"Matthew? Can you help me get some food for them?" Rowan asked, heading over to where they were before so he could sit down with Tammy.
"Matthew? Can you help me get some food for them?" Rowan asked, heading over to where they were before so he could sit down with Tammy.
Matthew nodded. He came over as well, sitting down. He lifted the bag of food up, pulling out a grub and crushing it's head. Tammy brightened a bit at the food, scrambling over to take it from Matthew's fingers and biting down before Rowan could feed it to her. Matthew chuckled softly.
"Someone's hungry," he said gently. "Shall we feed the boys too?"
"Yeah, we probably should." Rowan smiled gently and pet Tammy while she ate. "Could you grab a couple more grubs for them, please?" He asked. "They're squirmy and slimy and icky…"
"Yes, I'll get them." Timmy came out when he heard food, Tommy's arms around him and getting pulled along. The sleepy boy looked up, letting out a questioning coo. Matthew pulled out a couple grins, killing them.
Rowan accepted the grubs from Matthew and held them out to Timmy and Tommy. "Here you go, babies… you're alright. Thanks, Matthew."
"You're welcome, Rowan!" Matthew smiled. Timmy reached out, grabbing his worm. He bit down, smiling a bit. Tommy didn't let go of Timmy, trying to take a bite of his too, but Timmy whined and held the grub away from his brother.
"Nah ah, you've got your own, baby." Rowan held the other grub out to Tommy. "That one is Timmy's. This one's just as good."
Tommy looked up at Rowan, finally detaching from his brother to grab the grub. He sat down, starting to eat when a smile. Tammy finished up, making her way over to sit on Rowan's arm happily.
"You feeling any better now, love?" Rowan asked Tammy softly, rubbing her head a bit with one finger. "Are you still hungry or are you good?"
Tammy leaned into the petting, letting out a soft trill. She patted her stomach a bit. A single grub was enough for her. She turned to face Rowan, smiling up at him.
"She looks to be doing better," Matthew noted.
"That's good…" Rowan sighed softly in relief. "Please don't run off again like that, okay? I don't want you to get hurt."
Tammy nodded a bit. She didn't really plan on doing it…
Matthew wrapped his arms a bit more around Rowan. Timmy and Tommy has finished their food, Tommy trying to latch on again. Matthew, instead, offered his finger, which Tommy quickly grabbed onto.
"Good girl… we'll probably get going again soon." Rowan sighed and leaned into Matthew a bit. "Unless it's too late to set out again… I don't think it is, though."
"We can ride for a couple more hours, or we could settle down early. I'll leave it up to you." Matthew smiled gently, living Tommy up onto his hand. The boy had already fallen asleep again. Timmy was clinging to the fabric of Rowan's shirt now.
"Mm… I think it'll be best to get going again. These guys should stay asleep for it, and we want to get to the city as soon as possible. If you'd rather stop, that's okay, though."
Tammy had yawned quietly, humming faintly. Matthew nodded.
"Sounds like a plan." Matthew smiled, gently slipping Tommy back into the nest.
"Mm… wanna help me up onto the horse, then?" Rowan asked, getting to his feet with the nest in his arms.
Matthew nodded, making sure all the chicks were safely tucked away in the nest. He stood as well. He simply picked Rowan up, carrying him with himself back to the horses.
Rowan carefully got himself settled on the house when Matthew put him up, holding the nest close to himself so it would be safe.
Matthew pulled himself up, humming softly.
"Ready to go?" he asked. The three chicks were all sleeping, snuggled close together.
"Yep! Hopefully they'll stay asleep through the night… how long do birds sleep?" Rowan asked softly. "I know kittens and puppies sleep a lot, but I dunno about birds…"
"They sleep a long time too," Matthew said. "They're usually either eating or sleeping."
"Sounds good to me. I just don't want them waking up in the middle of the night and wandering off and getting hurt…"
"They won't. And if they do end up waking up, we'll leave the nest so they couldn't leave without us waking up." Matthew smiled a bit, wrapping his arms around Rowan.
"Mmkay… I don't wanna risk them getting hurt." Rowan sighed shakily. "We could've lost Tammy today."
