“Yeah…” Tohru replied, “Again, sorry.”
He shifted the ship into gear and they rose up into the sky.
“Yeah…” Tohru replied, “Again, sorry.”
He shifted the ship into gear and they rose up into the sky.
"It's alright." he replied. He sat down, running a hand down the hem of his cloak, feeling the fabric beneath his fingers.
"So um… what all is there to know about you?" Tohru asked, awkwardly trying to break the ice, "I figure, we're stuck with each other for a bit, I might as well get to know you as a person, not just as a Kaythani."
He let out a faint laugh. "Uh. There really isn't that much about me to know." he replied slowly, shaking his head.
"Really?" Tohru pressed, "Sure there is. What do you like to do? You know, things like that? You're probably more interesting than you give yourself credit for."
He ran a hand through his hair. "I don't know." he said, shaking his head again. "Sorry. I just…I don't know."
“Ah, well that’s okay,” Tohru replied, “I’d probably have a hard time too, put on the spot like that.”
He glanced over, a curious gaze over his face.
He chuckled softly. "Yeah….so how about you tell me a bit about you, huh?" He grinned over at Tohru.
“Oh, me? I… I guess so. I’ve been a bounty hunter since I was fifteen, after I ran away from home. I haven’t had a super stable place to live for a while. Not unlike you, I guess. I’ve always been on the move, but for different reasons,” Tohru explained.
He nodded a little bit. "Yeah, makes sense." he replied, running his hands through his hair and letting out a slow breath. "I'm just…I don't know."
“Don’t… don’t worry about answering my questions,” Tohru tried to reassure Davin, “I was only curious. You don’t have to talk about yourself if you don’t want to.”
He nodded again, giving Tohru a faint little smile. "Yeah, alright." he replied, running his hands through his hair again, just for something to do.
“Oh yeah, how’s your arm?” Tohru asked, “I have medicine somewhere in the back. There should be pain medicine if you need it.”
He glanced over to Davin again.
He shook his head a little. "I'm good." He replied, looking at Tohru. "I'll be fine for now. We'll see if that changes later."
“Hopefully not,” Tobey sighed.
He had his hands draped over the controls in a relaxed manner.
“So what’s you plan?”
He shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. Find an apartment of some sort to stay in for a while, find a short-term job, and move on to the next planet after that."
Tohru shook his head.
"How long are you going to keep that up?" he questioned again, "Eventually, you'll run out of places to run, and that's assuming no one is able to track you first."
He sighed. "I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. But I can't stay in one place. The empire wants to make en example of me like they did my people, and the rebellion wants a figurehead. So there's nowhere I can go." I can't ever go home.
Tohru swallowed. “Do you… do you know why the Kaythani were persecuted?”
He lowered his head a bit and averted his gaze.
“Well, that is to say, I don’t know why for sure.”
He let out a breath. "Because we started a rebellion." he replied, not looking at Tohru. He looked down at his hands. "Because we were all in it together, because that was part of how our government worked. Either we all were in it together, or none of us would have done it."
“Ah, so… not only are you a representation of the result of the empire’s wrongs, but you are also essentially the remains of a people who fought against them to begin with,” Tohru pondered, “Yet… that’s not even what you all wanted… I’m sorry to hear all that. I know it was a long time ago, but I feel like I might be dredging up some painful memories. Let me know if I’m pushing too far.”
He let out a faint laugh. "Yeah." He agreed. "And that's why the rebellion wants me. Perfect figurehead, like I said." He shrugged his shoulders. "You're fine. For now."
"If you say so," Tohru replied, "I'm- I'm just trying to make sense of everything here, I guess. There are so many games being played between both sides, aren't there?"
He let out a faint laugh. "Yeah. And I'm caught in the middle of all of them." He replied, shaking his head just a little bit.
"I can't even begin to imagine," Tohru sighed, leaning back in his seat.
"I wonder if there's any way to get out of it. That'd be nice."
