Davin nodded a little. "Thank you, ma'am." He said politely as they followed the landlady to her desk.
Davin nodded a little. "Thank you, ma'am." He said politely as they followed the landlady to her desk.
Tohru took charge of filling out most of the paperwork, and he worked through it rapidly before handing it to Davin to check.
"And the security deposit?" he asked, "Is it the same as rent?"
The landlady nodded. Tohru looked through his wallet.
"Let's see… between the two of us, we probably have enough… We haven't set up jobs here yet or anything."
Tohru looked to Davin for any possible help.
Davin checked the balance for one of his accounts. "I can cover the charge for the security deposit, Tohru." He replied simply. "Then we'll get jobs and split rent fifty fifty." He shrugged his shoulders.
"You sure?" Tohru asked.
The landlady looked to Davin. "Well, while you two decide, I can go grab the keys to the apartment."
Tohru glanced at Davin again. "You don't have to."
Davin nodded. "I've got it. I…hacked into my family's old accounts a while ago, drained everything out. I've got enough. I can pay for the security deposit, alright?" A pang went through his heart as he remembered seeing the money his parents had put into funds for him and his siblings, supposed to be held until they were of age. Supposed to be used to set up a home with their mate.
"Alright, then," Tohru agreed.
He, on the other hand, had nothing from his parents. Tohru had purposefully run away from his home life as fast as he could when he was old enough and stable enough. Of course, since he left without a word, he got nothing from them, and he hadn't spoken to them in years.
The landlady came back in, two keys in her hand.
"Pay up, and it's all yours," she said, placing the keys on the desk in front of her as she sat down again.
Davin nodded. "Alright. Uhm, I need an account number to transfer the funds to. I don't have physical money." He liked to travel pretty light. With his looks, he couldn't afford to draw extra attention with loads of cash.
"Of course."
The landlady pulled something up on her screen to show Davin.
"Here it is."
Tohru sat there quietly, shifting uncomfortably in his seat. He avoided eye contact with the landlady altogether.
Davin nodded, putting in the account information to send the necessary amount of money. "There." He said, putting his device away again.
The landlady looked at the screen again, and when she saw the deposit had been sent, she slid the keys toward the two men.
"Here you go. Let me know if you need anything."
Tohru cleared his throat.
"Um… do you know the best way to find work around here?"
"It's pretty easy to find low-wage jobs like being a maid or cook. If you're looking for something higher-paying, good luck. Unless you want to go into black market trade or something. It's illegal, but pretty commonplace around here."
Davin nodded, taking one set and handing the other set to Tohru. "Right. Thank you, ma'am." he said politely, and led Tohru to the apartment. "Looks like I might have to be a stripper." he commented, only half joking. He shot Tohru a faint grin as he unlocked the door. "Let's see what we've got."
“Yeah, at least we’ve secured a place,” Tohru sighed, “I’ve got some bedding in my ship. We can take it here, and that should at least prepare us for tonight.”
He hooked the key onto his keychain as he waited for Davin to open the door.
Davin opened the door, sighing softly. "Alright." He didn't think he'd mind being a stripper, all that much. He'd done it before, once. His only issue was that most assumed that he was also a prostitute, in addition to a stripper. Which…was not at all true.
A very distinct smell hit Tohru as the door opened. It was sweet and smoky, also vaguely floral. He laughed to himself.
"Well, I think we know a bit about the last resident. Not sure whether they were a dealer or an addict, but uh… we're going to have to clean this place up a little."
He walked over to one of the windows and cracked it open.
He laughed softly. "Mhm." he ran his fingers through his hair. "I mean…drugs can be fun, but nah." he opened a few windows as well, shaking his head.
“I’m too weak to smoke anything,” Tohru laughed, “I’ve tried this stuff before. Ended up just fucking choking for a while and having a bad trip.”
Tohru walked over into the bedroom to see what it looked like.
“Overall, this honestly isn’t half-bad,” he admitted.
He chuckled faintly at that, and followed Tohru to the bedroom, peeking inside. "Well. The bed isn't too shabby looking, so that's good." He replied, shaking his head a little bit.
"True, true. What're you thinking? Want to rest a bit or head into town to look for work?" Tohru asked.
He continued walking around the apartment, and went to look into the bathroom. Not bad. Just needed a little cleaning.
Davin sighed softly, taking off the hood and shrugging. "I don't know. I think I'll look around on the net, see if I can find a job, yeah?" He replied. "Any specific type of thing you'd be interested in?"
"I've been a bounty hunter for a while. I'm not skilled in much else that I could lay low in, honestly. I could maybe pick up jobs doing private investigation but… that might attract attention or danger," Tohru replied.
He nodded. "Hm. You good with like…coding or anything? Any subsets of skills from Bounty Hunting that could be useful?" he asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Not coding. I'm not great with technology. I'm good at problem solving. Or I could just pick up a few bounties here instead," Tohru sighed, "I feel pretty limited, actually."
Davin sighed. "Yeah…I don't know, then." he replied. "I can pull a decent job, but…" he shook his head. "It's a little hard. Because…well." he gestured at the horns sticking from his head.
“I can imagine,” Tohru said, “But you’ve done it before. You’ve got this.”
He shrugged.
“Honestly I’ll take any work I can get, as long as I don’t get too much attention for it.”
He nodded. "Alright. I'll see if I can find you anything. Don't worry, you don't need to be a stripper." he teased. He sat down and started looking through the different jobs available, humming softly.
