She looked up at Jay and smiled, glancing around for someone who might know where they could sleep. "Should we find someone to help us find someplace to sleep?" She asked, petting Leo gently, "Before Leo here falls asleep?"
She looked up at Jay and smiled, glancing around for someone who might know where they could sleep. "Should we find someone to help us find someplace to sleep?" She asked, petting Leo gently, "Before Leo here falls asleep?"
"Sure." Jay replied with a chuckle. He gave her the sling, and stood up. "Want any help with him or the crutches?" He gestured at the puppy. Leo stretched, yawning adorably.
Delia took the sling and put it on before scooping leo up and nodding to her crutches, "if you could help with my crutches that would be great." With that, she went back to maneuvering the puppy into the sling, still smiling.
Jay nodded, and picked up the crutches, holding them for her and helping as best he could. Leo squirmed a little, snuggling into the sling then poking his head out. He rested his chin on the edge of it, blinking sleepily as he looked up at Delia.
"You're adorable," She cooed to Leo, looking down at the puppy before standing up and taking the crutches from Jay. For a moment she looked around to see if she had forgotten anything besides her bags on the floor, "Alright, I think I'm good, would you mind helping me get my bags onto my back quick though?"
Leo wagged his tail a little, happy. Jay nodded, and picked her bags up, helping her out them on. "Here." He said with a smile. "Take good care of Leo, but don't spoil him." He chuckled softly.
Delia rolled her eyes and smiled, nodding in thanks as he helped her put her bags on her back, "I'll try not to spoil him, and I'll obviously take good care of him."
Jay chuckled softly, hands lingering on her shoulders for a moment, before he pulled his hands away, clearing his throat. "Alright. Good." He replied, looking away for a moment, then back at her. Leo closed his eyes sleepily.
His hands on her shoulder were comforting and she noticed that they lingered, causing her cheeks to flush slightly as she talked again, "Well, thanks for helping me. We should probably find someone to help get our rooms now."
Jay nodded, and looked around. "One of the officers?" he said slowly, thinking and trying to ignore the way she was blushing.
"Yeah, they probably will know where we have to go." She looked around the mess hall and spotted a few talking at one of the tables, with Caspian talking with them, "Maybe we can see if one of them can help us."
Jay nodded, then looked at her. "I want you to be careful who you trust." He said softly. "I don't want you to get hurt."
Delia glanced over at him and nodded, an almost surprised look on her face. It had been so long since someone had told her anything similar to what he had said, that he didn't want her to get hurt. "I'm always careful as to who I trust," She said, starting to make her way through the crowded mess hall and towards the table.
Jay nodded, and followed her. "Alright. Good." He replied.
As they got close to the table, Caspian spotted them and flashed her a smile, causing the other soldiers to turn and look at them as well. "Hey Delia, Jay, how are you guys doing?" He asked, turning to introduce them quick, "These are the two we found out by the ruins, you two, these are my fellow soldiers and friends."
Delia offered a small smile and ignored Leo as he popped his head out of the sling and growled, "We're doing good, but we were wondering, is there somewhere we can put our stuff away and sleep?"
Jay's eyes flickered over the soldiers. He wondered how long it would take for someone to find out what he was. What he would eventually do. He nodded to Caspian, sticking close to Delia and letting her do the talking. Leo, awoken from his nap by Caspian's voice, was obviously not happy to see the soldier again, squirming in the sling and growling.
"Yeah, actually there is," He replied with the same smile, looking around at his fellow soldiers to silently say that he would be right back. With one smooth movement, he stood up and motioned for them to follow, "The first question I have to ask you though is, do you both want separate rooms? or would you prefer to be together?" He glanced back at them and waited for an answer as Delia followed him.
Jay followed. He hesitated, then looked at Delia. "That's up to her." he replied. "I don't have a preference either way." He did. He had a preference. He would prefer to stay with her, but he didn't want to force her to stay with him. He knew she would probably want her own room, have some privacy. Leo didn't let up his sleepy growling.
Delia thought for a minute and glanced at Jay, trying to decide before eventually shrugging, "One room works, that way you don't have to lead us around any more than necessary." She stopped walking and tapped Leo's nose to try to get him to quiet before starting to follow Caspian again.
"Alright then, if either of you want to change to a single room at any time just find me and i'll get it arranged," He offered, turning down a hallway connected to the mess hall that was lines with individual apartments, each labeled with a number.
Leo went quiet, and laid his head on the sling, watching Caspian warily, but sleepily. Jay nodded, and walked beside Delia. "Alright." after a pause, he said, "Thank you." he adjusted his backpack, making sure his hair was still mostly tucked under his hat. He didn't want to give himself away. That could have disastrous consequences.
She gave him a hint of a smile and nodded, "You're welcome." In all honesty, she had considered taking her own room, but she didn't want to leave Jay and risk never seeing him again.
Jay smiled back, and set a hand on her shoulder lightly. He sighed softly. He had to be careful about this. About what he was.
Caspian glanced at them and his eyes flicked to Jay's hand on her shoulder, though he didn't say anything as he continued along and led then down another hallway branching off the first. "Here you guys are," He said, slowing to a stop in front of a room with an open door, "Unit…235." He scanned the number plate saying which room it was before stepping inside and flicking on a lightswitch.
Inside there were two twin sized beds with sheets and blankets along with pillows pushed up against opposite walls. A single dresser stood in the middle and besides those, there was no other decoration to the room besides some hooks hanging up on the wall to hold coats. Delia smiled and glanced at Jay, then at Caspian, "Thank you Caspian."
Jay smiled slightly. "Thanks." He said to Caspian, taking a step into the room and looking around. Leo looked around from where he was in the sling, tail wagging a little bit.
Caspian nodded and flashed Delia another smile, "You're very welcome, I'm always happy to help a pretty lady." He nodded to Jay and looked around the room one more time, "Alright then, I'm going to head back. Let me know if you need anything else." With that, he turned and left before anyone could comment on him calling delia pretty.
She smiled and walked over to one of the beds, sitting down and sliding off her backpack before pulling Leo out of the sling and letting him out on the floor, "We should probably close the door so Leo doesn't run out."
