He shook his head. "Maybe for you. Not for me." he replied softly. "I'll be trapped like this for….ever." he let out a slow, soft sigh.
He shook his head. "Maybe for you. Not for me." he replied softly. "I'll be trapped like this for….ever." he let out a slow, soft sigh.
"I meant specifically for you, but I guess it's wishful thinking, huh?" Tohru sighed, "At least, you think it is. I mean, if the rebellion manages to topple the empire anytime soon, then maybe you'll be able to live a quiet life, but honestly, that doesn't seem to be likely right now."
He snorted. "Even if they do…I'll still always be an oddity. No one is used to seeing Kaythani anymore, and that's…well. It'll always be like that. Do you know that most people ask if I'm a stripper? Because I'm Kaythani?"
Tohru frowned.
"Tch… A stripper? Of all things? I understand seeing you as different, as you are one of the last, if not the last of your kind. But making assumptions, and asking such brazen questions… disgusting."
He shifted uncomfortably.
"Is there an actual reason for that assumption, or is it just people being pieces of shit?"
"Well…some Kaythani were, for a while, because it was one of the few things that was actually…well. Available to my people for a while, because there were this bullshit rules against non-humans being anything important. So. Since my people were naturally pretty graceful…" He trailed off, shrugging. "We still have a reputation for… that."
"Ah, I see… It's still not appropriate to pry into, of course," Tohru muttered, "Seems too personal to just go up to someone and ask those kinds of questions."
He leaned back, yawning.
"I'm getting awfully tired. It's been a long night for both of us."
"Yeah, well." He shrugged slightly. "And…yeah, alright." He ran his hand through his hair, shaking his head a little. "Where am I sleeping?"
"Ship's not that big, but there should be room in the back. I've got plenty of pillows and blankets, too," Tohru said, "Or if you want to grab something comfy from the back and doze off in the passenger seat, you can do that too."
He nodded, standing up and letting out a sigh. "Okay." he reached back and undid the bun holding his hair back, the black and white strands falling in curls around his shoulders. "Thanks."
“Rest well,” Tohru said, glancing Davin’s way.
He tightened up his own bun and made sure any hair was out of his eyes. Tohru was too nervous to sleep, as exhausted as he was.
Davin nodded a little bit, and headed to the back, grabbing some blankets and pillows and curling up to go to sleep. He let out a slow breath, eyes drifting shut.
Tohru let out a shaky sigh. Davin was in a vulnerable situation right now. It would be so easy to just turn him in and take the money, but it felt so wrong to do so. He hovered his hands over the controls, contemplating a change in course, but eventually decided against it.
After making sure the ship was on autopilot, Tohru leaned back in his seat, looking out the window. He began to nod off.
Davin fell asleep, curled in the back. He was on his back, the blankets tangled around his body, his head turned slightly to one side, his horns shining faintly in the light. His tail was curled around his feet.
Tohru slept restlessly, sleeping for a few minutes then waking up. About half an hour in, he jolted awake, suddenly feeling panicked. He sat upright, panting and shaking. Tohru wiped some sweat from his brow and hunched over, trying to sort through everything he was thinking.
Davin was still asleep, curled up with his tail twined around his legs. His hair had fanned out, and was all over his face too. He let out a slow sigh in his sleep.
Tohru got up to walk to the back and grab a blanket, or anything comfortable, really. His nerves were really getting to him.
He carefully tiptoed through the back of the ship, careful not to disturb Davin. Tohru found his gaze settling on Davin for a minute before he grabbed what he needed.
Davin rolled over onto his side, knees bending a little bit and a soft smile tugging at his lips. In his sleep, he looked younger, less stressed and alone than he did awake.
Tohru frowned a bit as he looked at Davin again. At least he seemed comfortable. Tohru resigned himself to laying down in the back where there was room. It was a bit reassuring to not be alone for once. He'd always traveled alone.
Davin's tail uncurled from his legs, brushing lightly against Tohru for a moment. He didn't awaken, that soft smile still tugging at his lips.
Tohru sighed softly at the accidental touch. It was definitely reassuring, but also made him a bit regretful. What if they had been able to actually spend time together that night on friendly terms instead of as a bounty hunter and a Kaythani? Tohru silently wondered if they ever would have even met. Maybe it was better this way.
Davin's tail curled back around his feet again, and the Kaythani shifted in his sleep, one arm shifting to hug the blanket tighter to his body.
After fighting sleep for a while and watching Davin sleep, Tohru felt himself slipping into a heavy sleep. He had barely slept over the last two days, and it was catching up to him quickly. Even his worries right now didn't have the power to keep him awake any longer.
Tohru drifted off, slumped against the back wall, his blanket halfway wrapped around him.
Davin slept through the night in a rather undisturbed sleep. When he awoke, though, that little smile vanished as he sat up, shoulders sagging. He had dreamed of home again. Of his home planet, before it was destroyed. He let out a slow breath, rubbing his face with his hands.
Tohru was still asleep when Davin got up. He had slept restlessly, but was still out, though he occasionally stirred. His hair, now only halfway in its bun, hung from his head tangled and disheveled.
Davin glanced at Tohru, taking a deep breath and standing up. "Damn." He juttered, stretching and shaking his head a little bit.
