@ElderGod-Icefire

I've mainly been doing research on… everything, tbh. I don't like not knowing things and it feels like there's so much I don't know about this. What complicates things is that my parents can see every website I visit, so a lot of more explicitly witchy websites that could have good info, I can't visit bc my parents would see and flip their lids. So research is hard

@ElderGod-Icefire

I've done youtube. Incognito doesn't work because my parents use Circle, which monitors what websites the computer is accessing. Incognito doesn't block Circle from access

I know you can fix candles that don't burn evenly and leave a bunch of wax on the side, but if I don't am I going to burn my house down or will it be fine?

@The-Magician group

Okay so I just bought another tarot deck because MY GOD was it calling my name— but after reading through the cards I found something interesting.
The High Priest.
Now is it just me who has never seen The High Priest, always The High Priestess?

@The-Magician group

I also find it interesting how the High Priestess basically represents intuition, mystery and stillness, while the High Priest can is summed up as representing instability

@The-Magician group

Upright—
“The High Priest card symbolises a wise and capable advisor. It is associated with comfort and forgiveness, the power of the conscious mind and the influence of established faith. This card could represent a father or lover, but it could also represent a teacher or man of authority and rules to get along by. The High Priest represents mercy, kindness, humility, lenience and compassion. Advice being offered. The High Priest card has a strong male connection, but is more indicative of spiritual wisdom than material matters.”

Reverse—
“Beware of bad advice. Confusion and bewilderment. It can convey the over-kindness and generosity to the point of foolishness. Vulnerability and susceptibility. Impotence. Disorderly conduct and a crisis of faith. It can be perceived in a more positive light, indicating the querent’s need to make up their own rules rather than blindly follow what has gone before.”

damn and here I thought I was supposed to do a reading in order for the cards to call me out like that-

@ElderGod-Icefire

Hmm I got a question for y'all: does the repitition of the number 3 mean anything specific? Because I've been noticing a lot of groups of three lately, especially when going on walks, and was just wondering what that means? Most of my research has been inconclusive, so?

I think its supposed to be either lucky or unlucky, depending on how you view it. the number three tends to be a good and powerful number in pagan circles, though a lot of Christians and adjacent religions believe it to be a malevolent number relating to something like the devil

@berlioz

In most celtic beliefs it's a really good number, represents unity in all things and spirituality in general. Could also refer the the triple goddess, Brigid. At least when it comes to the Gaelic pantheon. Google hints that it might be a "wake up to the spiritual reality" type of sign.

@berlioz

It's May Eve! Bealtaine's tomorrow!

Some fun facts~

-Bealtaine is the ritual start of summer acknowledged by Irish and other Gaelic cultures.

-Bealtaine is a fire festival, a holy celebration of the sun and the season

-Bealtaine is also called May Day and in Catholicism is the time for devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Some Irish traditions/superstitions include~

-First one to the well tomorrow morning gets good luck for the rest of the year!

-Before the sun rises, go out and wash your face with the dew. The dew on Bealtaine morning is like holy water, it'll also provide good luck and keep you from getting sunburned throughout the year!

-Don't talk to strangers or give out money on Bealtaine (this is contextually odd since the old Irish were typically very liberal with their money and social interactions). Don't borrow and don't ask to borrow anything from your neighbors.

-Bless your cows! If you bless them on Bealtaine, they'll make good butter and plenty of milk the rest of the year!

-Spiritual activity is at a high right now. Protect yourself against ill-motivated spirits with yellow flowers above your door, rowan branch outside your kitchen (or kitchen door if you have one) and juniper.

-Keep the kids busy by having them find yellow flowers and replant them around the house. They act as wards and bring good luck :)

-Fire on Bealtaine is holy. The charcoal, the smoke, the ashes, the flames, every aspect is special and are used for protection and other spells after Bealtaine.

-Don't bring hawthorn flowers into the house, they'll bring misfortune.

-A wreath of yellow flowers will bring good luck to all who pass under it.

-Dancing around a May pole and singing songs was not uncommon.

Beannachtaí Bealtaine oraibh!

@berlioz

It says

  1. Deirtear nach ceart blátha na sceiche gile a thabhairt isteach sa teach, [mar] go dtugann siad an mí-ádh isteach leo.

Which translates from Irish to

  1. It is said that hawthorn flowers should not be brought into the house, [because] they bring misfortune with them.

This particular superstition was recorded from Co. Mayo in Ireland, which is on the north-west coast.

@The-Magician group

Ah never mind! Sorry, I was confused between the tree itself and the flowers.
Yeah no, I had completely forgotten that the flowers are said to invite illness and death, while the actual tree symbolises love and protection

@berlioz

Yeee :)
It's interesting that the two features of the same tree represent such different themes. I wonder what divides them.

@Pickles group

Me, actually writing in my book of shadows? probably less likely than you think, but currently happening I've been in a rut and unable to do literally anything but pretend to pay attention to people and watch youtube for a long time, we love mental illness lmao

@berlioz

Sike May Eve is tomorrow lol
sometimes the best you can do is next to nothing and that's ok for a period. Give yourself time
