get there." Matthew smiled slightly for encouragement.
"That's good. Hopefully he'll have healed a bit more by the time we get there, but at least there will be doctors and such there."
"Right. And no more poisonous plants." Matthew chuckled weakly, holding his arms still as he continued on.
"Definitely. We don't want him poisoning himself again." She sighed softly and kept walking.
"That would be really important, yes." Matthew leaned his head down to lightly rest his head on Rowan's, letting out a breath.
She nodded and kept quiet for some time while they were walking, occasionally adjusting her grip on the things she was holding.
Matthew fell quiet as well. He was content, mostly, to be walking with Rowan in his arms, the pets following behind and the chicks asleep.
She kept walking until about noon, when she paused and looked up at the sky. "Are you hungry?"
"A bit, yes, are you ma'am?" Matthew came to a stop, looking over.
"I could go longer, but I think now might be a good time to take a small rest. Do you want to wake Rowan, or should we let him sleep?"
"Think it would be best to let him sleep…" Matthew moved to sit down, wrapping Rowan's robes around him a bit better.
