As they went into the cave, more people were visible- there had to be at least thirty in sight at first glance. There were torches and campfires scattered that lit up the cavern, but the light was still relatively dim, and faces were hard to make out.
What Pollux first noticed was that more than half of the people here were quite young, either teens or children, perhaps his age at best. The second thing was that of the older teens and adults, most of them had clear injuries, whether they be burns or wounds from weapons that were crudely and hastily covered up with bandages. As he walked on, he saw even more people, and an area set aside for those that were perhaps dying from their ailments. There were about five people lying on blankets and makeshift cots, and an old woman sitting nearby, pain and sadness seeming to permanently be etched into her face. Pollux, without thinking, made his way towards her to offer a hand.
Aurelius was one of the last to enter. He was stunned at what he saw. Dragon riders, all like him and his allies, were somewhat crowded into this cave. There were several dragons lined up to the side of the cave. It was a bad temporary living situation, but he could tell they were trying to make the best of it. Even as horrible as it seemed, to Aurelius, it was better than wandering around without a home to return to.
Oliver wondered how long everyone was going to be so he grabbed the young girls hand in his and also beckoned Riven to follow. As the three walked over to where everyone disappeared to Oliver yelled to see if they were okay. "Hey, you guys still alive?"
Nox was still at the edge of the cave. She peeked her head up. Over here, darling, she said, Why don't you come with us? There are other survivors here.
Lucky stodden warily at the entrance. Sighing, she walked Inside and looked around the cave. She took in all the details and any place where there were exits.
Oliver headed inside and saw many other people and immediately felt uncomfortable. His village was small and didn't have many people living there. He went and found a spot to sit with the girl he had dragged in. Gently he set his back pack in front of him and checked on his egg.
Pollux had been helping with the dying patients, to apply fresh bandages and salves, give out water, and do anything else that was necessary. He got to the last one, only to realize that they weren't breathing. Still warm, but no heartbeat. Pollux jumped into action and started doing chest compressions, despite the fact he was exhausted and barely had the energy to spare. It was a few minutes later, after he had snapped a couple of ribs and was absolutely drenched in sweat that he realized it was too late to do anything- that this person, who was his age at the oldest, was much too far gone for him to rescue.
He buried his head in his hands, obviously distressed, but he didn't move or make a sound after this. Pollux needed a few minutes to collect himself. He'd already seen enough. This pushed him over the edge.
Meanwhile, Aurelius was talking to some of the survivors about what had happened, and it was all eerily similar to their village's case.
Arioch had taken to the forge, over the period of a half hour he had reforged an entire suit of scale mail, both lighter and stronger than it was before.
Aurelius approached Arioch after gathering more information. "So it seems these people did not come from the village we just saw up in flames. They're from other ones… They were also attacked with the help of insiders. The common threads I'm seeing are traitors being used for tactical advantage, and said traitors typically being people who weren't born into the village and never seemed to fit in entirely. I've also heard several reports of a specific leader, possibly. A man of about 50 years riding a Great Dragon. I didn't see him back in our village, but I'm sure I missed a lot with my narrow focus. Point is, they have a leader. I'm not sure about the nature of their hierarchy, but something tells me killing him might help us out a bit."
Zander had tried for hours to get a hold of the rest of the council, but none had been answering and it was testing his patience. He had only joined the council a year ago and was the new person, but they saw he was strong and definitely on there side. "Valkyrie, I might have to leave in a bit, will you be okay?" He worried for the new girl, especially since he could see she still cared a bit for her former friends. He didn't want her to betray him or the council.
Oliver pulled out his egg and looked closely at it. It had a crack but he knew it was from earlier when it almost fully hatched. "Come on how long are you going to take?"
"I'm fine," Valkyrie replied tersely, folding her arms in front of her. She paced a little bit. She was much more worried about what might become of her family than her "friends." They were mere stepping stones on the path to revenge, but she didn't want her family to suffer for it when the influx of her money stopped.
Nox approached Oliver. Do you mind if I take care of your egg for a bit? It's awfully close to hatching… Might be more eager to come out when cared for by another dragon.
Zander got on his dragon and flew away. Only the council knew where to meet up. If what they talked about got out there would be more tragedy then necessary.
Oliver handed his egg to Nox. "If you think it will help then go ahead." Oliver was just curious as to see what kind of dragon his father had come up with.
Nox carefully nudged the egg closer and she laid down, curling her body around it so that the egg was pressed up against her belly and surrounded in her warmth. She felt a flutter of warmth in her heart; she had never had the opportunity to help hatch a baby dragon before, or even be hatched in the presence of another dragon.
I think it might hatch within the next day… she said gently, And that's at the most.
(Hey illy and bec, mind if Cerulean comes to join the bad guy gang?)
(Yeah, go for it. That'll get things rolling a little more on their end.)
Oliver's eyes sparkled as he looked at it in awe. He couldn't wait to have his own dragon. Even if it was still an egg he could feel the connection already.
Mara sat in that cage for what felt like forever. She had no idea why Zander was doing all this, but she was determined to find out. "Here food." A boy that looked her age walked in and shoved a tray in her cell. His face was stone like, but very handsome. "Thanks." She didn't want to get to know these people, especially since her friends would find her and she would never see them again.
(Yay! Hes flying over them now)
Cerulean and Shadow were flying over the forest trying to find another Village to raid when Shadow snarled Dragons. Cerulean grinned evil-ly "well let's go say hello!"
Valkyrie paced in front of Mara's cage.
"Any clue why they decided to capture you?" She asked, neither sympathetic nor cold. Just indifferent and a little curious.
She placed her hands on the bars and sighed a little. "And what became of Aurelius? I take it he didn't die from his injuries…"
Cerulean and Shadow landed I front of the two people. When shadow folded his wings back, cerulean wasnt on her. "Hello mates!" He said, appearing from behind them, a ball of dark purple forming g in his hands.
Valkyrie's lip curled a little. She was still getting used to working alongside these brutes and thugs and lunatics, and truthfully, she quite disliked them all at the moment. She recognized Cerulean, she thought, but it took a moment for her to remember where from.
"You were one of the men leading when we attacked my village, weren't you?" she asked, only half-certain.
"Look Shadow, I have been gathering fame but not fortune." He grinned "and who might you be, deary?" He said, the purple orb, now vanished.
"Valkyrie," she replied. Her tone was extremely serious, and almost snippy, but anyone paying enough attention would have noticed she was just on edge and out of place. "I joined from the village in the southern forests."
(Damn… I've missed a lot)
(Do you want a really really basic summary?)
Cerulean's grin widened "Am I making the child uncomfortable?" He mocked. Cerulean started laughing and cracked his knuckles. Then a smirk made his way onto his face "rule number one, never tell strangers your names. Not the Riders of the north. And especially not the Masked Titan." He said from behind his face mask.
(Yes please, I can't be bothered reading though everything)
(Lol what was the last thing you remember?)
