“How are you feeling?”, Fae asked softly, setting the card down as her eyes brimmed with silent concern.
"Uh, sore." Sabine said with a small chuckle. "You might not believe it, but I've been through worse. I'm just sorry that Dagger got away. I really wanted to keep you two out of this. I'm sorry."
“Sorry?!”, Fae said incredulously. “Why on Earth are you sorry? You got stabbed in the side for Gods sake!” She set the cake down in the bed.
Sabine smiled. "Yeah, I got that. I didn't see the knife until he stabbed it into my side. But, I heal faster than most, which is why I'm still alive."
Fae smiled wryly. “That’s good, I suppose. Hungry?”, she asked, indicating to the cake.
(You can choose what kind it is$)
Sabine smiled brightly at the vanilla cake with light white frosting and strawberries decorating it, sitting on the bed. "Oh yes please!"
Macha smiled, cutting it into equal pieces.
Cruz sort of hovered by the doorway. He felt extremely out of place, mentally distant.
Fae waved him over, offering him some cake.
"Hey Cruz, come in." Sabine told him.
He stiffly approached, forcing a smile. But his eyes kept down and glassy.
Fae tilted her head, concerned. “Hey, Cruz. What’s wrong?”, she murmured to him, pulling him aside gently.
He shook his head, feeling the blood drain from his face in vulnerability. He just kept shaking his head. He couldn't understand why this was so hard, but he found it impossible to try and shape his thoughts into coherent words. "Later, later…" he insisted.
Fae gave him a light hug. “Only when you feel comfortable.” Her voice overflowed with worry for her—well, more than a friend.
He returned the faint hug, exhaling a labored breath.
Walking back to Sabine, her mind split with concern for her new friend and her… love interest. “When are they letting you out of the hospital?”, she asked.
Cruz sat down in one of the chairs, a bit aways.
"I'm not sure. The doctors want me here for at least forty-eight more hours to watch me, y'know, make sure that I'm really going to be okay. But I will be in a wheelchair for a few weeks, at least. He fractured my spinal cord. Not enough to paralize me permanently, so, silver lining!" She gave the other three a smile and two thumbs up.
Cruz half laughed, seeming to feel a little better now. "You really did a number on my leather jacket," he joked softly.
"Yeah, sorry about that." Sabine smiled. "I can get you a new one if you'd like."
"No, it's alright." He dismissed, "It's not your fault at all,"
Sabine nodded. "Okay. I'm sorry for any discomforts that I caused you guys. That man……….he's not a good person. He hunts down people who are………..special like Macha, Fae, and I. Then he kills us of like we're pests, just insects that plague the earth." She frowned.
"Should… I be concerned he might return?" His voice became quiet.
"He might, but not for about two weeks. He has this…….pattern, I guess. He'll go to some other city to gloat about how awesome he is, kill other targets, then he circles back around. It's complicated." She explained.
Cruz looked at Fae, and Macha, and for a brief second terror flickered under the glaze of chocolate eyes. "Huh." He swallowed.
