"Oh, well… I'm great at investigation, but I don't really want to have a big presence here," Tohru said, "I would make a great private investigator, but since we're running from people, I'd rather be a little more… discreet."
"Oh, well… I'm great at investigation, but I don't really want to have a big presence here," Tohru said, "I would make a great private investigator, but since we're running from people, I'd rather be a little more… discreet."
"Right. So what sort of skills does doing all that require?" Davin asked, taking a sip of coffee and raising his eyebrows at Tohru.
"Well, first and foremost, problem-solving. The ability to find contacts and get the most out of them you can. And uh… I dunno… I just feel…" his voice lowered a bit, "kind of useless, honestly…"
"So, problem-solving. That's a skill." Davin said, leaning over to make a note of that. "You aren't useless, Tohru, you've just never really done this before."
Tohru laughed. "You've known me two days and seen me fail a job. But I mean… if after all that, you still insist I'm not useless…
Tohru typed some things into the form, his fingers shaking a little.
"I hate this part… Why must I talk about myself…?" he grumbled with each keystroke.
"Because your employer needs to know how you view yourself. Trust me, I've done this like…so many times, gods, I can't even count it anymore." Davin replied, shaking his head.
"They can't know how I actually view myself," Tohru joked, "Time to lie, I guess."
He continued filling out the form.
"Might as well just start writing shit. I can go back and fix it if I don't like it."
Davin snorted softly. "Just…I don't know. Don't be afraid of your flaws, but don't emphasize them either, I guess." he shrugged his shoulders.
"That's the idea," Tohru murmured.
He finished the form, made a few small edits, and sent it before he could doubt himself anymore.
"Alright, there we go."
He took another sip of his coffee, and nodded. "Good. Now we should both have jobs, eventually."
“Yeah, hopefully,” Tohru smiled.
“Well, I’ll drop a few more applications at other places and call it a day.”
(not gonna be super active tonight sorry)
He smiled. "Alright. Well. Once you're done with that, what would you like to do?" he asked, looking at Tohru with a raised eyebrow.
(Same here, you're fine)
"Oh, I haven't gotten that far," Tohru mused, "Did you have any ideas?"
He took another sip of his coffee.
He laughed, and sipped his coffee. "Eh. Not really, sadly." He replied with a soft smile. "I wish I did."
"Well, we could explore the town a bit more, I guess," Tohru suggested, "It would be nice to get more familiar with the place."
Davin nodded. "Alright, sounds like a plan." he replied, looking over at Tohru, flashing another quick smile. "We can head out whenever, I guess."
"We can chill this morning," Tohru said, drinking up the last of his coffee.
"You want some more?" he asked, motioning at his cup and getting up to walk to the kitchen, "Hate to break it to you, but I practically need this stuff to live."
He laughed softly.
"Makes up for the lost sleep a little, I guess."
Davin laughed a little bit. "Oh, yes please." he replied, holding out his mug. "And…don't worry about that. I kinda do too. I mean, I'll survive without it, but whatever. Es hai fomentai."
Tohru grabbed the other's mug and stopped for a moment upon hearing the foreign words.
"That's Kaythani, isn't it? You… you used that same language the other night when we were… dancing," he asked, "It's very distinctive. Quite pleasing to listen to, actually."
He turned away and headed to the kitchen to get their drinks, his face burning a little.
Davin smiled a little, a hint of sadness in his eyes. "Yeah, it is." He replied, running a hand through his hair. "And…thanks. I don't…I don't actually get the chance to speak it a lot anymore."
"You're free to speak around me," Tohru replied, "You don't need to hide stuff, especially not about being Kaythani."
He walked back in with their drinks, hoping his slight flush had faded away, and he held out Davin's mug.
Davin smiled a little, taking the mug. "Thanks." He said quietly. "That's…thank you." He took a small sip of the coffee, closing his eyes for a moment.
Tohru smiled and let out a sigh of relief, trying to hide his facial expression by placing the rim of the mug against his mouth. He sat back down where he was on the couch and found his gaze wandering back to Davin.
Davin pressed a hand to his forehead for a moment, letting out a slow breath. "Ugh." he grumbled to himself, opening his eyes again.
“You doing okay?” Tohru asked, reaching out about to touch his shoulder before deciding against it.
