Those are all things that are a witch’s/pagan’s personal preferences when it comes to their religion. Tarot cards help us evaluate a situation, alters are usually used to worship certain deities that a person has chosen to worship or work with, herbs and candles are often used for correspondences to different meanings in spells

Not… what they were talking about….
So… are the gods just like pick and choose? And what are the gods/goddesses' names?

haha sorry, I didn't read back :)
I need help… I don't know anything about being pagan…
we kinda got that lmao, give us solid questions and we'll do our best to answer them
Why are Tarot cards important? Why are altars important? Same for herbs and candles
tarot cards are only important if you believe they are. same for most things on this list. pagans and witches specializing in divination might err towards tarot, alongside palm readings, crystal balls, scrying mirrors(i think?) and pendulums. all it really is is a way to get basically an unbiased(sometimes) second opinion on what's happening in your life or hints on the future
altars are, for some of us, super important. others not so much. i kind of float in the middle. they're a place to do spellwork, pray, worship, whatever you want them to be. i keep pretty rocks and all of my tools at my altar, which is basically just a burn plate with a sun and moon on it sitting on a shelf and covered in rocks.
herbs and candles can be used for spells or for general practice. each her has uses, sage(ha ha its me) for cleansing, and a lot of things. i'm just not super well versed on them, memory wise lmao. candles are also good for cleansing, spellwork, and their colors can have different meanings and uses if that's how you vibe. i just like scented candles, especially vanilla. doubles for cleansing my room and for making it smell nice
So… are the gods just like pick and choose? And what are the gods/goddesses' names?
No, not really, but kind of? Like, Greek, Norse…
There are lots of deities. Too many to name.
behead them. if they die, they're human. if the dull ass blade you used doesn't get all the way through, they must be a witch
bRUH lmao
is that not the logic. like the pin one, where they stuck a bunch of pins in their skin and were either like 'if you bleed youre a witch' or 'if you don't bleed while we stick tiny needles and leave them in your skin then fuck man ig you're a witch' or whatever. or tying their hands and feet and throwing them into the water and saying if they drown they're human but if they float they're a witch. i could go on. i really could
I was responding to this :)
So… which ones would you recommend? Sorry if that's not that works, I'm still new to this..

Hoo boy…. gods are complicated. Personally, I don’t deal with them since I’m a Christian witch…

This one's my favorite
Nabbing the Elusive Imp
One of the most devious ways to foil witches is to catch them with their familiars, the imps in animal form who do their nefarious [wicked] bidding. Many witch hunters believed thee the imps could not go for more than 24 hours without being suckled by their master or mistress. Therefore, when you have a suspect in prison, drill a peephole in the cell door and keep a close watch. If you see a rat, mouse or beetle in the cell, you've nabbed an imp. Beware of even the most improbable animals. In 1645, an Englishman named John Bysack confessed that for the last 20 years, he had regularly suckled imps in the form of snails.
Ah yes, let me go suckle my imp
So… which ones would you recommend? Sorry if that's not that works, I'm still new to this..
None. Not if you're just starting.

Usually it seems the gods/goddesses pick the person, not the other way around

Wait… how does that even work???
So… are the gods just like pick and choose? And what are the gods/goddesses' names?
uh. no and no
all pagans are different. some worship different pantheons, some worship one or two, some don't worship any. i, personally, am more in tune with the greek pantheon, but owen is more into celtic and norse i think, though i don't know if they've quite landed on one.
usually, you'll know when you've found your patron. you'll receive signs, in dreams or the waking world, or just feel some sort of connection. your patron can pick you, and you can reach out to request patronage. it really all just depends
I mean, I'm Wiccan, and I don't work with any gods/deities other than The God and The Goddess. I believe in the others, but I don't directly work with them.
you don't have to work with the gods in your work. I personally don't, I stick to cleansing and simple spells and sigils because it's what I'm comfortable with. You should respect them tho because well, they're gods. and you can like,, send them gifts if you want to work with them but they're the ones who choose to work with you ultimately please correct me if I'm wrong tho, I'm still pretty inexperienced
-is even more confused-
that seems to be a pretty common belief. that others exist, but aren't yours to work with.
which god and goddess though? because all the research i've done has basically made it impossible for me to tell without specification. and also i'm a curious bitch. the horned god? hecate? are they simply general terms?
DIP, I think you have a lot of personal research to do.
I'm sure we'd all be willing to share any reliable resources we have.
It's also possible to work with other being like I do with the Good Neighbors, but if you're a beginner, I don't recommend working with them. But the way I started out, was just setting out offerings, no asking for anything.

if you want like, super in depth explanations and things, just pm me. that way i'm not clogging the chat with five paragraphs of text lmao

dhfhdgfdg definitely don't try out with them unless you're practiced lmao

Celtic/Irish for me :)
I'm still learning about the pantheon, but I feel pretty close to it.
Thanks for understanding! I hope I didn't make anyone cringe at my wording
