Tohru moved so that he was sitting at the edge of the bed, watching Davin sleep.
He looks so cute and peaceful…
Stop that! You’re the one who caused this disaster!
Tohru snapped his gaze back away, wringing his hands together nervously.
Davin rolled over onto his other side, facing Tohru now. His horns, luckily, hadn't gotten caught in the pillowcase, and his tail remained looped around his legs, flicking just a little bit.
Tohru leaned forwards a bit. He really wished they had just been two young men who caught feelings for each other at that club. It would’ve made things so much simpler. If only Davin wasn’t Kaythani.
Davin let out a quiet sound as he slept, shifting. His tail flicked out a little bit, the end brushing across the bed.
Tohru grabbed his blanket from the bed, scowling to himself.
"Why's it got to be like this?" he murmured under his breath.
He went to the living room to sleep on the couch. If he couldn't see Davin, maybe he wouldn't think about all this so much.
Davin kept sleeping, curled under the blankets with a peaceful expression on his face.
Tohru laid awake for a little while longer, but eventually curled up into the couch and went back to sleep. He had very vague nightmares that he wouldn't be able to remember when he woke up. It was a little distressing nonetheless.
Davin woke up a few times, gasping and disoriented, mind haunted with hazy nightmares and old memories. After those, it always took him a while to get back to sleep, but he always managed it, curling into the blankets and going back to sleep.
Tohru, in the other room, did not hear the stirring of his roommate. He stayed mostly asleep through the rest of the night, although it wasn’t the most restful sleep.
Davin finally awoke in the morning, stretching and letting out a soft groan. His eyes fell on where Tohru should have been, and he frowned a little bit, getting up and walking out of the bedroom.
Tohru was still asleep on the couch, curled up with his knees tucked close to his chest. His face was buried in the couch cushions, and he had the blanket tucked around his body tightly. He was mostly quiet, save the occasional stirring and small huff or small cry.
Davin spotted the other male, and his eyebrows pulled together. He headed to the kitchen and started a pot of coffee, before coming back. "Tohru?" he asked in a soft voice. Was the other having a nightmare? Did he need help?
Tohru slowly stirred awake and turned to Davin.
"Mm? What is it?" he asked, his voice hoarse in the way it often was when he first woke up, "Oh yeah, I guess I left the bed. I just couldn't sleep, and I didn't want to bother you with my restlessness."
Davin nodded slightly. "Right. Are you alright? You were making noises and stuff…" he trailed off, knowing he probably sounded a little stupid for saying that.
"I think I was just dreaming," Tohru laughed, "Thanks for the concern, though."
He sat up, arching his back out against the couch arm.
"Did you sleep okay?"
"Right. And…I slept about as well as i ever do." he sat down, running a hand through his hair. Which is to say, like shit. His mind was too haunted by death and golden skies to ever sleep very well.
"Alright, well…"
Tohru rose from his spot and continued to stretch out his stiff muscles.
"I can make us breakfast, if you'd like," he offered.
"I've got some coffee going, but breakfast would be great. Thanks." Davin replied, stretching, before standing up again. "We also need to find jobs."
"Yeah, we'll get there," Tohru said, moving to the kitchen.
He grabbed one of the pans they had bought and went through the food, trying to settle on something to cook. He grabbed the carton of eggs from the fridge and opened it. They belonged to some bird he wasn't very familiar with, but he assumed they would do just as well as any other kind.
Tohru turned on the burner and started working with a few simple ingredients to make them a meal.
Davin started searching for jobs for the both of them, pinning ones that were decent possibilities. He knew he needed a job where he could hide his Kaythani heritage easily, which meant no physical or outdoor jobs, or jobs that required a lot of movement.
After a little bit, Tohru brought Davin a plate and sat nearby.
"Looking for work?" he asked.
He set the food next to his roommate.
"I'm thinking I won't be picky. I don't… really care what kind of work I have to do."
Davin nodded. "Yeah. And…alright, but I'll still going to find you a halfway decent job." he replied. He set the device aside and took a bite of food, thinking.
"Half-decent," Tohru echoed, "That's all I'd ask for, though. Any luck on your end?"
Tohru took a few bites of his food and waited for an answer.
"Yeah. And…not really. What I can do is severely limited by…this." he touched one of his horns, his tail flicking slightly as he took a bite of food.
"Yeah, I suppose it is," Tohru said with a frown, "What kind of work have you done before that worked for hiding your identity?"
