"Yeah. Just thinking." he replied, looking over at Tohru with a faint smile. "Nothing that needs to be worried about."
"Yeah. Just thinking." he replied, looking over at Tohru with a faint smile. "Nothing that needs to be worried about."
"If you're sure," Tohru responded, "If you do need to say anything, don't hesitate, of course."
He picked up his device again and began exploring some of the places nearby.
"Nah, nothing important." he said, running his hands through his hair, then taking another sip of coffee.
"I'm going to go take a shower and change," Tohru said, mostly in an attempt to get out of any more potential awkwardness, "Need the bathroom before I get in there?"
He nodded, then shook his head. "I'm good, go clean off." he replied, draining the rest of his coffee and standing. "I'll get dressed while you're in there."
"Right, right. See you in a few," Tohru finished, making his way back towards the bathroom.
He took out his bun, ran his fingers through to get out the tangles, and turned on the water before getting undressed and standing under the stream.
Tohru worked shampoo through his long hair, then went to absentmindedly scrubbing down his body. It was nice not thinking about anything but the water all around him, the steam rising into the air and filling his lungs, and the slight burning of nearly scalding water on his skin.
Davin went into the bedroom, changing into a clean set of clothes. He wished for a moment that he had any of the beaded jewelry that had been common among the Kaythani. Elaborate, beaded strands that had been woven around and through their horns, or slim little circlets that had been wrapped around the ends of their tails. Rings on their fingers, bracelets or anklets on their wrists and ankles, and some piercings. But he had been too young. Too young, and now he didn't have any. He didn't want to get a piercing, because he didn't have the right stones, and maybe that was unreasonable, but if he couldn't use real Kaythani beadwork, then he wasn't going to get piercings.
Tohru quietly hummed to himself as he shut off the water. His skin had a slight pink glow to it from the heat of the water, but the burns felt almost nice. He stepped out of the shower and started drying himself off, wringing out his hair and making sure there were no tangles in it. He slipped on his pants, then realized he had forgotten to grab a shirt. He went back into the bedroom and went to his bag, his back turned to Davin. Across his back was an elaborate tattoo: a bird made of fire, whose wings sprawled out over his shoulder blades and down to his ribs. As soon as he got what he came in for, he had covered the tattoo back up.
Tohru swept his hair back over the towel to keep from getting his shirt wet.
Davin spotted the bird, cocking his head a little bit, but didn't say anything about it. He bit his lip slightly as he looked at Tohru, then looked away again. Nope. He might be attractive, but nope. You can't afford a real relationship. Hookups are one thing. A relationship? No.
Tohru stretched out his back, still trying to wake himself up. He wrung his hair out onto the towel a little more.
Damn, if we're going out, I shouldn't have washed my hair- oh, whatever…
"Just let me know when you're ready to go," he said, getting back fully to his feet and going to the bathroom mirror to do some more minor grooming.
"Ready whenever you are." Davin replied. He ran a hand over his horns for a moment, feeling the smoothness of them beneath his fingers. The horns themselves didn't really have any nerves, but they still felt mild sensations.
"Okay, I'll be there in a sec," Tohru said, hastily tying back his wet hair, tucking in any unruly strands, and walking into the living room to finish off his coffee and put on his shoes.
Davin found his cloak, putting the hood on and the sleeves on his arms. He shook his head slightly, his hair tied back in a loose bun.
Tohru went to place his mug by the sink, and he led the way out the door, grabbing his jacket and checking for his wallet, keys, and device. He looked back over his shoulder, waiting for Davin to follow.
Davin smiled softly, and followed Tohru out of the apartment, looking around the hallway for a moment.
"Door's locked?" he double-checked as he walked on.
He had looked at Davin for too long. That smile. Again. He licked his lips nervously and turned back away, continuing down the hall.
Davin nodded. "I believe so, yes. So, do you have a destination in mind, or are we just walking?" he questioned, looking over at Tohru for a moment.
"Just walking for now," Tohru said, "If there's anywhere you want to see, though, I'd be happy to go there."
He tugged at the fabric of his jacket.
"Alright." Davin replied. "It might be interesting to go to a museum or something, though that's bound to be full of Empire propaganda."
"We can always look around, see if we can find a better one," Tohru agreed, "It sounds like it could be fun, you know? I've always wanted to go to a museum with someone. It feels strange to go alone."
He nodded, letting out a faint laugh. "There aren't any museums that aren't full of propaganda, Tohru." he replied, shaking his head. "Trust me on that one."
"I haven't… actually been to one…" Tohru admitted, rubbing the back of his neck, "That's a shame, then."
He frowned.
"My parents were strong Empire supporters, you know…"
"Ah. We can go to one if you like." he frowned a little at that last part, something flickering in those amber eyes. "…I see."
"I don't know, I feel like I've been raised around a lot of propaganda my whole life, and I never really batted an eye- at least not when I was younger- because that's just the kind of home I grew up in. Sure, things are different now, but… still."
Tohru shrugged, "And no, I'd… I'd rather not. What's the point of a museum if all it does is spread false "facts"?"
"I mean, not everything is false." Davin said. "Just…a lot of things…aren't quite true. Some of the justifications for things. Like the…like the destruction of my people. It's painted as…as better than it was."
