“I know that it seems difficult for you to do that, but I really don’t mind at all. As your best friend and boyfriend, I want to be able to provide for you,” Vaughn soothed softly. He gave Kaz’s hands a gentle squeeze as he met he gaze.
"But you…You shouldn't have to," Kaz insisted, only able to hold Vaughn's gaze for a few moments before going back to staring down at his lap. He was just so used to taking care of others, he had forgotten how to let people help take care of him. Hell, he wasn't even sure if he knew how to take care of himself anymore
(Sorry for not answering, I’m updating Vaughn’s character profile on here)
“You’re right, I don’t have to. But I want to help you. I was alone for a while, y’know? And it feels good for me to have someone to take care of. It feels right,” Vaughn explained softly.
(np. that reminds me, I still have to update a bunch of Kaz's stuff lol)
Kaz sighed again, biting the inside of his cheek. "I…I'm sorry," he mumbled, not knowing what to say. Stop apologizing, damn you. Either stand up for yourself or let them walk all over you, stop going back and forth, his mind hissed
(Lol so fun)
“It’s okay, baby. You don’t need to apologize, I understand why your anxious about this. I should be saying sorry, if I’m pressuring you or anything,” Vaughn soothed. He let go of one of Kaz’s hands, placing his hand on the side of Kaz’s face lovingly.
"No, no, you're not pressuring me or anything, I promise," Kaz immediately responded, looking up at Vaughn with wide eyes. anxiety curling in his chest. "I…I'm just not used to people helping me, y'know?" he admitted. He went to elaborate, but winced slightly as Kaon began to scream in his mind. Don't tell him, you fucking idiot. He'll fucking leave you like everyone else because you scared them off with your idiotic sob stories.
Starting tomorrow, I'll be gone for two weeks because I'm going on a trip. Feel free to move around my characters, but don't kill them or anything, okay? Don't let the rp die while I'm gone. Thanks and adios!
“I know, baby.. But that’s going to change now, okay? I’ll always be here for you, I promise,” Vaughn said in a light tone, giving Kaz’s hand a gentle squeeze. He meant what he said. He wanted to have someone to provide for, it made him feel like he had more of a family again.
Kaz nodded, taking a deep breath as he looked down at their hands. "Okay. Okay, yeah," he mumbled, more to reassure himself than anything. His mind had calmed a little, the screams reducing to quips and sneers. He knew he would probably try to convince himself this conversation never happened after it was over, that he would be fine and it wouldn't matter as soon as he had his medication. But he knew Vaughn probably wouldn't let him forget, and if he was being honest, he probably needed Vaughn to not let him forget
Vaughn decided that was enough for now. He didn’t want to overwhelm Kaz too much at the time. Maybe he would ask more about Kaz’s depression at a different time. “How about we go make the food?” He suggested, brushing his thumb along Kaz’s lower lip affectionately.
Kaz nodded, leaning slightly into the touch without realizing it. At the moment he would love to curl up in a ball of blankets and never come out, but he had promised Vaughn barbeque. He sat there for a moment longer, enjoying Vaughn's touch too much to want to get up just yet
“We can cuddle after dinner, alright? Maybe I can even give you a massage, I’ve been told that I’m good at it,” Vaughn offered, continuing to rub his thumb lightly along Kaz’s lower lip.
"That'd be…great, actually," Kaz chuckled, his lip tingling ever so faintly as Vaughn ran his thumb across it. If he hadn't just gone through a vaguely emotional confession, he might have licked Vaughn's thumb just for the hell of it
“Good. Let’s go make this food now,” Vaughn said with a gentle smile, his hand leaving where it was rested on Kaz’s cheek. He got up, waiting for Kaz with his arms loosely folded.
Kaz got to his feet, hoodie riding up on his stomach as he stretched. He yawned a little before rubbing at his eyes, smiling up at Vaughn as he began to lead him towards the kitchen. "I've gotta go grab the grill from Cas, which should only take me a min-" He was cut off by a knock at the door, and he made a look of faint confusion as he walked towards it
Vaughn stayed where he was, glaring at the door warily. If Kaz wasn’t expecting someone, then it had to be someone bad, right? Find something, Finley. Defend yourself, the whispers hissed, and his eyes flicked around. He spotted what he wanted, stepping to the side to where sharp knives were stuffed into a knife block.
Kaz got onto the tips of his toes to look through the door's peephole, a smile working its way across his face as he reached down to open the door. A short, dark-skinned boy in a large, fluffy overcoat bounded in, holding a large basket of what looked like different barbeque foods as he hopped up onto the back of the couch. "Hiya, monsieur Kaz! Cas said to give this to you," he said, grinning widely as he held the basket up to Kaz. He laughed, taking the basket and ruffling the boy's dark, messy hair.
"Thanks, Mikah. That's really nice of you."
Vaughn watched the boy with confusion, his hand moving away from the knives to rest on the counter instead. How had Cas known? He clenched his jaw as he waited, foot tapping on the floor of the kitchen.
Mikah slid off the back of the couch, grinning up at Kaz. "Oh, oh! Cas wanted me to ask if you wanted the grill, too," he added, jumping excitedly from foot to foot. Kaz nodded, shifting the basket to one hand as he smiled.
"Yeah, I was actually just about to go grab it from him." At that the child's grin fell to a frown, which almost looked threatening considering the two pointed canines jutting out from his bottom jaw.
"No, you've gotta sit down, monsieur Kaz! Grandma says you have bad bones, and that means you can't carry heavy things," he protested, and before Kaz could stop him he was bounding out the door and towards the elevator. Kaz sighed, running a hand through his hair as he watched Mikah disappear
“Who is that boy?” Vaughn thought to ask, arching a dark brow at Kaz. He was leaning back against the counter, fingers on one hand still twitching slightly as the whispers still tried to talk him in to getting a knife. You don’t even have to stab anyone. We just want to feel it.
"Oh, that's Mikah. He's a volcano spirit from France who got banished for setting most of the country on fire once. His grandma's an ocean spirit, ironically enough. He's nice though, really. Just a bit excitable," Kaz chuckled, leaning against the couch as he looked over at Vaughn
“Very excitable,” Vaughn hummed, nodding his head slowly. He pushed himself up so he was sitting on the counter top, resting his hands in his lap instead. He mentally scolded himself, not needing to be armed with a weapon at the moment.
Kaz smiled a little as Vaughn sat on the counter. He thought it was pretty adorable, really. His eyes lit up as he suddenly got an idea. "Ooh, stay like that for a minute!" he said before running off in the direction of the bedroom
Vaughn arched a brow in question as he watched Kaz leave the room. And to stay like this? What did Kaz have planned? Hopefully nothing that could embarrass him.
Kaz returned a few minutes later, grinning widely as he held his phone in hand. "Okay, don't blink for a minute," he said, turning the camera on his phone on as he pointed it at Vaughn
