“No, no, little girl,” The way Vincent said it, Rigel’s blood boiled, “I’d just have a new game to play. I know who you are now.” And then time froze. Rigel struggled harder, newfound purpose, and he tried to slam the back of his head into Vincent’s. But his twin held tightly, and Rigel couldn’t stop him. Nothing could stop the mutant version of Rigel.
"Who says I'd be a game. I think it'd be easier to just get rid of me now and leave Rigel be." Enyln didn't want to shoot, she didn't want to upset Rigel. She didn't want to take a chance of hurting him too.
“Leave my brother be? Ha! What would be the point of chasing him across the country? I’ve always love the smell of his fear,” Vincent spat a glob of ooze onto Rigel’s face. He stiffened again, and Vincent put a cracked nail onto Rigel’s cheek and raked it down his face, blood and ooze mixing. Rigel just closed his eyes. He was dead, at least sentenced to it. Because if his twin, if the guy who shared DNA with Rigel, got sick, so would he.
“Drop the gun,” Vincent commanded with a snarl, “And then he’s free to go.”
Enyln let out a shaky breath and slowly put the gun down, "now. Let. Him. go." She was ready to lunge for the gun if he made and sudden moves, but she desperately hoped she wouldn't have to lunge for it, that Vincent would be true to his words.
Vincent shoved Rigel forward, and he stumbled a little, eyes still struck with fear. “I’ll see you later, brother~” Then Vincent was gone, already bounding down the field in another direction. Rigel stared at Enyln, his hand shaking.
"Are you okay?" Enyln's voice shook with a fear that didn't quite show on her face. "W-we need to move now. Before he changes his mind." She picked up Rigels pistol and handed it to him along with his bag.
Rigel didn’t take them, lifting a shaky hand to the cut Vincent had made on his face. Blood and ooze were on his hand when he pulled his hand back. Rigel forced himself to look at Enyln, “I’m infected.”
"No- no you're not. You could be immune." Enyln desperately looked for reasons he'd be fine, "my bag- I need something from it. Stay put." She spun around taking off towreds the barn. There may not be a cure, but gosh darn it if she didn't at least try something. Skidding to her knees she looked threw her bag ignoring the dead body's around her. alcohol, disinfect it. She'd found a bottle a while back and had been saving it for some thing like this. Grabbing the almost empty bottle she rushed back to Rigel out of breath and holding it out to him. "Disinfect, the wounds."
Rigel stared at the ground, trying to hide the absolute fear in his eyes, “Enyln, it’d be a waste. That ooze- I’m already infected. Vincent wasn’t immune, in fact I’ll probably turn into something like his,” Rigel’s hands started to shake furiously as he forced out, “It’d be better to kill me before I turn. Then you can make it to Paradis.” Because that dream was dead now, for Rigel. But not for Enyln.
"Gosh darn it Rigel!" Enyln shouted, "it wouldn't be a wast now take it! Please." She shook, "it probably isn't even from you- it could have been your brothers." push a way your fear. she forced the bottle into his hands knowing her own hands where shaking to much. "Please, Rigel. Please." She didn't know why she cared so much. Maybe it was because it'd been to long since some one had cared for her, maybe that was why. Or maybe she couldn't watch him turn into a monster. "Please." She whispered again.
Rigel couldn’t do it. He couldn’t hold in the tears. He furiously wiped at his face, but it seemed to just smear the blood and ooze and tears as he tried to get out, “Enyln, it’s already over, it’s-it’s pointless!” But Rigel wiped some alcohol on his face, for her, but he already knew it wouldn’t do anything. The gash on his face was too large, too much ooze got on his face. He didn’t have a chance.
"It is not pointless!" It couldn't be. Enyln wouldn't let it. "And gosh darn it Rigel if you turn then I'll kill you. But for now you're not. So get a hold of yourself!" its not over. Not yet. she remembered how the fight with her brother went. Shouting. Anger. She couldn't let it happen again. She knew she'd storm off. She knew there'd be a price if she did. "It isn't pointless."
“Enyln, I want to tell you how to get to Paradis, okay. Right now-“ When I still have time “-so you know how to get there. Travel west, there’s a specific constellation I can show you tonight.” Rigel told her, desperately trying to make her see that he was dead.
"Rigel, no. I will not go with out you. And I know it seems stupid but I care about what happens to you, so stop freaking out." Enyln knew she was shaking, but she couldn't feel it. "I can't watch you die." I can't watch someone I care about die again. she faught back the tears by clenching her hands and digging her nails into her palm. That's what it'd come to, fighting pain with more pain.
As much as Rigel desperately wanted to tell her the truth -to tell her that he loved her- he couldn’t, because that’d only make things worse. So he hardened his features, and turned away from her -because he’d never be able to look at her and say these things- and began, “Leave me alone, Enyln. Can’t you see? I’m trying to get you off my back already. I don’t want to carry you across the country, I don’t want anything to do with you.” Gosh, it was so d-mn hard to spit out those last words, but he did. I just have to break ties with you, I just have to let you get to Paradis on your own.
Enyln froze. Anger rose up in her head. But not for Rigel, for herself. How could she have let herself get so attached. "I-" she stopped feeling the tears run down her face. It happened again. She thought someone cared for her, but they didn't, And it broke her to realize that.
“I’ll show you the constellation tonight and then you can get out of my life,” Rigel kept his tone even and cold, but this- he was cracking on the inside. This was worse than being infected and dying.
(I've been stalking this since the start and I just. I guess I don't need my heart sobs)
(bows
But also, thanks so much for stalking, I feel appreciated lol)
(XD Y'all are both amazing writers and there's no point where I'm not on the edge of my seat)
(Awe thanks friend. <3 )
Enyln's shoulders slumped as she spoke, "no that's alright. I'll just go back to my rust bucket city." it was as if the small hope she'd had inside of her died. As if that small plant had been ripped out routes and all. Leaving nothing but a black hole, the same feeling she'd had watching her brother die. But this time, she wasn't sure if it'd grow back. "Sorry for wasting your time. Have a happy life." She stiffled a sob and turned her back and walked away.
Rigel whirled walking after her, “No, you’re going to Paradis,” He said strictly. She can’t go back to that wretched city, “It’d have been a waste of my time if you went back.” Gosh what have I done? Rigel reached a shaky hand out at her, but forced himself to jerk it down before she could see.
"Why do you care where I go Rigel!" Enyln spun around to glare at him. "Why did you care if I came along after my leg? After we faught?" Tears of anger streamed down her face leaving trails. "Why do you still care!" Her face grew hot with anger as she staired him down.
“I love you Enyln, that’s why I care!” Rigel shouted back before he could stop the words. He closed his eyes for a quick breath, then turned, “You know what, fine, I don’t care if you go back or not.” He forced himself to take a step away from Enyln, forced himself to recollect his cold exterior.
"Well screw you to Rigel!" Enyln turned so she was facing him. Her face a slight shad of pink and tears streaking down it. "I should have never came with you in the first place!" She sucked in a sharp breath finally admitting it, "I only came because it was my brothers stupid dream!"
