"I, um," Cicada was a little thrown off by his gentle movements. Her mind flashed when Phoenix tipped her chin up, but the words after kept her from repeating the same mistake she had just made. She took a deep breath her eyes closed, "I can do this thing. With, with fire. And I think. I think," she took a shaky breath, "I think I lost control and burned them in the process."
Nodding a bit, he pulled away from her so he could go check on them. "Then we need to take them to a hospital. I'm no good with burns." Phoenix muttered, checking their pulses. "Are you okay? Did they hurt you, in any way?"
"I, I'm fine," Cicada whispered stepping away from Phoenix. She looked at the two boys biting her lip and holding her hands close to her to keep him from seeing the blisters forming on her palms and fingertips from her own fire. She could maybe tell that a bruise was forming on her wrist. Cada didn't want Phoenix to worry more than he already was, "No, they didn't hurt me. At least, I don't think they did. And, and yeah let's take them. Can you drive?"
"Yeah, I can drive. I don't think your emotionally stable to drive anyways." Phoenix mumbled, not trying to be rude. He was just stating his concerns. "Are we going to carry them, or do you want me to drive my car down here?" He asked her softly, as he stood back up. They still had a pulse, so that was good. "I don't want to leave you here, but logic says I drive my car down here."
"I can stay here by myself," Cicada told him rubbing her arm slightly. She really wasn't sure if she could, but she would put a brave face on for Phoenix. She couldn't force him to carry them, this was her mess and asking him here already felt like too much, "You can go get your car. I'll, I'll keep them alive as much I can."
Brushing himself off, he walked up to her with a frown. It was so odd how calm he was as he approached her. "You're sure? I don't want to leave you, if you don't want me to. We can figure out something else, if you need." Phoenix told her, holding a hand out to her. "As soon as we get this all figured out, we can just sit down. You can talk to me, if you want, or just… let me comfort you."
Cicada hesitantly took his hand. Her hand had a few blisters on it, but she pushed down the pain from the contact, "I, I would like that. The talking, comforting part. But really. I'll be fine here by myself. I'm, I'm a bit calmer now," Cicada tried to give him a reassuring smile even if her cheeks had tinted red. She knew he was probably worried. She was still surprised at how calm he was taking it.
Phoenix nodded softly as he stepped up closer to her. Very gently, he held the edge of her chin in between thumb and index finger. "Then we'll do that. I'll get my car, and we can head to the hospital. Just stay right here, and I'll be back." He whispered, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead before pulling back. "Two minutes at most." With that said, he briskly walked off to go get his car.
Cicada hadn't been expecting any of that and normally that was a problem. The two boys were a prime example as to why. But Phoenix had been so gentle and soft that it hadn't affected her instead of leaving her a bit of a mess. Her hand went to her forward as her cheeks turned redder as she just let it linger before forcing it down and to her side. She just had to wait for Phoenix, maybe she could wrap her hands with the spare bandages she had. Yeah, that sounded like a great idea.
As quickly as he could, Phoenix made his way to his car. He kept all focus on the one simple task. Once he had gotten to the car, he ducked in he skipped buckling up before starting the car. It took him less then a minute to drive back over to where Cicada was waiting, as he was trying to be as quick as possible. As soon as he had pulled up, he popped his door open for him to get out.
Cicada spotted Phoenix. Her hands and fingers were now wrapped up in loose bandages to help prevent further injury. She lifted up one of the boys, still unconscious, still alive, and began to make her way over to where Phoenix was. No one was near so it was fine, it should be fine. Phoenix could help with the other guy, "Can, can you get the other guy?"
"I can get them both. You don't have to do this, Cicada." Phoenix told her softly, pulling the back door open. "You can get settled in the front, I can deal with this. I don't mind." Holding his arms out, he was offering to take him from her.
"I," Cicada swallowed keeping the guy close to her. He was a lot bigger than she was, but she wasn't overly struggling to move him around. She sighed, "It's my fault they're like this. I want to help out where and when I can. So, can you please grab the other one? I, I have this one handled."
Sighing softly, he nodded just a bit as he turned around to go get the other one. "I understand the feeling… I just hate to see you like this." Phoenix whispered, gathering the other guy before leading his body to the car. "But if you need to do this, I won't try and argue." With that said, he waited for her to get the one settled.
Cicada bit her lip as she faintly heard what he had said. She put the first dude comfortably in the back seat before going around the passenger door. She was taking deep breaths to keep herself from freaking out. What would happen when they got to the hospital? Would the two remember it was her that did it? This was supposed to be a fresh start, now it was anything but.
Once he had gotten them both settled, he shut the back door before ducking in to the driver's seat. "You doing alright, Cicada?" Phoenix asked softly, trying to remember she didn't like being touched. It was so hard not offering a comforting touch. That was just in his nature. "Is there anything I can do to help you relax?"
Cicada snapped out of her thoughts hearing Phoenix. She was holding herself slightly and buckled up in the seat, "Um, just. Just talk to me. I need a distraction. And, and at the hospital can, can you take them in? I would but…" her voice trailed off before she whispered, "But I'm worried I might panic or do something stupid if the doctors start asking questions."
He nodded a bit, knowing exactly what she meant. "Sure thing, whatever you need." Phoenix hummed, buckling up before starting to drive. "What do you want to talk about? Because I don't want to pick something bad, and set you off." He asked slowly, trying to wait awhile before going back to normal. He didn't want to stress her out.
"Tell me about your," Cicada had to think for a moment. What wouldn't set her off at this moment and give Phoenix enough to talk about? She bit her lips slightly before saying, "Tell me some stupid story of yours. It can be anything really."
"Stupid story?" Phoenix asked softly, spacing for a moment. "Oh, yeah… uh…" Trying to think and drive, that was quite the challenge. What story did he have, that didn't involve someone getting vitally injured? "Well, back when I was younger, we had this tree in my backyard. It was one of the really big ones… I don't know what it was called. But it was a good climbing tree."
Cicada nodded a little. She was rubbing her arms trying not to look into the backseat where the two were. She tried to curl up a little into the seat as she hummed, "Okay."
"Up in the tree, my dad built a fort for me and my sister. Oddly enough, we didn't fight over it. She tended to let me use it, as she would much rather be with her friends." Phoenix explained, pausing to remember the details better. "Anyways, one day after school, I carried my back pack up into the tree house with me. It was the usual daily routine. I did my homework up in the tree house, as soon as I got home. My mom would bring me a snack, and all that. I think I was in sixth grade at the time, and I was struggling on some English homework. After an hour, I got frustrated, and climbed down the tree to go take a break. I went inside, helped mom make dinner. Fun stuff like that.
"Eventually, I had to head back, so I made myself climb back up the tree and sit down to finish it. The thing was, someone had finished it for me. Reading over the work, every blank had been filled in. There was some letter on top of it, but of course it didn't have a name. I still have no clue who did it… none at all."
"Huh, strange," Cicada responded to his story. It wasn't like the type he thought he would tell, but she wasn't going to complain as she was starting to calm down. She gave him a slight smile as she contemplated, "Maybe your sister did it? Or some stranger just living in the tree."
"I wondered, but Savanna refused to admit it if she did… I tried not to let it bother me. Of course, it still does." Phoenix mumbled, noting that it shouldn't take much longer to get to the hospital. "We didn't have a fenced off yard. Some kids in my grade also lived in that neighborhood. I don't know if they would help or not."
"Huh, I still think it was your sister," Cicada responded after a moment. She closed her eyes for a moment, before opening them again, "Otherwise that is a little creepy that your homework just got done with magic. Are we close?"
