I've found that roleplaying helps me practice giving characters a realistic and approachable personality and helps gather opinions and ideas. Who's up to join?

@blue_topaz

Hello :D

I'd like to join!

My character is named Fae, and she has shoulder-length bubblegum pink hair and slightly undersized turquoise and buttery yellow wings, which makes it a bit awkward for her to fly. She is 13, and has a very bubbly, cheeky personality. Her favorite hobby is making clay dragons, so she carries little packets of brightly colored Fimo and Sculpey clay around everywhere she goes. Fae's eyes are a light hazel color, and her Talisman (a magical object designed to harness the magic powers everyone where she lives has but cannot use without a Talisman to focus them) is a little spray-bottle filled with clear, chocolate scented liquid that when sprayed on her hands, awakens her ability to give life to her clay figures. She is always wearing mismatched socks and colorful but fashionable clothes with minimal jewelry. (@Lil-Owl, you might recognize her in the Roleplay where you're Peter, I'm going to start weaving her into Macha's backstory soon)

(Hey! Good to see you again!)

Mine for this roleplay is a non-magical guy named Augustus Ponticelli (August/Auggie, for nicknames). His family is from Glasgow, Britain, but he and his brother Marion moved to the United States. He has auburn, tossed-wavy hair and light freckles, and leafy green eyes. His favorite outfit is usually a 1940's-esque suit and suspenders, and is a complete retrophile for World War 2 things. He owns and works in an arrisan pottery shop, and for the most part lives a peaceful life. He's gregarious enough to be approachable, but isn't overbearing; he's just a very nice nerd. Who also likes to tease his brother, because what sibling doesn't tease their other half?

( any suggestions for setting? )

@blue_topaz

Fae walked, delighted, into the quaint pottery shop, after weeks of wondering about it but never having the time to stop by. The unique earthy-wet smell of clay filled her lungs as she took a deep breath in and looked around at the pleasant little shop, spinning on the heel of her tan ankle-boots.

(could you please describe the shop?)

@KalamariCakes

('Course!)

The building was small, but a cozy small. Similar comfort to a cabin. The walls were a warm shade of stained wood, and smelt of-other than the petrichor-esque earthy scent of clay- sweet cedar and hints of aerosol scented spray. The ailsed couldn't be longer than four meters at the least, stuffed to the edge with pots, bowls, candle holders, candle melters, youname it- of every shade of glaze and aesthetic texture, glimmering, some scintillating, in the warm lights of the shop.

The fragrant air carried the whistle of an auburn-haired man relaxed at the cashier, ankles propped on the glass counter and his rear kept up by a coshioned stool- the wall provided his backrest. His eyes followed the lines of a World War 2 novel.

*Am I allowed to join? If I am, my character is Haydin York. He is currently a he, but he can be a she or non-binary whenever he feels like it. He has bright reddish/pink hair with lavender at the ends. He is usually seen in hoodies and leggings in all genders. He has a silver chain with a piece of natural, unpolished, teal sea glass on the end held on by silver wire. He has an addiction to sugar and high carb food, but he is slim because he has some self control. He is about 5 foot 7 inches and has a medium body frame. He has eyes the colour of honey, but tries to cover them by the hood of his hoodie because he thinks people might think they are weird. He has two personalities. One is his happy side that usually comes out in female form. This is the one that likes candy, rainbows, unicorns, sports, sun, is typically an extrovert and all that sort of stuff. Then there is the darker side that comes out more in a male form. This one likes grey, black, and darker type of things. This side is more introverted, and prefers it to be raining. There is no warning which one he is at any type of the day so you'll have to deal with any of them. It is pretty hilarious when he likes unicorns in male form. He will judge people sometimes and usually keeps most of his true feelings locked away. He is a great secret keeper and liar but he absolutely sucks at cooking and public speaking. So, this is my character and although he needs work and I wrote entirely too much, am I allowed to join?

@blue_topaz

(welcome!)

Noticing the auburn-haired man, Fae slipped her tan peacoat partway off her shoulders, stretching her wings and twirling the single streak of cyan hair amongst pink around her finger. Walking towards him, she opened her mouth to speak, but a vase on one of the shelves caught her attention, and she found herself being pulled towards it. At first glance, it was just a pretty lilac vase, but upon examination, Fae found hat the exterior was covered in a swirling pattern of glossy, gold-tipped scales, and perched at the mouth of the vase was a quirky little dragon, with small wings and a long tail arched so that it acted as a handle. She smiled, fingering her own little dragon pup, sleeping in her jacket pocket. Turning back to the man at the cash register, she cleared her throat politely. "Is Mr. Ponticelli available at this moment?"

@KalamariCakes

His eyes lifted up in recognition, "Oh, that's me," he smiled, bringing his feet off the counter to the floor. "How can I help you, ma'am?" He set the closed book aside.

