He nodded smally, "Yes, maa'am." He answered in a drawn out breath.

Fae looked back to Sabine apologetically, checking the time. “Our visitation time is over anyways, let’s get you home.”, she said to Cruz, giving Sabine a light hug.
Sabine smiled. "Thanks for visiting. I means a lot."
Macha gave her a squeeze as well. “Anytime. We’ll be back soon.”
Cruz pushed himself limply to stand, parting his jaws in a massive yawn. "Seeya later.." he waved.
They left the building, silent. Macha and Fae walked over to Faw’s house together, Macha breaking the silence with “It’s your birthday tomorrow!“
Cruz lifted his sinking eyes, sputtering a half-awake "Who?"
Macha grinned. “Fae turns 16 tomorrow.”
He smiled, "Oh, yeah… that's right.." he laughed tiredly, hooking arms lamely with Fae. Well, now she could feel how unsteady he was, like he was drunk off exhaustion.
“Come on, let’s get you home.”, she smiled up at him. He was cute when he was sleepy, almost as if he was drunk.
"Mm." He almost giggled. "I have a question for you."
Fae grinned, leaning into him as her heart beat happily. “And that is?”
"Do you think sand is called sand because it's between the sea and the land?"
Macha snorted, giving the two lovers some space as Fae doubled over with laughter. “I don’t know Cruz, maybe?”, she giggled as her eyes shone contedly. “Hey, um Cruz?”, she asked, suddenly a bit nervous. “Are you free tomorrow night?” Her face flushed pink as her heart quickened in anticipation.
"Yeah," he spoke, voice softening happily. "Yes I am." He smiled widely.
Fae could have summersaulted with glee. “Do you— do you want to go out for dinner with me?”, she almost squeaked.
"Without a doubt," he answered surely, "Can we go to that tapas restaurant in town?" He grinned, "It's Spanish." Oh, okay– he wanted to show off his home culture.
Yesss, Macha congratulated her friend silently on her success, pretending to see a text and then calling out that she had to leave to give the two some alone time.
Fae felt ridiculously happy as she looped one arm around Cruz’s waist, bursting with anticipation for tomorrow. She grinned. “Great! Nice choice Cruz. Say, 6pm?” Her muted British accent suddenly became very pronounced, as it usually dud when she was flustered but happy.
He brought a hand to her arm that sailed around him, "Good for my schedule,"
Fae beamed, stretching the freckles that dotted her nose and cheeks. “And, um, Cruz? Sorry about my behavior yesterday.”, she apologized, recalling the disappointment in his eyes all too well.
He glanced off to the side for a second, and back, "There's a reason for everything I guess. No worries," he aleved.
“Thanks, Cruz.”
(Wanna skip to the next day?)
Yes please! )
The next morning, Fae left the bakery a little late as a result of her happy-birthday breakfast, stomach full and a ridiculously wide smile plastered on her face. Im sixteen today!, she thought excitedly.
Cruz was awake already and at the pottery shop, despite having the day off; he mostly wanted to just update Augustus on everything that was happening.
"You what?" August squinted at Cruz, turning from dusting unsold pottery to wonder if this was the same swashbuckling teenager he hired.
"Kissed her. And saved some other girl from iminent death," he clarified proudly, "I'm having dinner with Fae tonight,"
"Hot damn," August mumbled in surprise. "Good for you, man," he chuckled.
