"Well, there's a nice little pet shop down this way, and I've heard they have a good sitter system." Matthew smiled assuringly. Hopefully they wouldn't mistake Rowan for a pet too.
"Well, there's a nice little pet shop down this way, and I've heard they have a good sitter system." Matthew smiled assuringly. Hopefully they wouldn't mistake Rowan for a pet too.
"Alright… you don't think they'll think you want me to be watched, right?" He asked tentatively.
Matthew was quiet a moment.
"I'll do what I can to make sure that mix up isn't made again," Matthew finally said.
"Alright. Me holding your hand should hopefully be a sign since you're not… you know, carrying me."
"Right." It would also be easier for them to see there was no sigh of ownership on Rowan, either.
"How are you doing?" He asked. Most everyone around them are as tall as Matthew, if not slightly shorter or even taller.
"I'm… fine. Getting a little lost, honestly… everyone here is so big." Rowan sighed softly.
Matthew nodded.
"That's understandable…" Matthew kept his wing around Rowan, a bit protective in this crowd.
Rowan stuck close to Matthew, still clearly nervous. "Are we close?" He asked. "I can't see anything…"
"We are," Matthew promised. "Just a few streets away." Matthe gave Rowan's hand a gentle squeeze.
"Alrighty…" Rowan followed Matthew closely, holding the nest close to himself to keep it safe.
Soon, they arrived at a smaller, wooden board shop. Matthew took his wing from Rowan, stepping in.
Rowan trailed after Matthew, still looking around nervously. "Where's the sitters?" He asked.
"Over at that counter," Matthew said softly. There were many different kinds of animals in cages around the place, most of them human looking, like the chicks, or mythical creatures like Fluff. Matthew walked over to the counter, ringing a bell lightly for service.
Rowan obviously didn't like the look of the cages and protectively held the nest closer to himself. He kept quiet, however, not sure what to do.
A woman came out of the back, looking up.
"Hello, sir! How can I help you today?" The woman slithered on a giant snake tail, resting her elbows on the counter.
"Hello! My friend and I would like a sitter to watch over our chicks for about…" Matthew thought to himself.
"How long do you think we'll be gone?" He asked Rowan.
"Well, I don't know how time translates from here to there… assuming that it's the same, I doubt we'll be gone more than a day or two at most…"
"Alright then, two days it is!" Matthew turned to the woman.
"Is there anyone avaliable?" The woman looked through her pages.
"Yes!" She finally said. "They're the last one avaliable, too. Would you need a sitter to stay with them, or shall we watch them here?"
"Uhm… I'd prefer for somebody to stay with them… I don't like the idea of them being in cages." Rowan held the nest closer to his chest.
"Alllright then!" The woman said. "They'll arrive before you leave, so as to ensure it is easy to give instructions. Have a good day!" Matthew smiled softly, turning with Rowan.
"See?" He said softly. "They'll be perfectly safe."
Rowan nodded weakly and followed Matthew out. "I'm still worried about them… I… I don't want anything to happen."
Matthew put his wing back around Rowan as they walked, hand on his shoulder.
"I know. Tammy and Tommy will be perfectly fine, I assure you." He offered a small smile.
"I worry about them too."
Rowan nodded again and sighed, looking down into the next. "I've never left anything with a sitter before… my mom would just watch Maisie if I ever had to go anywhere."
"Well, think about it like that. The sitter will treat the chicks and Fluff just as well as your mother does Maisie." Matthew gave a soft sigh.
Rowan huffed a bit and held the nest closer. "I doubt it… my mother is great with Maisie and these sitters don't even know our babies."
"They'll get to know our babies," Matthew said softly. "It'll be okay." Matthew sighed softly, pausing in his walking to turn and hug Rowan lightly.
