Delia nodded in agreement, "I think he's already catching onto his name, but yes, we need to get those two things down. Treats are only if he does good, I agree, and with how small and hungry for food he is, I'm thinking it'll be a good motivator for him." She smiled slightly, looking down at leo who was settled in and studying the area for anything interesting.
Jay chuckled softly. "Mhm." He agreed, looking over at the little puppy. Leo wagged his tail slightly, looking around curiously.
“You listening to us talk about you Leo?” She asked the puppy, looking down at him and even reaching a hand up to pet him momentarily before going back to walking. They had way too much ground to cover, and with her leg, she was already way behind where she wanted to be.
Jay smiled lightly, sighing softly as they continued walking. He honestly didn't mind the speed they were walking; he really didn't. He was good with however fast or slow she wanted to walk or could walk.
Leo just wagged his tail, too busy looking around. As much as Delia wanted to be able to move and go much faster than they were, she didn’t want to hurt herself. Excruciatingly slow pace it was until she got better.
Jay smiled slightly as he looked over at her. He had the knit hat pulled on over his hair again, covering up that telltale pale color. That way, if they ran into a normal human that knew what to look for, maybe they wouldn't realize what he was.
She glanced over at him and made accidental eye contact, looking away quickly with a small smile, “So, Jay, any place you want to visit in particular when we get to the coast? I know the abandoned cities sound cool to see, and the ocean is on my list, but what about you?”
He smiled. "Uhm…good question." He chuckled softly. "I really don't know. I guess I don't really mind where we go." He shrugged. Leo wagged his tail again, sniffing the air curiously.
"C'mon, there's gotta be something you want to see," She said with a smile, moving out of the way so she didnt run into one of the many abandoned cars on the road.
He shrugged. "Not…really." he shook his head. "Like i said, i dont have much of a preference on where we go or what we do."
Delia sighed, shrugging, "Well, think of something you want to do, I want to make sure we do at lest one thing you want to do." She looked around and her eyes flicked to the sky, looking for any surveillance drones in the sky.
He shrugged. "The beach sounds good." He replied. "Leo would have fun." He smiled slightly. The puppy kept watching the scenery go by.
"Then we'll go to the beach," She decided with a smile, looking over at him. With so much of the trip left, she went silent, only the crunch of her crutches and foot walking making any sort of noise.
He smiled. "Alright." He remained quiet as they walked, keeping an eye out for anyone, whether animal, person, or otherwise. Leo remained quiet, resting his head on the edge of the sling so he could still watch, but without holding his head up.
For the next few hours, things were uneventful. They followed the road and saw hundreds of wrecked or abandoned cars on the way. no drones passed overhead and it made Delia think maybe they were back on schedule. She could test that theory in a hour or two when the next drone usually came.
(you still want them to get taken by the military, right?)
Jay walked beside her, not minding how slow they were walking. It meant he got to enjoy the scenery, and look at all the cars. Leo had fallen asleep in the sling, his head tucked up against her body.
(Ya)
Softly, Delia started humming to herself, keeping quiet so Jay couldn't easily overhear. Having Leo tucked in next to her was comforting, giving her something to worry about instead of the drones, keeping the little pup safe from anyone or anything.
(ok. Now or later?)
Jay occasionally could hear little bits and pieces of what she was humming, but didn't make an effort to listen too closely. Leo shifted slightly, still asleep.
(Now works for me)
Just walking with someone was so much better than traveling alone and she thought back to the others she had traveled with in her journey across the country. Most of them she just walked with until they reached their destination and she continued on, though others..she had watched them pass away due to illness, wounds, or a number of other things.
(alright. You want the drone to spot them, then them get taken to the military base, right?)
Jay stretched slightly as they walked. He was enjoying walking with Delia. Just…being with another person, even if there was that niggling fear that he would hurt her someday.
(Sure, maybe the drone spots them and they don't see it so they're really surprised and scared when someone comes and brings them to the base?)
Delia just let her mind wander and go through the people she remembered traveling with, from young kids, to teenagers, and even some older people as well. Names of them passed through her mind and she matched them to the faces she remembered, Jared, Lillian, Ami, Tom, Zach, Alex.
(alright, sounds good)
A drone flew silently overhead, though neither of them spotted it. Jay started humming softly as they walked, adjusting his hat again to keep his pale hair from showing too brightly. Leo squirmed slightly, waking up and blinking sleepily.
"Mornin' Leo," She said softly when the puppy started to squirm, stopping her humming, "Do you want to walk for a little while? Or keep riding?" Her focus was on Leo and not the sky, so the silent drone didn't even draw her attention in the least.
Jay looked over, not noticing the drone either. Leo barked softly, squirming and wiggling in the sling. "I think he wants down so he can explore." Jay said with a soft laugh.
She smiled and nodded, slowing to a stop before letting her crutches lean against her sides while she picked the puppy up and carefully set him down on the ground. "Stay close buddy," She said before getting her crutches back into place and starting to walk again.
