(Gosh well geez thanks)
With everyone finally in the hummer, Alaria gave Kim a thumbs up, and they were off.
Alaria sat in the front, so she had to tilt her head to look at Jay, "So… everything alright?"
(did i like seriously annoy you? i'm sorry if i did dude)
(No, you're fine, lol :3)
"Yeah… Just uhm." Jay thought about covering up the whole situation and letting it lie in the dirt, his arm sprawled across the back of the seat. "A mess that needs straightened out because of me. He's a worrier." Jay sighed, looking out the window. When Aspen had said that, it reminded him of the nights he was called away from Aspen's apartment. The arguments. The sky rolled by.
Alaria could tell that it was a bother to him. A part of her wanted to leave him be, let him figure it out. But she'd grown rather fond of Jay, both as a potential soldier and a conversationalist. His morals were all in the right places. She didn't want him as a downer. She wanted him in his clearheaded, normal state.
You know, whatever that mess is, Alaria thought to herself, it doesn't have to be your mess alone. This is what you have teammates for, Jay.
The thought, however, remained unsaid. Alaria turned back in her seat.
(awwwww the feels)
"Alaria.." Jay started as they traveled. He may just get arrested, he may get shot, but he wanted out. He wanted to help the gang this last time and go. Before he overrode this thought with his anxiety, and his reason, he continued, "What if I killed a man? Not like, you know, the things that happen during gang shootouts, or in situations where it's 'kill or be killed'. What if I broke.." He blinked, swallowing the waver in his voice. "Not what if. I did. I killed a man who didn't ask for it."
It took Alaria a minute to process that. Her first reaction was to order Kim to stop, but she held herslef firm. If she had escaped her thievery…
Maybe he could escape as well.
Alaria didn't turn around, "Do you feel bad? Do you regret it?"
He looked at his hands. It was as if the blood was soaking back into them in his mind. But he nodded, taking a breath. "Almost every day.. It wasn't his fault, he didn't know.." Nearly every suppressed memory of Nicki came back. "I-I was in college at the time." It was years ago. That blasted woman! "..I was shy, sheltered, I wanted to try things. And she pushed me to. I didn't know what I was doing. Before I knew what was going on–I was so drugged, all the time, she hated me from the start." He just wished he'd been able to see it. "Th-the smile on her face when the man in our bed.." Jay choked. He couldn't.
Alaria raised a hand, counting off on her fingers, "One: If I'd wanted an explanation of what happened, I'd have asked for it. Two, what you were before has only so much effect on who you are now. Thusly, I don't really care much about how or why you ended up where you did. It doesn't matter. Take it from me. " Alaria paused, recounting her times as a thief, then continued less harshly, "And three, I appreciate you coming forward, and I might as well return the favor. You've heard of the Viper, right? The thief and her crew broke into Santa Maria's government offices and stole everything of value there, and left no one alive."
Jay felt ashamed, the woman was right, the explanation didn't matter. "I understand. I killed a man and that's all there is to it," He mumbled, letting out a sigh, either way it was still the same, excuses or not. That's why he hadn't gone to the police. He listened as she listed, his ears twitching at the word 'Viper'. "They couldn't find any connections in the case.." He was wondering if she was suggesting he should have left his muzzle closed, but he listened anyways. He already felt.. well less terrible though still very bad, telling someone besides the only man, Aspen, who knew.
(yay i'm important)
(Ofc!! <3)
(>w< <3)
Alaria paused, realizing what she would have to say now. She hadn't had to confess for a while now, considering that the Serathem already knew. But now she was telling Jay, and Lucia too, she realized. But she couldn't drop the matter.
"You're talking to her."
Jay's eyes widened before he realized they were and he fixed his appearance quickly. His mind was absolutely blown. "You're a military officer." he tried not to look as incredibly awed as he was.
"Yep," she answered, face blank, "I am. But I was a murderer, thief and anarchist. So…" she turned to stare at Jay again, an awkward smile on her face as she saw his expression of poorly concealed awe.
He looked at her expectantly for a moment, watching the smile appear on her mouth. He chuckled, smiling himself a heartfelt one cast back to her. "Sorry, it's just.. Wow. That's pretty much a complete flip." he suddenly felt kind of playful. "So we should be extra good at kicking butt then." he chuckled again, looking out the window. He really couldn't believe it.
"Hell yeah we will be!" Alaria piped up, "But now we fight for a purpose, aya?" She turned to Kim, "Floor it."
Alaria felt relief to have finally confessed her thief-set history.
(hello guys, I have returned)
Lucia stared alternatingly at Alaria and Jay. Their stories were interesting, painful to hear. Her past was plain, bland. She looked out the window. "The Viper was a very famous name in my old neighbourhood."
"Keyword there: was," Alaria answered, "Now? The Viper is dead. as far as anyone outside this hummer knows. Speaking of…" Alaria gave both of them a hard glare, "I trust you, but if anyone else learns of this…"
Lucia turned to look at Alaria with an honest stare. "What happens in the Hummer stays in the Hummer."
Alaria smirked, "That's right. Now, did anyone catch any details on Stephen from Pat? She wasn't exactly in the right mind when were trying to talk."
"I think she said something about St. Augustine, when we were on our way here." Lucia remembered suddenly.
