"Okay then. I'm going to have to have to get a couple more beds." Or just one for Rowan's mother, but Matthew didn't say that out loud.
"Okay then. I'm going to have to have to get a couple more beds." Or just one for Rowan's mother, but Matthew didn't say that out loud.
"That sounds fine to me." Rowan smiled gently. "Ooh, I can't wait for her to meet Fluff and Timmy, Tammy, and Tommy."
Tammy poked her head out when she heard her name, cooing a bit and looking around. Could she leave the nest yet? Matthew chuckled softly.
"I'm sure all of them will love her."
"Mhmm. Not yet, baby. It's not safe." Rowan gently nudged Tammy back into the nest and continued to pet her."
Tammy huffed, crossing her arms. Still, she leaned into the petting, nuzzling Rowan's hand.
"Should we take a break soon?" Matthew offered.
"Probably, yeah… Tammy is obviously antsy, and I'm sure they're all getting hungry." Rowan sighed softly.
"Okay then!" Matthew looked around, leading the horses to a small clearing. He got down, lifting Rowan and the nest up. Tammy stuck her head out again when she felt the nest moving, grinning. Timmy poked his head out too, letting out a small whine at the movement. Tommy was still dead asleep.
Rowan settled himself down on the ground with the nest in his lap. "Alright, Tammy… you can explore a bit now, but don't go wandering off! We don't wanna lose you."
Tammy immediately scrambled out of the nest, standing on Rowan's let a moment before sliding down. She was barely taller than the grass around her and she let out an excited trill. Matthew chuckled softly.
"She looks excited."
"Yeah." Rowan laughed softly. "She's having fun. We gotta make sure we don't lose sight of her, though. She's really little…"
Tammy was running around, the grass rustling as she hurried through it. She started to wander off too far, so Matthew reached out to pick her up, seeing her back down near them again.
"She loves doing things like this, I see." He chuckled, rubbing her head lightly.
Rowan gently pet Tammy as well with a soft smile on his face. "Mhmm… you gotta stay close, baby. Don't want you getting hurt or anything." He yawned a bit and hummed as he looked up at Matthew.
Tammy took off again after the head pets, laughing a bit. Matthew smiled, chuckling softly. He put one arm around Rowan, watching Tammy a moment before looking at the nest. Matthew heard a rustle in the grass, but just figured it was Tammy still.
Rowan glanced up when he heard rustling, clearly worried. He didn't want to risk anything happening to Tammy, especially since he couldn't see her at the moment. "Tammy? Where are you? Come back, please!"
Matthew looked around as well, growing worried when he couldn't spot Tammy.
"Tammy?" There was a rustle in the grass, and Tammy popped out, grinning. She looked perfectly okay, arms and wings spread out. There was a rustle in the grass behind her, that she didn't notice, as a cat came pouncing out.
"Tammy!" Rowan scrambled to his feet and ran over, quickly grabbing the chick before the cat could get to her. He exhaled shakily and held Tammy close to himself. "Please never do that again…"
The cat yowled, growing a bit but stalked away. Matthew got up quickly, picking the nest up to protect Tommy. Tammy was shaking a bit, holding tightly to Rowan's finger and letting out a soft cry. She was absolutely terrified.
"Shh, shh, you're okay… I'm not gonna let the mean kitty get you. You're safe, okay?" Rowan gently stroked Tammy's head to try and calm her down.
Tammy buried her face in Rowan's finger, shaking a bit. She leaned into the stroking just slightly. Matthew came over putting one arm around Rowan and putting his wings around them, like a cocoon.
Rowan leaned into Matthew, holding Tammy close to his face as he comforted her. "Are Timmy and Tommy okay?" He asked softly.
Matthew looked into the nest, nodding.
"They're okay," he assured. Tammy pulled away from Rowan's finger to lean against his face. She'd stopped crying, but she was still shaking.
Rowan nodded a bit and closed his eyes, humming a soft tune to soothe Tammy. He didn't like seeing her so upset.
Tammy nuzzled Rowan a bit. His humming seemed to help, and eventually she stopped shaking. She rubbed her head against his face weakly again, letting out a soft sound.
"You're okay, baby… we're gonna take care of you. Are you hungry? Or do you need another minute?" He asked softly.
Tammy looked up, wiping her eyes a bit. She made a small chirp, pointing to her mouth. Good would be nice.
