Liam seated himself at the table, poking the box with one finger to see if something would happen, “Fair comment. I feel like it’s too small to be a bomb.”
Liam seated himself at the table, poking the box with one finger to see if something would happen, “Fair comment. I feel like it’s too small to be a bomb.”
“What do you think it is, then? Do you think we should open it?” Kasey asked, chewing on the inside of her cheek.
"I mean we have to at some point, don't we." Liam furrowed his brows, "It could be a body part though and I do not want to see that."
Kasey visibly cringed, narrowing her eyes at the box. “I guess I’ll go grab a box cutter, then,” she sighed as she started toward the kitchen.
Liam nodded a little, "Aight, let's get this over with." He shook his head with a small sigh. What was Matt up to?
Kasey came back a moment later with a box cutter. She handed it to Liam, then crossed her arms and watched the box closely.
Liam took the box cutter almost hesitantly. He slowly and carefully cut the box open, making sure not to damage whatever might be inside. When he opened it up, though, there was only a small note and someone’s eye.
Kasey cringed, squeezing her eyes shut and covering her mouth with her hand. “Oh my gosh,” she breathed.
Liam scrunched his nose up, taking out the note before shutting the box, “It’s gone, you can open your eyes.”
“I think I need water before I do anything else… I don’t feel so good,” Kasey murmured, pressing her other hand to her stomach. “I’ll be right back.”
“Take all the time you need,” Liam swallowed, pushing the box away, “Gosh that’s… why would anyone do that?”
“To scare us,” Kasey whispered as she hurried into the kitchen. She poured herself a glass of water, then slowly dipped on it before returning to Liam. “What does the note say?”
"I'm more disgusted then anything," He mumbled. He opened the note, skim reading it for a moment before he red it out loud,
"To Kasey and Liam,
Hope you're both doing well! Sorry about the drop in at the cemetery! Thought it would be nice ti chat but clearly you both didn't think the same :( what a shame, really. Anyways, I thought I'd send you a little gift as an apology, sourced from the best material. Have you checked in on your other acquaintance Kyle recently? I think he might be missing something important…
See you both soon! And remember to keep watching the TV, you never know what might show up one day.
Matt."
“No…” Kasey breathed, leaning forward and gripping the edge of the table tightly.
"That it," Liam mumbled, trying his best not to rip the paper into shreds, "That's all it says.. Do you.. do you think Kyle is okay?"
Kasey slowly dragged her eyes to Liam, trying not to show all the feelings raging through her at the moment. She blinked, then slowly shook her head. “If that really is his eye… I would only hope that was all they did to him,” she whispered.
Liam let out a nervous chuckle, swallowing and trying not to look so scared or angry, “If they killed him, let’s just hope his death was quick. But he could still be alive, right? He wouldn’t… Matt couldn’t…”
“He could. I hope he is. They would have no reason to kill him… Other than incentive…” Kasey said slowly, keeping her eyes away from the box. “What are we supposed to do with this…?”
“Well it’s not like we can give the eye back to him if he’s- if he’s alive,” Liam tapped his fingers against the table, “Do we just.. chuck it out?”
“Burn it. Take it somewhere and burn the whole box,” Kasey whispered, wrapping her arms around her waist and holding herself tightly.
Liam looked up at her for a moment before he stood and wrapped his arms round Kasey, "Okay. It'll be okay, we'll be okay soon."
Kasey released a shaky breath when Liam wrapped his arms around her. She buried her face in his chest, holding onto him tight.
“I hope so… Ugh, why did I have to be born with powers? And why would I decide to be a superhero if it was just going to screw over my entire life?” she groaned.
Liam rested his cheek atop her head, playing with the strands of Kasey's hair, "I don't know, the universe is a strange thing. You didn't know Matt was going to show up, hopefully he'll be gone, soon."
“I hope so. I really hope so,” Kasey whispered shakily. “Maybe I should go back into hiding again…”
"I think that might be a good idea. Once all this has passed over." Liam hated the thought of Kasey being hurt, by anyone. Maybe going into hiding would be a good idea.
