"I was raised by my parents," said Silver, "But they were killed suddenly in a Hunter attack."
"I was raised by my parents," said Silver, "But they were killed suddenly in a Hunter attack."
Aurelius chuckled. "So you get it, then… I'm sorry you had to know such pain, too."
Septima listened in, not wanting to say anything else, lest she cause more trouble or dredged up bad memories.
"I get it too.." said Skye, "I lost my mom to a hunter attack.."
"Yeah but you have good reason to think she's still out there." said Silver,
"True… but I didn't know that till after I ran into Alex and Sirus.."
Septima shifted uncomfortably. She hadn't lost anyone that close to her at this point in her life.
"I'm sorry… This all just sounds terrible to go through…"
Aurelius stopped Skye. "Wait, so you have a possible lead on your mother's location? If she's still alive, that's brilliant."
"Unfortunately we don't…" said Skye, "All we know is that she disappeared after an attack on my kid siblings. You see my siblings and I, minus Romero and Comet, we're all related by mother's blood. And we know for a fact, from more than one source, that she survived the attack on on my siblings… but no one has seen her since then."
"Well, I wish you the best of luck with that, then. I hope you find her some day," Aurelius said.
Septima sat cross-legged close to the fire to warm herself. She watched Silver cook his catch over the fire.
Silver relaxed, watching the flames as their dinner cooked.
"Smells good," Aurelius said, "Don't remember when my last real meal was… They tossed us some bread occasionally, but it wasn't much, and it wasn't often."
"Well Silver's cooking is renowned among our group." said Skye watching him as he dusted the meat with some kind of powder.
"Good to know," Aurelius replied, "It'll definitely be a welcome change."
Septima had turned to stare at Aurelius. He had lost even more weight… She shuddered a bit. No telling what would've happened if he was in there any longer.
Silver soon served up the food, portioning out the meat he'd caught onto several plates he pulled out of his satchel.
Aurelius was salivating, absolutely ravenous from having only enough food to sustain him for several weeks. Septima eyed him carefully.
"I know what you're thinking. Eat slowly, kiddo. You'll make yourself sick otherwise. I know you're hungry…" she said.
"I second that," said Silver with concern, "Don't rush it.."
Aurelius bit down on his lip, trembling a bit. "I… I know that…"
"Yeah, okay," Septima murmured, "But I reserve all rights to stop you and help you pace yourself."
Aurelius nodded, taking two plates from Silver and passing one to Septima. It took every ounce of his willpower to not just wolf down the food in front of him.
Silver nodded approvingly at Aurelius as he slowly ate his share.
Aurelius got to maybe halfway through his food, then stopped when he started to feel slightly sick.
"It's very good, Silver… I don't think I can finish, though."
Septima sighed. She felt so bad about everything that had happened here. She would have cried, but no… not in front of these strangers… and certainly not in front of Aurelius. That would just make him feel bad for being captured.
Silver nodded, stopping partway through his, not wanting to push it, or make Aurelius feel too out of it. Skye took a look at both of them. "No offense but I'm hungry" he said taking both their plates and polish them off.
Aurelius let out a slight laugh. "That's alright… It'd be a shame for it to go to waste."
He tucked his knees up to his chest and sat like that for a few minutes while waiting out a few waves of nausea that passed over him. Septima scooted a little closer to make sure he was alright once she finished her meal.
"Thank you for the meal," she said to Silver, dipping her head in gratitude.
Silver smirked, "Anytime"
Skye flopped back, "We'll we should probably relax for the night," he gestured to the setting sun, "There's no way we can be found by those guards for now."
"Yeah, I can take watch for a bit if it makes you guys more comfortable," Septima offered.
"I could too…" Aurelius said, "I've been sleeping a lot in that cell. Besides, I feel kind of bad right now, and I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep."
Skye shook his head, "I'll take first watch, You can take second Septima, and-" he was cut off by Silver, "I'll take third"
"Alright," Septima agreed, "Wake me up whenever you're ready."
Aurelius sighed and leaned with his back against one of the trees. "I'll do my best to rest, I suppose…"
"Please do. You should try to get your strength back. You're going to need it."
"Right" said Skye, shifting to take up his post.
Septima pretty easily fell asleep, and drifted into deep, dreamless blackness. Aurelius, on the other hand, tried to sleep, but he was restless and uncomfortable. He drifted off briefly on occasion, but mostly he couldn't seem to get any rest.
Silver lay back, happy to let Skye take watch, and happy to let the moonlight wash over him, restoring his lost strength.
