Valkyrie landed Valhalla nearby Zander. She was covered in sweat, despite the cold weather and the few snowflakes that had begun to fall.
"It is done," she said grimly, "We've made a hit on the third village. We were especially thorough on this one. There were… no survivors…"
Valkyrie's eyes wandered over to Mara. "Oh, so you got her? What do you plan to do with her now that you have her?"
Quincy watched everyone carefully, Aurelius was drained, from the ritual. Riven was injured, but that wasn't her problem anymore.
“I think we’re only an hour or two away in flight… Hang in there,” Pollux said, mostly directing this at Aurelius and Riven.
Aurelius nodded but said nothing back.
(Ima just bump this back to the top, don't mind me)
(Not much. Just school. Finals week is coming up…)
(I mean, kind of, but I think I'll be alright. This week has already been more stressful than I think finals week is going to be.)
(Yeah, I hope you do well :) )
"Where are we going anyway?" Oliver was confused as to what was going on, so much has happened in these last few hours. Riven did his best to keep up with the group. Usually he had no trouble, but now it was difficult.
Telara and Mavrus had bolted past Zuriel and Arioch while everything was happening and they could be heard talking from a distance as they followed the group.
"We're going to another village… well, granted they haven't suffered the same fate. It's just the only place we can go with our dragons and all," Aurelius explained.
Pollux had meanwhile been keeping a close eye on Riven.
"Hey, I think we should check in on him," he said, "I know we're trying to be fast, but he's struggling."
No I'm fine, just keep going. In truth Oliver was worried about him as well, but Dragons are stubborn and he didn't want to argue with one. We have no time to be taking breaks. Especially since we know the people that burned down our village were so close.
"If you insist," Pollux replied, "I don't… I don't think we're that far…"
Aurelius looked over his shoulder. "We're not? You don't think they've burned the next village down yet, do you?"
"I mean, honestly, we can only hope."
And what if this one's gone to? What then? We can't keep going through this same pattern… We need another plan, in case things go wrong… Nox said.
By this time Arioch, Zuriel and Telara caught up We have to keep up hope, and if it isn't burned down yet we have time to warn them.
"Thanks the gods this time we have proof and don't have to deal with stubborn elders refusing to hear our message," Aurelius said bitterly, "So many innocents lost their lives… It didn't have to happen that way… Even had we upped defenses a little, we may have been able to save most of the village."
I have a kind of bad gut feeling though… I don't doubt that there are villages left… I just think that they've already initiated quite a few attacks.
I have to agree, I think there are many villages that have been burned down. Riven was sure that the last village wasn't the last and that many more are probably gone by now as well. "We have to find Mara, without her Riven might start to get aggressive." Dragons that are already bonded with some and they are not around, that was never a good sign.
"I know… I have a feeling there's a reason they're after her, too. I know what it's like when a dragon loses their human too… It's never a good thing."
Nox lifted her head up a little. I see a glow ahead… I can't tell whether they're lights or fire, or something else… Is that the village?
"We should be close," Pollux answered, "but let's get a good idea of what's happening before we go in."
(Uhhh actually I'm trying to decide… I think it would be a cool loop back around to Valkyrie and Zander's interaction, but also I want them to find people… So y'all can decide if you want.)
(I mean, plot-wise, it would make sense for them to see this one's burning, and just nope out of there.)
(Also, I'm loving the holiday-themed names)
(ehehe thanks, gotta get into the Christmas mood)
