Derlik shifted a bit, looking at Nik. He let out a soft breath.
"Hey," he said quietly. "I'm sorry about what I did. It⦠It was overboard."
Derlik shifted a bit, looking at Nik. He let out a soft breath.
"Hey," he said quietly. "I'm sorry about what I did. It⦠It was overboard."
Nik looked up at him, mouth tightening a little bit. "Yeah, no shit." he snapped, curling into himself a little as if afraid Derlik would hurt him again.
Derlik was half tempted to actually hit him again. But no, he wanted Smoke to feel safe around him. He let out a sigh, turning away.
Nik was silent. Had Derlik expected him to just accept the apology after the god had beaten him? No fucking way. Smoke was quiet.
Derlik started rubbing Smoke's head again gently, purposely not looking at Nik.
Smoke leaned into the touch, purring quietly.
Derlik gave a faint smile. He sighed softly again. Twili was still shaking, but she softly put her hand on Nik.
(gtg soon sorry. Also won't be very active for the next few days, going to my grandparents house)
Nik looked over at her. Smoke purred softly.
Twili bit her lip a little, writing shakenly.
"I'm so sorry." Derlik glanced over, then reached both hands up to scratch Smoke's head.
Nik shrugged. "It's not your fault." He replied softly. Smoke mewed, leaning into the touch.
Twili frowned a bit, but nodded a bit. She didn't look at Derlik, still shaken. She'd obviously experienced something similar before. Derlik smiled softly, a complete one eighty from how he was with Nik.
Nik closed his eyes quietly, swallowing. Smoke mewed, purring and leaning into Derlik's touch.
Derlik held Smoke close, glad things had calmed down for the cat.
Smoke leaned into Derlik, still purring softly.
Derlik let out a soft sigh.
"Let's go back," he finally said.
Smoke looked up at him. "What about Nik?"
"Him too. You two need to eat, after all." Derlik stood, Smoke in his arms.
Smoke blinked, and nodded a little bit. "Okay." He replied.
Derlik motioned for Nik to stand up.
"Let's go then."
Nik looked up, standing. He didn't speak, though.
Twili stood as well, but with a look from Derlik winced back, she gave Nik one last apologetic look, then left. Derlik started back to his clearing, rubbing Smoke's back and expecting Nik to follow.
Nik was silent, quietly following Derlik, his arms tucked around his body.
Derlik walked up to the boulder, seeing Smoke down.
"Are you allergic to anything?" He asked, turning to Nik.
Nik shook his head a little. "No." Smoke shifted a little bit.
"Good. I'm going to be making omelettes." A matter of fact, not a question.
Nik nodded a little bit, not otherwise responding.
"Now, you two stay here," Derlik instructed, already heading for the trees.
"Harmony, where are the eggs?! Damnit, I told you to get them!" He'd already disappeared into the trees, but could be clearly heard.
Nik was silent, glancing over at Smoke for a moment and wondering why his cat got such better treatment than he had.
Derlik continued to yell for a bit longer, eventually coming back with three bowls in hand. He sat down next to Smoke, setting a bowl down for Nik.
Nik took the bowl quietly, looking down at the ground. Smoke reached for a bowl happily.
