Descriptions are my THING. It gives me an excuse to use all the fancy flowery words I know-

flowery words are my absolute favorite but whenever I use them a lot in my freewriting I start reading over it and I'm like wow that sounds pretentious
so I start using normal words. read it over. now it's flat
big struggle

Yeah, I get that- sometimes I'll look back at what I wrote and just go "why did I use that word" or "why did I phrase it like that"

Is it strange to have full-on high fantasy creatures living alongside normal everyday creatures? Planning out the biodiversity of my world, and idk if I should start completely from scratch or just swap a few boring creatures for cooler ones.

I’m going to say no, it's not strange, because I had a similar idea for a story once. Still semi-working on it… Anyway it's your choice if you want to start over or not. Which “boring creatures” would you be swapping out?

Is there anyone who happens to know a stuff about frostbite? I've been researching as much as I can (for writing) while avoiding seeing graphic imagery, but that's a little difficult to dance around, so I can't get all the information I need. any help would be appreciated cuz if anything in my fictional writing isn't as realistic as possible I will go feral

Not really any pattern between which species get the boot, just vibes I guess. I was going to make new plants, herbivores and carnivores for some variety because if I stuck to what would naturally live in my world, I'd be talking about caribou and maybe the occasional wolf.

I'm just not sure where to draw the line- should I go all in and make up and name an entire ecosystem from scratch? Or should I just swap out bits and pieces that almost function the same, maybe with a niche or two swapped around. Always struck me as weird in worlds like WoF where dragons have been flapping around for centuries, and like, two species have adapted to deal with them-

Alright, so-
Frostbite usually affects extremities, AKA fingers and toes. Bodies tend to prioritize keeping the internal organs at a stable temperature, so hands and feet tend to get neglected temperature-wise. The cold stiffness also makes it a lot harder to flex your fingers and grab things, clench a fist, etc., so that could be used for tension or drama.
Frostbite damage CAN BE PERMANENT. Severe cases can cause gangrene - tissue death. At this point, the affected areas are beyond saving.
Spoiler warning: gross, graphic.

Lesser frostbites can still cause blisters and take a few days or weeks to fully heal.
A good home treatment for minor frostbite is soaking in warm (not hot) water. Also, some side effects could be increased risk of catching a cold and potential hypothermia.

Speaking of which, hypothermia is pretty much turbo frostbite. While frostbite tends to affect hands, feet, and maybe arms and legs, hypothermia affects the internal organs, which are SUPER sensitive to temperature changes. Frostbite is, for the most part, completely survivable. Hypothermia can kill a person in an hour.
Hypothermia is a lot scarier because once someone has it, they aren't really able to help themselves. It causes memory loss, general confusion, drowsiness, slurred speech, and hands become even less useful. Once someone with hypothermia loses conscious and/or stops shivering, it's pretty much over, since shivering is the natural response to keep the internals at a stable temperature.
Instead of wet warmth, the best home treatment is DRY warmth. Warm drinks help, too, but professional help is the best overall for both severe frostbite and hypothermia.

Currently trying to figure out how psych wards work for completely innocent non nefarious purposes that definitely don’t relate to a non canon scenario I want to write for a totally mentally stable character who definitely doesn’t happen to have trauma related to medical environments

Okay. Literally every single thing is monitored. Silverware at meals is plastic and counted, if even a single spoon is missing, they'll search the room and the patients. If they can't find it from a pat down, they'll take each person into a different room and have them strip. No strings in clothes, no hoodies, no dresses, no skirts. Bedrooms are open only at night or under special requests, and while someone is in them, they cannot be closed. Soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash, towels, and everything else needed for bathroom needs is monitored and given in small increments. All fabric of clothes, blankets, and pillowcases is paperish. There is very little time to call, and often visitors aren't allowed. Every morning, you have to fill out a sheet asking things like- "are you feeling suicidal today? How depressed are you today? Did you take your meds?" And turn it in. Only one meal option, with different ingredients for allergies sometimes. If the group goes to do something, everyone has to go. They have stupid "therapy" activities that don't really do anything, and the average stay is about a week unless you don't improve or parents refuse to pick you up. Any more details will have to be requested, as I can't think of any other basics rn…

So far, so alright-ish.

Working on tweaking the fantasy animals I already have before I make up some new ones and some plants to go with them. Debating on the name scheme and stuff, but for the most part it's redesigns and making them less "real animals but fancy" and more actually interesting creatures. Not sure how far I'll go, but I at least have to start.

do you guys think these are things you'd read?

novelle 1:
continually grumpy 15 year old, Amaya, amy (the most wonderful woman in the world) for short, has hyperacusis. a sensory disorder that causes her hearing to be extremely sensitive. she's never taken seriously as someone with a disability and is disregarded and bullied daily.
thomas is a fun loving immigrant from england, and considers amaya a dear friend, although he can't say he approves of her creepy friend jim. things start to change when weird things begin to happen around jim and amaya, and thomas doesn't seem too pleased about it.

novelle 2:
after a particularly close call in a place called 'the Keep', Marilious Merax makes his why home, injured and beaten.
and now, im sure you've heard of an 'out of body experience' but you must understand how shocking it is to come home and see your body on the floor, and your best friend and.. yourself, standing over it.
well, turns out this Marilious is the result of a cloning spell gone horribly wrong, and now it's his job to find and lead all the other clones before the original wipes them out.
after all, that's what he would do…
