Nyt chuckled. "Yeah. You were pretty scared." She turned to Caleb. "It's alright. Promise I don't bite." She said smiling.
Caleb slowly backed up. "I-I'm f-ine." He said, the words tumbling out of his mouth. He was panicking on the inside. He knew that if he tried to run either Abby or Nyt could catch him. "I feel like Hansel being invited into the witches house." He thought. The prospect looks good but it will turn on him.
Abby bit back a sigh at his stammer. He only did that when he was terrified and she knew why he was. She and Caleb had grown up on the same ”monster” tales about the ”alien invaders”.
There may be a way to convince him. It was risky and he would call her stupid for it but it might show how serious she was. Ever since the air changed, oxygen had gained a cultural significants. Kissing was not very common anymore. Of course, people still did but it had a greater weight to it considering the exposure to unbreathable air. Speaking without a mask on…
Taking a deep breath, Abby removed her mask completely from her face. ”Caleb, I know how scared you are. I was too at first but it's safe here. You can come in if you want. Nyt won't hurt you or me. If you choose to leave, we won't stop you but if you do, please just say that I'm safe and alive. Don't… tell… anyone about… Nyt. Promise me.” She was very lightheaded and starting to see little black spots dance across her vision by the end of her speech. Her hands fumbled a bit as she tried to put her mask back on.
"Abby!" Nyt said, panicking as she dropped the badges as she helped her put the mask back on.
Caleb was suprised when Abby took off her mask to say that. You didn't take off your mask unless you had to or it was important. It made it seem even more important than it already was seeing that they were in the presence of an alien. He sighed. "A-Alright. I'll come inside. I-If it''s still alright." Caleb said.
Abby had to remind herself not to take huge ”gulps” of air once her mask was in place. That would make it worse. At first, her breathing was shaky as she took 4 maybe 5 slow deep breaths.
”Thank you. I'm ok, I'm ok.” she said softly, though her head was spinning a bit. ”I just need to sit down.”
Caleb climbed in through the window. (Heathen!) He went over to check on Abby. "Deep breaths, Abby." He said.
Abby didn't respond past nodding yet though her breathing was becoming steadier. Another minute and she was back to a more normal state.
She didn't really know what to say yet but she smiled at Caleb for coming in.
Caleb smiled back. He warily looked at Nyt, still not completely sure of the situation.
Nyt sighed as Abby's breathing went back to normal. "Now let's patch up that leg." She said, having Abby sit back down on the couch.
”Ok.” Abby let Nyt take her back to the couch before looking at Caleb. ”I’m glad you decided to come in but next time; use the door.” She teased with a wink. ”Now, what are you doing all the way out here, Caleb?”
Nyt began to wrap Abby's leg. She figured she would let them speak to each other without her rambling.
"Scouting since you didn't come back," Caleb said, shifting uncomfortably. "Without a report, we couldn't make camp. People got worried. Since you didn't come back we thought there might be big animals or Aliens nearby." He said glancing at Nyt wrapping Abby's leg. "Well, they weren't wrong."
Abby's eyes widened before she facepalmed. ”I forgot about the report! I'm sorry Caleb. Between my leg and the storm, I wouldn't have been able to get back on my own. I know that’s not an excuse but…” She shrugged helplessly. ”Then Nyt found me hiding in her shed and let me stay the night.” She couldn't stop the faint blush at the memory.
"Well, what was I supposed to do? Leave you out there with a bleeding leg and in the cold shop." She asked as she finished wrapping it up.
"Seeing your circumstances I think it's a valid reason why you didn't come back." He said shrugging
”Hey, I'm not complaining here.” Abby smiled. ”It gave us an opportunity to talk. And, Caleb, I'm glad you understand.” Her expression turned thoughtful. ”You won't tell anyone about Nyt, right? Last thing we want is a raiding party to come to her house. I mean you can say that there is an Alien living nearby but…” Abby trailed off, running a hand through her hair.
Caleb thought over it a bit. He sighed. "I won't tell them," He said after a bit.
Nyt got up and walked off to put the supplies back away.
Abby visibly relaxed at Caleb’s words. ”Thank you. I owe you for this.” She paused for a minute before speaking again. ”I think it's time we try for peace, instead of fear.”
"Alright?" He said, not completely sure what she was talking about.
(Sorry It's so short I'm doing things.)
(It’s ok.)
Abby raised a brow. “I’m serious, Caleb. I don’t think we should have to fight anymore. The Sylvians had to leave their world because natural disasters made it unlivable. I admit I don’t know why they attacked us but…” She sighed. “I don’t know about you but I’m a little tired of letting our grandparents fear control our future.”
Caleb fiddled with his hands. "I don't know Abby. This one may be alright but what if the rest aren't." He asked.
Abby bit her lip at Caleb’s reasoning. He did have a point. ”I know it's a big risk but I… think I'm willing to take it. I'm not saying that I'm going to march straight into the center of the city and give the leader a hug. You know I'm not that stupid.” She joked, giving Caleb a playful shove on the shoulder. ”It’s going to be a long slow road but someone needs to take the first step.”
Caleb nodded. "I-I agree. We could try to start by slowly start introuncing people to Nut and then we can figure out to go from there." He reasoned.
Abby smiled with a small laugh. ”Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Might help that Nyt is interested in humans, especially our culture. We could learn a lot about each other. She actually has a pretty impressive collection of some human supplies.” She commented.
Caleb raised an eyebrow. "She does? What kind of stuff does she have?" He asked, some excitement in his eyes.
Abby smirked a bit. ”A lot. You kinda have to see it to believe it. I was blown away when I did.” she chuckled. ”I don't think she would mind showing off her collection again. We can ask her when she gets back.”
Caleb nodded and crossed his arms. "How did you two meet? I know you probably didn't walk up to her door and knock." He joked.
Abby blushed bright red, fidgeting with her hands. “No, I didn’t knock. The door to her shop was open. I know it was stupid but there were no other alternatives. I was planning on just hiding in dark corner for the night. I didn’t expect her to walk back in.”
There goes any respect for my abilities.
Caleb chuckled. "You hide in her shed?" He asked. "How much blood did you lose to make you think that was a good idea?"
