“If you say so,” Tohru sighed, “Look, I- I don’t know. I’m sorry, I guess? Apologies won’t do much, but here I am.”
“If you say so,” Tohru sighed, “Look, I- I don’t know. I’m sorry, I guess? Apologies won’t do much, but here I am.”
Davin sighed. "Yeah. I…guess so." He replied with a shrug. He looked at Tohru, biting his lip.
Tohru frowned.
That must hurt… a lot, he thought to himself.
Feeling nervous and fidgety, Tohru looked for something to do with his hands. He readjusted his hair, fixing the bun that had nearly fallen out in his tussle with Davin.
Davin examined Tohru for a moment, then looked away again. He took a deep breath, trying to process everything that had just happened.
Tohru sank down so he was sitting against the wall.
“Well…” he murmured to himself, also trying to figure things out- but mainly, what he was going to do next.
Davin rubbed his face tiredly, breathing in and out slowly. "I'm sorry." He mumbled.
“What are you sorry about?” Tohru mumbled, “I’m the one who injured you, aren’t I?”
He let out a heavy sigh.
“Gods, I’ve been shot with one of those before. I know firsthand that it’s not nice at all.”
"Yeah. But I meant…that you might die. Because of this. Me." He shook his head a little bit. "And I'll heal. Eventually." He let out a breath.
“Also maybe my fault?” Tohru offered, “I thought I could handle this, but apparently not. Whatever, I’ve just gotta come up with a plan. A way out.”
(gtg in about ten minutes, btw)
He let out a breath, and nodded. "You really are a terrible bounty Hunter." He let out a laugh, shaking his head. "Sorry."
“Would you believe me if I said it’s easier to take people dead than alive?” Tohru laughed, “This was kind of a different job. That’s for sure.”
He snorted. "You probably could have killed me. They would have figured out some way to make me a martyr." He replied, shaking his head a little bit. His tail flicked slightly.
“For certain, but you see… that’s exactly what I was told not to do,” Tohru sighed, “And while I could go back empty-handed, they definitely could figure out that I let you go. There’s plenty of evidence that I had you easily within my grasp.”
He shrugged a little bit. "Yeah. I'm sorry." He replied, running his hands over his horns, sighing softly.
Tohru clenched his fist.
"Stop apologizing," he snarled, "I figure I'll just live my life as a fugitive, like you have been. You've been doing it for a while, and you're pretty obviously a Kaythani. I blend in pretty easily, so it won't take much for me to do the same, I'm certain. Besides, it's not like I'm breaking any strong bonds by leaving. No one will miss me."
He blinked at the snarl, backing away a step. "I've been surviving as a fugitive because I have to." he snapped in return, tail lashing slightly. "Because I don't have a choice. I don't have a home to go back to, not unless I want to die like everyone else! I don't know a goddamn thing about you, but you can fit in because no one decided to massacre your people."
“That’s what I’m saying…” Tohru sighed, “I want you to stop apologizing because first of all, this is my fault. And second, it’s not going to be too horribly hard for me to hide. I hate it when people apologize over and over again. You did nothing wrong. In a lot of people’s eyes, unfortunately the only ‘wrong’ thing you did was exist. If anyone should apologize, it’s me and those who have been apprehending you. Not that they care to. But… still. It’s annoying. Just stop saying you’re sorry.”
Tohru turned away, a slight flush coming to his cheeks.
Davin clenched his jaw. "Fine." He he retorted. He crossed his arms, careful of the wound, and looked away. He took a deep breath.
Tohru stole a glance of Davin, then looked away again. His face felt like it was burning. As much as he wanted to say more, he felt like it was all useless, and on top of that, he was feeling tongue-tied.
Davin rubbed his face with a hand, letting out a slow breath. What would mom and dad think? He wondered. At all of this. Any of it.
“I guess I’ll clear out…” Tohru started.
However, he felt frozen where he was standing. He’d never been on the run before. Not like this. Although he said those words, his legs wouldn’t move.
Davin sighed. "Come on. You can…stick with me. Obviously you're not used to this. And hey, I'm not the best at it either– too conspicuous –but we'll do our best."
"You- you are joking, right? I literally just shot you, and you're willing to help me out? How do you know I'm not leading you into another trap?" Tohru asked, bewildered, "Are you… sure about all of this?"
He shrugged. "Well. If you're leading me into another trap, then you're much smarter than I thought." he replied, without any derision or mocking.
"I'm smart…" Tohru protested quietly, "Just easily rattled, I suppose. Although, that'd be a lot of work when I could've caught you right here."
He sighed and leaned up against the wall.
"I caused a lot of trouble for both of us," he chuckled, a hint of disbelief in his voice.
This was still a lot to stomach for him.
