"Mm… everyone handles it differently." Samul hummed some, an arm looping around Larkin as they ate, his Mama speaking the most.
"Mm… everyone handles it differently." Samul hummed some, an arm looping around Larkin as they ate, his Mama speaking the most.
"Yeah, I suppose. I hardly remember what my own mother looked like." Larkin sighed and kept eating. "Like I've repressed all my memories of her."
Samul's Mama slowly set her fork down, nodding.
"Well, we can be your Mothers, now," she said, reaching over to pat Larkin's hand. "You're part of the family."
Larkin smiled a bit and flushed. "T-Thank you, miss. It… it really means a lot." He seemed nervous, but happy as well.
Mama gave Larkin's hand a gentle squeeze, Samul leaning over to kiss Larkin's cheek lightly.
"Of course, dearie," the woman said softly.
Larkin smiled gently and nodded before he kept eating. He soon finished his dinner and brought his plate to the sink to wash up.
Samul moved to bring his plate as well, smiling some.
"How are you doing, did you get enough?"
"Yeah, I think so. And I'm alright. You?" Larkin kissed Samul's cheek softly and hugged him.
"Yeah, I'm okay." Samul kissed Larkin back, hugging him. "Mm…"
"What time is it?" He asked softly, looking up at Samul.
"It's just past seven," Samul said, humming some. He held his arm around Samul, smiling.
"Mm… what should we do until bedtime?" He asked softly.
"I don't know," Samul admitted. "Shall we find something to do with Mama and Mom?"
"Yeah, sure." Larkin took Samul's hand with a soft smile so he could walk with him.
Samul led Larkin back to the living room, where Mama was braiding Vanessa's hair.
Larkin followed compliantly, sitting down on the couch with Samul. "How goes it?"
Mama looked up, smiling some.
"Much better, now that you boys are here. It's been too long since you've visited."
Larkin smiled gently. "It has been, yeah. It's good to see you guys again too. I'm sure we'd be over all the time if it was a bit closer." He laughed softly.
Mama chuckled some.
"I'm sure as well. Hopefully we'll be able to move into a closer, better house eventually."
"Yeah, maybe. I'm not sure we can afford to move any time soon." Larkin laughed weakly.
"Yes, that's completely understandable." Mama nodded, laughing weakly herself.
"We all make it work," Samul said, kissing Larkin's cheek.
"Mhmm. It gets kinda hard this time of month because I have to eat more than usual, and pretty much only meat…" Larkin sighed softly. "Not exactly cheap."
"We'll send the things we can to help out," Mama said. "We know it isn't easy, and we want to support you too. You boys do so much for us already."
Larkin smiled weakly and nodded. "You really don't have to, ma'am… we manage okay despite it."
"Nonesense. We can afford to send over some candied bacon every month." Mama winked, smiling.
