"Alright, then," Septima said. She helped Aurelius up first, then followed.
"God, but they're persistent," she muttered.
"Alright, then," Septima said. She helped Aurelius up first, then followed.
"God, but they're persistent," she muttered.
"Who?" asked Silver, "The guards?" a crash and a surge of aura emphasised that, "Or me and Skye?" Andother surge of aura and some guards screaming in emphasis.
Septima laughed. "You two… It's quite admirable, really. I appreciate that you were both so willing to help us, too."
Aurelius looked back over his shoulder. "I think they might see us," he muttered, "Careful there."
Silver padded off down the tunnel, stopping for just a moment at the edge, "Septima, I need you to shield us from any overhead attacks" he said before launching himself towards the trees.
"What, like arrows and stuff? I can probably smite them out of the air," Septima replied, "Hopefully this forest is thick enough that we'll lose them soon, though."
Silver growled in response as he tore across the feild not paying any attention to the arrows that were fired on them.
Septima clenched her jaw with effort as she cast a small bolt of light towards and incoming arrow. It burned and crumbled away, but she was afraid sending light up was ust like setting off a flare. She instead created a shield hovering over Silver, Aurelius, and herself. This would take up more energy, but hopefully that wouldn't matter.
Silver suddenly burst into the forest, picking up speed as he ran. he lept over roots and logs as he ran further, running away from the sound of hoofbeats behind them.
Once Septima saw there were no more arrows, she lifted the shield and cast a wall of blazing light behind them to block off the path of the horses.
"That should hold them off a bit. We got a destination in mind?"
"Nope!" said Silver, leaping over a large log.
Suddenly there was another flash of light and a violet and silver furred wolf pulled alongside SIlver.
"Hey Skye!" said Silver,
Skye barked in approval then pulled ahead to open a major portal.
"Oh, hey! You're back," Septima said, "Wait, what are you doing?"
Aurelius, meanwhile, was mostly quiet and barely hanging onto Silver. He could only hope they all knew what they were doing, for he was nearly powerless to help.
"Creating a portal outta here now get going!!" said Skye mentally, trying not to let on how exhausted he was.
Silver lept through without hesitation, watching as Skye followed.
In the blink of an eye they were suddenly in a great oak forest, Silver skidded to a stop, his chest heaving as he gasped for air.
Skye loped in shortly after Silver, a little out of breath he grinned. "Nothin' like a chase to get the blood pumpin'!"
Septima got off of Silver, and brought Aurelius with her to lighten his load.
"That's one way of putting it, Skye. Nice work. We're safe here? Where even are we?"
Aurelius smiled slightly. "Who cares…? You showed them."
"I don't know and I don't care" said Silver, shifting to human form and clearly still exhausted.
"As long as we can rest here…" Aurelius agreed, "I didn't even exert myself much, and I can still barely move."
"Well, I suppose… If we stop here, I can maybe hunt and find something for the two of you to eat. They can't have fed you well in prison."
Aurelius shook his head. "Not at all. Wouldn't be so weak otherwise."
"Leave the hunting to me" said Silver, "You three rest, Especially you" he said to Skye.
"You've been locked up and unfed. I've got a crossbow. It'll be easy," Septima countered, "I've hardly exerted any energy in the first place."
She took out her weapon and held a bolt in one hand.
"I haven't been locked up for as long as your friend" said Silver, "and I'm half wolf so it won't take long."
"If you insist," Septima sighed, "How long were you in there? Both of you?"
"Not sure," Aurelius replied feebly.
"Not more than a moon for me" said Silver, before shifting and loping off into the woods.
"I think I was in there at least two weeks ahead of him," Aurelius said, "Maybe up to four. I lost track."
Septima shook her head. "Why didn't we know sooner?"
"We were supposed to be going on some sort of mission. How were you supposed to know I'd been betrayed?" Aurelius snapped, irritated that his friend would blame herself.
"I suppose… And I've been looking for you for about two weeks now. I just didn't get any sort of lead until I met Skye."
Skye sighed, "You gotta know where to look for this stuff."
"That's the problem. I didn't know, and his trail was cold. I was slow to react because I didn't know he had been captured, nor did I really consider it a possibility. He was with one of our nonmagic 'friends.' I thought she would convince them that he was magicless, should they encounter trouble on the road. Turns out she was the one" Septima said, "I should have been more attentive."
"Oh, stop that," Aurelius snarled, "You can't pin that on yourself. You're not the one who put shackles over my wrists and threw me to the stone floor of a prison cell."
"I might as well have been. I had some bad feelings going in, but I let you go anyway."
"Couldn't have stopped me."
"Hey," Skye sat down, mostly so his legs wouldn't buckle on him, "He's out and that's all that matters right now"
"He's right," Aurelius grumbled, "I'm beyond grateful that I was rescued at all, and that you cared enough to save me. You could've been captured too."
Septima sighed. "I guess… I just… I always feel like I can be better for the sake of you guys, but then I'm not."
