Quincy had followed them into the market, she was standing tin the back watching them look at weapons.
Aurelius looked up from the sword he was holding and waved at Quincy. "Have you found anything? Heard about anything on patrols?"
Quincy shook her head, "No, nothing yet. I'm worried though, maybe me and Jade will go and check it out ourselves."
"Yeah. No patrols have come back with anything worthwhile yet," Aurelius explained, "So I guess the more we patrol, the more likely we are to catch something amiss."
Quincy nodded, "Okay, so I guess it's just a waiting game now isn't it?"
"Unfortunately, yes. I'm hoping we can get out first," Aurelius said, going into a whisper so the salesperson wouldn't overhear.
Quincy looked around and responded quietly, "That would be good. NO one else seems to be freaking out over this, and I find that strange."
"Could I take a look at the unfinished weapons?" Mara felt drawn to the door, maybe it was just her curiosity, butt she really wanted to know what kind of weapons were behind the door.
“Wouldn’t hurt for you to take a peek I suppose,” she said, reaching into her pocket for the key, “Maybe you’ll like one of my near-completed designs, and I can set you up with one soon.”
Aurelius nodded as he kept talking to Quincy. “Yeah, and everyone’s dragons had those dreams too. It’s not like they didn’t receive the signs.”
“I just, urgh! People are idiots sometimes,” Quincy let out a quiet tell, “The elders are idiots, the people are idiots for ignoring the signs. Ignorance’s will be their downfall.”
The woman opened the door and Mara walked in, it was dark except for a few cases the held unfinished weapons and it was amazing. "Wow," Mara loved all these, but there was one. A black bladed sword, shes never seen a sword like this before. There was no handle on it, but Mara knew this is the one she wanted. "I like this one."
“Yeah. I think this village has been secure for too long. People don’t even believe there’s a possibility of attack,” Aurelius said, “and they’re going to die because their lives have been too soft…”
The woman nodded. “You have an eye for the unique, now don’t you? I’ve been experimenting with a black metal found in the mountains around here, and I alloyed it with iron. However, I used dragon flames instead of a regular forge fire to temper the blade in a higher heat. I’m not entirely sure if it has much better quality than other metals, or if the dragon flame is any better than regular forging- though it’s certainly not worse- but I can assure you it won’t rust.”
“I suppose that’s out of our control. If they want to be soft, choose to be ignorant, then so be it,” Quincy huffed.
“Which is why we’re not staying around to help when they aren’t prepared for what’s to come. We actually have a chance of survival because we’re aware of everything. No reason to throw it away by sticking around,” Aurelius replied.
"It's beautiful, you're an excellent blacksmith." Mara liked this girl for some reason. "Although I would pack up all you're things, all the dragons had a dream of the end of this town." If Mara could even save one life she would. It was up to the girl if she wanted to believe her.
"So it wasn't just my girl," she responded as she went to the back to organize some of the weapons, "We may really be coming to the end of our days… No matter. If things start going downhill, I'll just return to the dragon village that I came from. After all, everyone else seems too busy carrying on their lives to worry about some sort of apocalypse, so even if I'm the only one ready, I might as well create a way out for myself." The woman paced a little bit, but then spoke again. "So, did you want to buy anything? Test out any weapons?"
"I would only want to buy this one, I'd rather wait for this one to be finished." Mara ran a hand over the glass. "Think you could put this one on hold?" Mara knew this was the sword for her. Running over to the door she peeked her head out. "Aurelius, I found the sword I want!" She wanted him to see it and give his opinion.
"I just need to put a hilt on it. If I set out to work on it tonight, it should be done in the morning, or at least sometime tomorrow," the shopkeeper said.
Aurelius turned away from Quincy and towards Mara. "You did? Great! Let's see it."
Quincy was glad they were leaving the rest of them to burn, slightly. Only because they were kind of asking for it.
A huge smile appeared on her face as she slipped back into the room. She could wait for Aurelius to see it. "What do you think?" She asked as Aurelius walked into the room. Because it's not finished she doesn't know how heavy it is, but that didn't matter to her.
"Risky, picking out an unfinished sword," he said, "But it looks very nice. Hey, Miss, what can you tell me about the sword and its properties? It it lightweight? Intended for one-handed use?"
The salesperson smiled. "With the second metal added in, it should be light, and the length, as you can see, is not that of a heavy sword. It's made for both slashing and stabbing- whatever strikes your fancy."
"How much is it?"
"Well… it's experimental, and I'm not certain on how well it works, so I imagine it'll be pretty discounted… but as part of the price, I expect to get some feedback on how the blade works for you, darling."
"Mara, we'll get you a dagger too, just in case things don't work, but if you're dead-set on this blade…"
"I'm definitely dead-set on this sword, but a dagger would be nice." Mara looked over at the store lady, "Do you have a dagger made of the same stuff?" She should really ask for her name, a blacksmith like her should be famous and Mara is going to make that happen. "What is your name by the way?"
"Lydia Sage," she replied, "I don't have any daggers with the same material at the moment. Most of mine are steel, bronze, and iron."
"Again, that material is experimental, and your dagger should be made with something that has more well-known properties. So steel is probably the best way to go," Aurelius added.
"Okay, so which ones do you think are good?" She took one last look at the black sword before walking out to go look at daggers. There were so many, it was hard to choose one. "Hm, this is difficult."
"Let's just look at these steel ones. They're all basically the same," Aurelius said, walking back out in front of Mara. He indicated a section of steel daggers. "Is that right?"
Lydia nodded. "Most of the differences between those are just stylistic."
