He let out a huff. "They want me because I'm a symbol. Not because I can actually contribute anything worthwhile."
He let out a huff. "They want me because I'm a symbol. Not because I can actually contribute anything worthwhile."
"Will that not keep you safer?"
Tohru stopped dead.
"I wasn't joking when I said it was easy for me to find you. That's all concerning. Are you going to be okay? I can always just let you go, lie… say that I couldn't get you, but…"
His mind was racing yet again.
He snorted a little bit. "Of course it was easy to find me. I'm the only goddamn Kaythani left." he closed his eyes, shaking his head a little bit.
"But if that's the case, why don't you join? If you're just a symbol, you won't get thrown into the fray, no matter how little they care for you. At least, I don't think… Dude, what are you going to do after this?" Tohru continued.
"I'll move on. Next planet, next station." he replied, wincing in pain. "And I don't want to join. It's a hopeless exercise that they can't win."
"How long can you keep that up?" Tohru asked, his tone growing much darker and sadder, "It must be miserable, on top of dangerous."
He took a key from his pocket, biting his lip.
"Why am I doing this?" he muttered, "Why can't I just capture him and take the damn money…?"
He shrugged. "It's not that bad." He replied calmly, shaking his head slightly. "But…I don't know." He ran a hand through his hair, sighing softly.
"So what do you want me to do? Just let you go?" Tohru sighed, "I'm quite conflicted, if I'm being honest."
(not gonna be on tonight, sorry)
He snorted. "I'd love it if you would, but…I know you won't." he replied, shaking his head a little bit.
(It's all good)
"To be fair, I don't even know whether I'll let you go or not," Tohru admitted, "What if I did? What would happen to both of us then, hm?"
He shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know." he replied honestly. "I'd go. Next planet, wherever. I don't know what would happen to you."
Tohru shook his head.
"You seem awfully confident there. Sadly, I don't think it's that simple. And it's definitely not that simple for me. In fact, I'd be lucky if they killed me. They take betrayal very seriously."
He glanced over at Tohru, letting out a sigh. "Godsdamnit." He muttered. "That's…sorry."
“Yeah, so while the money is tempting, the real reason I’m considering turning you in is the consequences,” Tohru admitted, “I’m not sure if you’re calling me sorry or them sorry, but either way, this whole thing is pretty fucked.”
He let out a soft breath. He let out a litany of Kaythani words, most of which were curse words. "So basically, unless I come with you, you die."
“I’d bet on it, yeah,” Tohru replied.
He turned around and closed his eyes. “Also, I lied to you about my name. Sort of. It’s Tohru. Sorry.”
He let out a faint sound that was half laugh, half breath. "Ugh. Alright." he ran a hand through his hair, wincing when he moved.
“If I unlocked those cuffs right now, would you bolt?” Tohru asked, “I don’t want to keep you like this, but… I think we need to figure things out before we part ways.”
He shrugged a little bit, his hands dropping back down to his sides. "I….I don't know." he replied honestly. "I…"
Tohru paced a bit, frustrated and confused. Then he twirled the key in his hand and walked towards Davin.
“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” he murmured.
(I probably gtg soon)
Davin watched Tohru warily, tail flicking back and forth, but not lashing out again. He took a deep breath.
Tohru leaned down and placed the key into its hole in the cuffs. He slowly turned it until it clicked and the cuffs loosened. He backed up again, looking at Davin expectantly.
Davin pulled the cuffs off, heading over to a cabinet and pulling out a first aid kit, then began working on the wound where he had been shot.
“Can I help with anything?” Tohru offered, staying where Davin had previously been.
He swayed a little where he stood, feeling awkward. He’d just cuffed and shot this guy, and now he was offering to help him.
Davin shook his head, working on the wound. "No." He said simply. He finished, wrapping the injury in a bandage and getting up.
