"That's right," Vida huffed, "To protect him…"
She frowned.
"That's right," Vida huffed, "To protect him…"
She frowned.
"Something wrong?" Katya asked curiously.
"It just feels like a bad thing to do," Vida said, "but it's for a good cause, so I shouldn't worry."
(Vida learns how to be chaotic good)
"Yeah," Katya nodded, "Everything will be fine. The worst that will happen is we get scolded right?"
(Yeet!)
"As long as it looks like an accident," Vida agreed. This was starting to sound like an okay plan.
"Yep," Katya nodded quickly. It made her head hurt a little, "Do you think we should stay here?"
Vida nodded. "I think we're safe here… If we leave, we could get caught again. Besides, now we have warm beds and food, and we at least have each other."
Katya paused, she frowned slightly, "But they could hurt us. Or use us against each other. I still don't like it, but I'll stay I guess."
"I think if they wanted to hurt us, they would have already," Vida replied, "Or they would have locked us up, maybe."
"Maybe they already have," Katya said looking to the door, "Quick check if it's locked!"
Vida walked up to touch the doorknob. It easily turned, but she didn't want to open it.
"No… they didn't even bother locking it," Vida said softly.
Katya looked at her wide eyed, "Really? They didn't?"
"No…?" Vida said, "I know they locked the mean girl's room, but she was being… mean… Do they trust us?"
"I- I don't know," Katya slowly made her way back to her corner bed, "Maybe?"
Vida smiled finally. "Of course they do… Well, I might try to sleep. I'm very tired, Kat."
She dragged herself up onto the bed again.
"Okay," Katya said curling up in the bed. She wasn't very tired, but sleep might be a good thing.
Once Esmea knew that Uriah was asleep she snuck out of her room. It was suffocating, being stuck in a room, again. There were barely any people around, and if she saw someone they basically ignored her. She tiptoed up the stairs and as she was walking around on the top floor she found a door that said 'roof'. She opened it and went out. The sun felt nice on her skin and the wind was crisp, but she didn't mind. Sitting at the edge she let her legs dangle off the side of the building and Esmea just stared off into the forest.
Eira, who after finishing the conversation with Cyrus and Luna, needed somewhere to clear her head and ended up on the roof, only to find Esmea there. She shook her head with a small smile and sat next to her, "Hey there." She said gently.
Esmea looked back to see Eira strating to sit next to her. Although she didn't particularly like any of them, Eira was some how comforting. "Hi." She said sternly before turning back to the forest.
"I know nothing I can say will make you hate me less, or anyone here for that matter but…" She sighed and looked up at the sky, "If there's anything I can do to make you feel any better about this whole situation then let me know."
Esmea followed her gaze and looked up at the sky. "There's nothing any of you could do to make me feel better, not unless you can erase memories or travel back in time." Esmea thought back to all the messed up things she has witnessed and done. It wasn't pretty, she has turned into someone who doesn't care about anything. And she couldn't even protect her siblings.
"Look," Eira looked to her, "I was the same as you. Taken to the guild when I was eight with no memory of my family at all. I trained, I killed and I followed the rules and I thought that would be all I would ever do. But things will get better. I found my sister I couldn't even remember," She smiled a little, "You're strong, Esmea. I know when the time comes you will be able to protect the ones you love and do some good."
"Sure we both got taken to a guild, but." Her eyes fixed on Eira. "Both we're different people with different experiences. Do you want to know what I was trained to do?" Esmea didn't even care anymore, if they wanted to know her past then fine, she'll tell them.
"Fine. Tell me." Eira sat back on her arms, face blank.
"I was trained to sneak into guilds and get information and their weak spots, the take it back to Black Claw so he can take them down. Also I was in charge of killing people, gutting and chopping them up and selling all the body parts to the black market. And our first kill we had to cook and eat the hearts of them for a job well done. I'm sure some of the other kids in there had to do that as well. I was known as a prodigy, and killed the weak ones in a game to the death." Her eyes grew more cold the more she talked. "And I'll tell you something." Leaning closer she whispered. "I enjoyed it, killing people sends my adrenaline through the roof. So no I'm not like you 'We're making people safe and better' kind. Don't mistake me for a child who doesn't know what she's doing."
