"That's not a bad reason at all," he said, "I would have too."
Vida perked up a little bit. Had Katya just referred to her as a friend? They hardly even knew each other.
"That's not a bad reason at all," he said, "I would have too."
Vida perked up a little bit. Had Katya just referred to her as a friend? They hardly even knew each other.
Katya looked down once she realized she had said friend. She didn't really know what else to call these strangers turned partners turned whatever this is. She crossed her arms, "Lead the way Cy-rus."
Cyrus nodded and walked onward, down the staircase and back to the core of the old bunker, then off to the side a bit, where there were a few connected bedrooms, all with four small beds in each.
"How's this? It's the best we can do honestly…" Cyrus said, letting Vida down.
She went and flopped over face-first on one of the beds.
Katya slowly made her way to the bed closest to the corner. She sat down and huddled up on the bed, "It's fine."
Sparrow set nathan down and walked over to on of the beds "these are much more nicer than the one I have!" She joked
Cyrus watched Sparrow for a second and beckoned for her to come over. He knew they needed to talk about this. They couldn't just act like having a bunch of kids from their old guild show up was normal.
Kyle wandered into one of the rooms cautiously, still not sure about these people but they seemed to be nice. But he knew looks could be deceiving.
Sparrow nodded. She picked nathan up again and put him on the bed before walking over to Cyrus
"We have to go back," Cyrus murmured, "Well, we don't all have to… but… you get what I mean. We need to know their plans before they can take us out. We're too vulnerable to withstand any sort of attack."
Katya looked up at Cy-rus. She said quietly, "Why do you want to go back?"
"I don't want to…" Cyrus sighed, "But I think I might have to… These men that captured you, they've ruined the lives of so many, including kids like you… We have to do something about it."
"Did they do the same to you?" Kyle asked.
"Well… my story is a little bit different. You see, I was born to two parents from the guild, and I think they were kidnapped like you, but they never got away. As for my friends here, they were all taken away," Cyrus explained.
Vida looked over, eyes filled with tears. "They kill people… You can't go there…"
"Can I help?" Kyle crossed his arms.
Katya nodded, it felt more like a fact than anything. Killing people should phase her, so why did that sentence only cause a numb feeling in her chest.
"You can't go with me, of course, but I'm sure I can find little ways for you to be useful. For one thing, if you know anything that you think might be important, it would be great if you could tell us," Cyrus said.
Vida was crying again. This couldn't happen again… he would die too…
Kyle walked over and gave Vida a hug before he nodded to Cyrus, "Okay. I'll tell you if I think of anything."
Esmea followed the group because she was bored and Uriah followed her to keep an eye on her. "Sharing a room huh?" She leaned against the door frame, her cold demeanor on again. "If your going back, then let me go with you, I'm the oldest of all the kids and I'm very skilled. Plus I can get onto the small areas you wouldn't be able to fit into." Uriah frowned a little, he knew Cyrus was going to say no, one because that's just who he is, he would never take a child to that place. Two, Esmea was the most untrustworthy one of all the kids. But somehow he felt bad for her.
Cyrus shook his head, not turning around. "I'm loathe to let my friends even come with me, and they're adults… I would never put a child in harm's way. I'm not like them. But same goes for you. If you have information or game plans, we're open to any suggestions."
"You're only two years older then me so shut up." Kyle glared at Esmea, still hugging Vida.
"They… they'll shoot you too… You can't go! You can't go!" Vida screeched, being racked even harder with sobs. She leaned into Kyle's arms.
Cyrus looked over, a concerned look passing over his eyes. "Shoot me? Too?"
"How about you shut up!" She snapped back. "I'm not the one shaking or hugging someone cause I'm scared. You all are children if you can't buck up and do a job, which yes includes killing people." Esmea wasn't afraid to do the dirty work, in fact she quite enjoys it. "I'm not a child. I'm a skilled assassin who had also been through a lot, so if I can get back at them I'll do anything to do it."
Kyle hugged Vida a little tighter, "I'm not scared, I'm trying to be comforting unlike you," He sighed and looked to Vida, "It's okay Vida, no ones going anywhere."
Cyrus' stance closed up a lot. He couldn't promise Vida he wouldn't leave…
"This isn't yours to decide, Esmea… I literally co-run this place. Part of our policy is that we don't send kids to do our dirty work ever. We teach them skills they may need later, but we don't make them use them in real world context until they're ready. And that means they've got to be a bare minimum of sixteen, and even that's only in dire situations."
"You're all irrelevant to my life so I don't care if you get killed or not. And you don't get to decide what I do with my life, isn't that right?" She glared at Cyrus and waved her hand in the air, like she was shooing off some flies. This girl made Uriah upset, not exactly in the anger way, more like he was sad that she had to go through things like this to turn out this way. She had no sympathy for anyone and didn't even care about her own life. Everyone here was just someone passing by in her life and she looked at them as if she could use them to get something for herself or target practice.
