"Yes. We have robots that can help people with disabilities, both physical and mental. We have a guard like robots but they are really only used by small businesses." Nyt explained.
"Do you have any robot soldiers?" Caleb asked.
”That’s incredible!” Abby breathed with wide-eyes. Though hearing about the guard robots made her think that, even in general, the two species weren't really that different. Did the small businesses have to worry about Sylvian thieves since no human was dumb enough to even go to the city yet? At least as far as she knew.
She did cringe a bit at Caleb’s question despite wanting to know that as well. Abby had been trying to be delicate in asking that.
"Well, yes. But they aren't used often." Nyt said. "They were used when…we came here." She said, sinking into herself.
Caleb looked at the emotions in Nyt's demeanor and looked at the ground again.
Abby remembered what Nyt said about their arrival and seeing her withdraw like this was… It was almost like someone had placed a rock in her gut. Since she was being held anyway, it was easy to wrap her arms comfortingly around Nyt’s neck. ”It’s not your fault, Nyt. There may be nothing we can do to change what happened but it's part of our past now. All we can do is work on the future for both of our species.”
Nyt nodded. "Yeah. I guess you're right." She said, hugging back. Though she picked her up when she hugged her because of her height and it's uncomfortable to bend down like that.
Caleb nodded to himself. It will be alright. Things are changing.
Abby smiled at her friends. ”And here I was half prepared to explain what this gesture meant but seems like you already know.” She chuckled a bit with a slight blush at herself.
"It's just snuggling, right?" Nyt asked, confused. Why would she have to explain what snuggling was?
Caleb sat there smiling. Abby's falling head over heals from her.
“We call it a hug.” Abby explained. “We do this to comfort someone when they’re upset or … to…” She blushed again. “It’s also another way to show affection… like snuggling.” She didn’t make eye contact during the rest of her excuse. “I didn’t like seeing you upset like that. I wanted you to know that… that I’m here for you, I guess.”
Nyt's eyes widened. "Oh! Thank you then!" She said hugging her again. "I'm here for you too! Also, your blush is getting bigger."
Caleb snorted at the last comment and held back from laughing.
(At this point Caleb is just here to laugh at the shenanigans.)
(I can fix that.)
”Thanks Nyt. I guess I’d better get used to it huh?” Abby smiled, returning the embrace. Though her expression fell a bit when she heard Caleb.
”Shouldn’t you be getting back to camp so they know we're both alive and don't have to send the whole scouting party looking for us?” She said rolling her eyes.
Cale nodded. "You're right." He said standing up. "And don't worry. I won't tell them about Nyt."
Nyt raised an eyebrow. "Tell them?" She asked.
”Not every human is going to be ok with us being friends, Nyt. Some will just hear the word ”Alien” and want to hurt you… Even try to kill you. They won't care that you're friendly.” Abby sighed sadly. ”Some are still angry that you ”stole” our world. Caleb is going to keep this a secret so nothing bad happens to you. At least until we figure out a way to make them listen to us.” She promised.
Nyt's face went blank for a bit before nodding. "I understand." She said with a smile.
Caleb nodded at Abby. "What do I tell them about you?" He asked.
Abby bit her lip nervously. ”I’m not sure beyond saying I'm alive and safe. You're better at stories and reports than I am. I trust you anyway.” She knew that was kind of pathetic but she had always been a terrible liar.
Caleb nodded. He walked out of the shop and headed into the woods.
Nyt watched him go. "What now?" She asked.
Abby was also watching Caleb leave. Who knew when she would see another human again? Sure he was a little annoying but… Maybe he would visit sometime. It was for the best that he leave though. This way no one would come looking and she and Nyt could get to know each other better and by extension understand the others species more.
”I'm not sure.” she admitted. ”I guess we can go back inside and just talk some more.”
Nyt nodded. "That sounds good." She said lifting Abby up again. "You're so cute when your like this you know." She said with a smirk, lifting her up to eye level.
Abby couldn't help but laugh. ”So you’ve said.” She smiled, looking into Nyt’s violet eyes. ”Do all Sylvians have the same color eyes as yours?”
"No but my eye color is pretty common." Nyt explained. "What about your?" She asked.
”No, human eye colors vary as well. Green eyes aren't really anything super special but I think the shade of green is a bit more uncommon.” She admitted. ”What other colors do you have?”
Is this seriously the best conversation I could start right now?
"Most have blue or violet eyes, though some do have yellow or orange eyes but they look drown in the light." Nyt explained. "Our eyes are mostly these colors because of the less light we had on our planet."
Abby nodded, listening. ”You know among humans those are some pretty exotic colors. The most common ones for us are blue, green and brown… Though I don't think gray is uncommon either.” She raised a brow for a moment. ”Nyxis had less light? Oh, yeah, you did say it was further from the sun than Earth is.”
"Yeah. We would only get about 8 hours of sun where Earth usually gets around 14 hours of sun in the summer." Nyt explained as she walked towards the house.
”Wow! Does that mean you have really good night vision?” She bit her lip for a moment to keep from calling Nyt a kitty cat. ”How long does a standard day on Nyxis last, then?”
"Yes we do have good night vision and a standerd day on Nyxis lasted about 16 hours." Nyt explained.
