“No, it’s okay. I want to go and spend time with you,” Vaughn said quickly. It was true, he really did want to spend time with Kaz.
“No, it’s okay. I want to go and spend time with you,” Vaughn said quickly. It was true, he really did want to spend time with Kaz.
"Are you…sure?" Kaz asked, a hint of disbelief in his tone. No one really wanted to be around him anymore. He had been labeled the local drunk a while ago, but with his especially bad drinking lately and his general bad mood, it seemed like no one really wanted to be within a few feet of him. But he could trust that Vaughn actually wanted to spend time with him, couldn't he?
“Of course I’m sure. You’re my best friend, why wouldn’t I want to spend time with you?” Vaughn asked, his tone lowering to something more gentle. Friends. Is that what they still were? He didn’t want to use another term and make Kaz uncomfortable.
"Correction, boyfriend. You are my boyfriend now. I think. Am I doing this right?" Kaz asked, realizing he was about to start rambling out of pure anxiety. You're doing it all wrong, he just wanted to sleep with you because he felt bad for you, his mind spat
“Boyfriend… Yeah, I like that. I would have said that before, I just wasn’t sure how you would react to it,” Vaughn said with a timid laugh. He rubbed at the nape if his neck, glancing around before looking back at Kaz. “I think you’re doing this right.”
"I…Okay," Kaz said, a soft smile spreading across his face. He breathed a small sigh of relief at the confirmation that he wasn't ruining everything the longer he talked. "So…Want to grab your pills and go to the mall or something?"
“Yeah, that sounds great,” Vaughn answered with a nod. He got up and brushed himself off, smiling down at Kaz. He would be fine. If he just got his medication, he would be perfectly fine.
Kaz stood, stretching a little before putting his hands in his hoodie pocket. "I think I've got enough gas in the bike to take us to the hospital and the mall. Argo said he got me some more the other day, but I guess we'll have to see."
“And we can always walk if there’s not enough gas. It’s nice out,” Vaughn said, giving a loose shrug. He grabbed onto Kaz’s forearm, only because he couldn’t grab his hand, and tubbed him towards the exit.
Kaz moved one of his hands out of his pocket so he could properly hold Vaughn's hand. He was finding that he had to constantly remind himself that Vaughn was actually interested in him, that he wasn't just pretending to like him. The fact that Kaon was practically doing cartwheels in his brain telling him otherwise wasn't helping, but he ignored it as he opened the door and began to walk towards the bike
Vaughn walked along side Kaz towards the bike. He wondered where Kaz and learned to ride one of those. He had known Kaz for a good amount of time, now, and he was just realizing that he had no idea. He decided to ask later instead.
Kaz scowled slightly to himself as Kaon continued to rant in his mind. Come onnnn, you know he's just using you. He'll wait till you're drunk and then he'll tie you up and use you like a two cent stripper, his mind drawled, and ignoring it was beginning to give him a headache. Had he not remembered his medication yesterday morning? He resolved not to care, letting go of Vaughn's hand for a moment to hand him a helmet while he put his own on
Vaughn took the helmet from Kaz, giving a quick thank you. He noticed Kaz’s anxious expression, and gave his shoulders a gentle squeeze. “Are you okay?” He asked softly, expression filled with concern.
Kaz tilted his head in confusion for a moment. "Yeah..? Oh. Yeah, yeah, I'm okay," he said, giving Vaughn a reassuring smile. "Just a little headache is all. Don't worry about it," he said before slinging a leg over the bike
“Are you sure?” Vaughn asked, a light frown making its way onto his lips. Why did he have a feeling that Kaz way lying to him? No, he was just being paranoid. Kaz wouldn’t lie to him, would he?
"Yeah, I'm good. Just a headache," Kaz assured him. Sure, it was a half truth, but it was good enough. He didn't like lying to Vaughn, even if it was only a little, but he wasn't going to run to him spouting his insecurities over their new…relationship? Was that what they were now?
Vaughn’s frown grew slightly at Kaz’s words. “Why are you lying?” He suddenly asked. He was always good at seeing through people, and he didn’t like to be lied to. He didn’t get onto the bike yet either. There was no way Kaz was getting around this conversation.
"I…" Kaz began to argue, but sighed as he pulled his helmet off. "It's Kaon, okay? That's it, there's nothing to it," he muttered, a small frown on his face as he looked at Vaughn. "What, do you think I won't drive safely or something? Because I've driven with headaches before."
“I’m not concerned about your driving, Kaz. I just don’t want to start off our relationship with little lies,” Vaughn said, tone laced with obvious stress. He really meant it. He wanted this to work out, and it wouldn’t if lies were involved.
"It's just stupid shit, you know? Little voice in the back of my head telling me you don't really care. I know…I know he's wrong," Kaz said, though he sounded more like he was trying to assure himself than Vaughn. "I just…I don't want you to worry about me. That's all." You know you want him to worry, you self-centered little runt. You want him to worry and baby you because mommy died and no one's loved you since you were 15, his mind teased, causing his headache to grow slightly more painful
Thorn's stomach growled. She let out a quiet laugh, "I hope so too. I don't know if my stomach can take much more of this."
Lana drummed at the edge of the table with her fingers. "So…what should we talk about?" she giggled after a while.
Vaughn’s frown turned a bit sadder as he listened to Kaz. “Oh, Kaz… Of course I care about you.. I promise I do. And either way, you know me, I’m always going to worry about you.. Just try not to let it bother you,” He said, now getting on the bike and giving Kaz’s shoulders a squeeze.
Thorn laughed, "Oh, I don't know."
Kaz sighed. "I know, I just…You know what, never mind. Let's just go get your meds," he said, putting his helmet back on and getting back on the bike
"Let's see…" Lana gazed off into the distance. "What's your star sign? I love astrology."