@blue_topaz

(Btw, Fae likes fashion and is petite and shortish, and has a slight British accent)
(also, can it be late March/early April?)
Suddenly nervous, Fae was glad for the wedges of her boots, as they gave her extra height. Touching on the blooms of her clay flower earrings, she smiled in acknowledgement of his polite manner and introduced herself. "I'm Fae Bonnerly, sir, and I was wondering if you were hiring?" She posed it as a question. "I-I'm almost 14, and I…" She trailed off sheepishly. Raising her eyes shyly, she continued. "My mum says I need a job, and, well, she's got her eye on the local supermarket. I would much rather work in a place like here than at a cash register all day, so…. I thought I'd give asking a try." She clasped her hands behind her back hopefully, feeling a slight tickle as Smudge the dragon shifted drowsily in her pocket.

@blue_topaz

(oh, and also I forgot to mention this: Fae's parents moved from Reading, England, where they met to Niagara Falls, Canada, where they had her, but eventually moved right across the falls to Niagara Falls, New York, when Fae's father Ben Bonnerly found a job there wen Fae was 11. He now owns his own little bakery with Fae's mother, Evelyn (or "Ellie") Bonnerly (called "Bonnerly's Bakery"), where his wife also sells paintings she makes and occasionally various clay objects made by Fae.)

@KalamariCakes

Awesome! Okay. And yeah, it can be around that time )

He leaned forward when he noticed her nervousness, pffering a patient demeanor to quell her. "Of course! Yeah, um.. well. Let me go find the forms, but.. yes! I'm more than happy to invite another worker!" His voice rang cordially, curled with a thicker, but similar accent tp Fae.

@blue_topaz

Fae almost melted with relief. "Thank you!" she replied, glowing with happiness.

All of a sudden, a tiffany-blue dragon shot out of her jacket pocket, accidentally hitting Mr. Ponticelli right between the eyes. "Smudge!" Fae yelled anxiously, leaping forward to snatch the mischievous creature out of the air. "I'm so sorry, sir!" Fae brushed the hair out of her face, flustered. "He-He's a baby, he—" she cut herself off, cradling the tiny clay dragon pup in her hands. "I'm so sorry! I-it won't happen again, he's newly hatched, a-and he gets scared alone," she gulped, blushing, "so I thought I'd bring him with me b-but he's not he best at flying yet—- I'm so sorry sir!" Tears were threatening to spill down her face. She couldn't lose this job.

In her small soft hands, the little turquoise dragon licked her thumb, concerned about his mama and very sorry for whatever he'd done this time.

@KalamariCakes

He exclaimed with surprise, blinking when the small creature struck his face. Though the impact stung a little, he was more concerned for keeping the poor girl from having an anxiety attack. "Hey, hey, it's okay, ma'am. It's okay, take a deep breath," he reassured her, "You mesnt no harm, so I hold no grudges." He soothed, "Do you want anything to eat or drink? I have some cinnamon and sugar bread rolls and water in the back. And the other worker here should be back there too," he offered to help get her mind off the incident.

@blue_topaz

Blissfully relieved, she slipped the now-sleeping Smudge back into her pocket, feeling his warm, still clay-textured scaled leave her hand. "Thank you very much, sir, but I've already eaten.", she politely declined, smiling a little as she felt Smudge nestle deeper into her pocket. "I would like to meet your other worker, though, if it's no trouble."

@KalamariCakes

"No problem at all," he dipped his head, making his way towards a chipping cherry painted door and opening it, to a bright tiled room stained every which way with clay and glaze. Another boy, who couldn't be more than 16 or 17 was hunched over the spinning wheel to form a pot of somesort. Wet clay stained up all the way to his elbows, and splattered in some other places, even a bit in his dark walnut hair.

"That's Cruz," Augustus commented above the loud hum of the spinning wheel, "Immigrated from Spain with his sister recently," he filled her in with the details.

@KalamariCakes

He looked up, looking briefly between her and Augustus with chocolate eyes, "Hey. I'd shake your hand, but, y'know." He grinned, lifting up his clay-soaked hands.

"He thinks himself a big joker." August rolled his eyes in amusement.

"Cos I am. Your jokes just suck," Cruz teased with a smirk.

"Mhm. Remember I pay you." August picked back.

@blue_topaz

Fae grinned at the pair's easygoing relationship (not the romantic type, I didn't misinterpret it don't worry), worrying about how she would fit it. Mr. Ponticelli explained to Cruz how she would be working here, starting tomorrow, once she filled out the form.

"What time in the morning should I come tomorrow?" Fae asked as he handed her the form.

@KalamariCakes

"Ahm, around ten should do. I try my best to make a nice, easy transition with time schedules so I don't seem like an aching orifice."

"No, you mean pain in the [behind]," Cruz corrected teasingly.

"Oh, shutup or go back to Spain where they can put up with you," August slugged his shoulder, Cruz sticking out his tongue at him.

Anyhow," August resumed, "My phone number's on the paper, so if you need to reach me, I'm pretty available,"

( hope you dont mind my method of censoring curse words? Lol )

@blue_topaz

(lol, not at all :D)

"Great!", Fae smiled, signing the paper. "Oh, and, are my dragons allowed in here?", she asked, hoping she didn't sound rude. "They get lonely back at home."
