Zev raised his eyebrows at her. "Are you really her aunt?" He asked inquisitively, cocking his head in that strange way of his. His caramel colored hair fell into his face a little.
Zev raised his eyebrows at her. "Are you really her aunt?" He asked inquisitively, cocking his head in that strange way of his. His caramel colored hair fell into his face a little.
"No, I'm not related to Tea or Harlin, that's just what she calls me," She replied, still smiling as she watched the little girl dash back off to her room. Thesa turned and walked back into the kitchen to grab her bottles as she talked, "I mean, I'm basically like an aunt to her though since I visit every so often and usually bring her gifts."
"Oh. But…why would she call you her aunt if you aren't really?" Zev asked. He really didn't understand this about humans. Why they called each other things that they weren't. "That isn't logical."
Thesa shrugged, "Because she doesn't have a biological aunt, and since I come bother her and Harlin every so often, I'm the closest thing she has to an aunt." She scooped up the container of food and the drinks before walking over to Harlin and poking his side, "Thanks for letting me come over, I'll be sure to bother you again sometime soon." Her tone of voice was sweet but it was clear she was joking around.
Harlin ruffled her hair and messed it up with a laugh, getting a scowl in return, "You're welcome little thief, behave and remember, don't do anything I wouldn't do."
Zev cocked his head, studying them as if they were an enigma again. "That doesn't make sense." He said to Thesa when she came back. "Why does she even want an aunt? And why an Aunt? Why not some other female "relative" like a cousin or…grandmother or something."
"Because I'm the correct age to be her Aunt?" She said as if it was an obvious thing, "I couldn't pass as her grandmother or cousin, and no, mother is off limits before you suggest that." With one final smile at Harlin, she opened the front door again and walked out, closing it behind Zev before heading back to the ship, "And in response to her wanting an aunt, you realize Harlin lives along right? When she gets older she'll want another woman in her life that can help her and understands what's going on."
Zev frowned slightly, thinking and turning her words over. "But couldn't she get that same information from anyone at all? Why does it have to be you?" He was trying to better understand the emotional attachments that humans seemed to form so easily.
"She could, but it would be really weird and uncomfortable, it just makes it easier if you have a bond already with someone you trust and can talk to." She shrugged and glanced over at him, trying to figure out if he was understanding her horrible way of explaining things while not completely sober.
Zev cocked his head again. "Hm. That…I suppose that does make sense. In a very human way."
Thesa shrugged and continued back to the ship, stopping in front of the now closed door and putting the code in so it would open, "Well, we are humans, so that would make sense."
Zev shrugged. "The human logic system isn't always logical. It is still affected by personal biases and emotions." He replied. "I simply had to factor for those."
"You mean you didn't factor for that before?" She asked, stepping into the ship and immediately walking to put everything down and open a bottle, "Would you mind closing the door when you step in also?"
"Nope." Zev replied. He closed the door. "I did not think to factor it. I suppose I had forgotten that human logic is… different."
Thesa nodded, "It's definitely different alright, because we don't think like machines." She started humming somewhat randomly as she selected a bottle and opened it up, walking off as she started on the first bottle she would drink that night.
Zev blinked, and tried to figure out if that was supposed to be a veiled insult. "My apologies." he finally said, standing still and watching her carefully.
"You don't have to watch me Zev, I'll be fine, go do something you want to do," She said, turning back around and seeing his watchful look as she took a drink, "I'll be fine without having an Android babysitter."
Zev blinked slowly. "I am not a babysitter. You are not a baby." he replied, blue eyes still watching her.
Thesa shrugged, taking another drink and leaning against the wall, "You're watching every move I make and looking out for me to do anything bad. That's the definition of a babysitter in my eyes. It doesn't matter if I'm a baby or not."
"But babysitter's official definition is quite different." Zev pointed out. "I am going by the official definition, not yours."
"Babysitter's official definition would be someone who quite literally would sit on a baby," She pointed out in return, "And I don't think you're going with that definition. Mine is the widely accepted definition of the word."
Zev thought for a moment. "I do see your point." he conceded, and sat down in one smooth motion. "However, if I sat on a baby, I would kill it. That was not the definition I was using."
Thesa shrugged, drinking some more, "You clearly said you were using its official definition, which is the definition I just gave you. And yes, sitting on children is very much not a good thing since you would kill it."
"Wrong." Zev replied. "Babysitter. noun: babysitter; plural noun: babysitters; noun: baby-sitter; plural noun: baby-sitters. Definition: a person who looks after a child or children while the parents are out. Example: "he couldn't find a babysitter"" He looked at her. "That is the official definition."
"Nerd," She muttered under her breath, rolling her eyes, "Whatever, you're acting like one right now though, treating me like a child and watching over me." Thesa stood up straight once again and turned, walking off and sipping her drink without another word.
Zev narrowed his eyes. "I am not a nerd. I cannot be. Nerds are human." he replied, shaking his head a little. He followed her after a moment.
