Aster sighed softly. "Yes, well. There are more important things that needed to be dealt with." He replied curtly. "Now come along." He started walking.
Aster sighed softly. "Yes, well. There are more important things that needed to be dealt with." He replied curtly. "Now come along." He started walking.
Charlotte scowled. "Well," she muttered indignantly.
Aster kept walking. "Don't get mad that you are less important to me than my king and kingdom."
Charlotte rolled her eyes. "I'll get angry about whatever I please, thanks."
Aster sighed softly. "You do that." He replied, and led her over to where Quinn and the other guards were waiting to leave.
Charlotte crossed her arms, tapping her fingers against one of them.
Quinn looked up. There were shadows under his eyes, and he looked almost as if…as if he'd been crying. Though it wasn't obvious. It just sort of looked like it, and could easily have been something else.
Aster bit his lip. "Ready to go?" He asked.
Charlotte nodded quickly, glancing over at Quinn. He looked… tired, maybe? She brushed the thought aside. He never seemed to be alright.
Quinn nodded. "Yeah." He said, taking a deep breath. "We're taking horses?"
Aster nodded, then looked at Charlotte. "You can ride, right?"
Charlotte looked to the side uncomfortably. "I, er… not really."
Aster sighed. "Never mind the horses, then. We'll take a carriage."
One of the other guards went to get the carriage.
Quinn was silent.
Charlotte started tapping her fingers again to relieve nervous energy. After a moment, she turned to Quinn. "Are you - " she immediately thought better of it, and turned back away as though she hadn't said anything.
Quinn raised an eyebrow. "Am I what?" He asked, looking over at her.
Aster was silent, not butting into the conversation.
"Nothing. It was a stupid question," she replied tightly.
"… okay." Quinn replied slowly.
Aster sighed.
Charlotte went over to lean against the wall, still tapping her foot. How long does it take to move a carriage? She managed to not say out loud.
After a few minutes, the guard came back with the carriage.
Quinn got in without a word, sitting down and tucking his knees to his chest.
Aster sighed softly, and swung aboard a horse.
Charlotte slid into the opposite side of the carriage from Quinn, and immediately turned to look out the window.
Quinn was silent as the carriage rolled into motion.
Aster rode near them.
"Where are we going, exactly?" Charlotte asked quietly.
"Out of the palace grounds. Into Wonderland, to find you a way home." Quinn replied with a slight lilt. Instead of his crown, he wore a simple gold circlet around his head. His crimson eyes were dull.
"Well, yes, I know that, but - nevermind," she shook her head and turned back to the window.
"I can't answer questions that you don't finish." Quinn said quietly, leaning his head against the window.
"Well, I don't particularly feel like bothering you at the moment," Charlotte answered.
He raised an eyebrow slightly. "I don't mind." He replied. Anything is better than my own thoughts right now…
